What's great about it: Good power Back Up
What's not so great: Wish they could make this quality in a slimmer lighter version
It does the Job. I live in South Florida and this time of year we have regular outages. This unit works great in keeping full power to my 27" iMac, 27" Thunderbolt display, and Dell 17" display until the generator comes on which is usually about 1 minute after an outage. If you have computer equipment this is a must have.

What's great about it: Works, efficient, quiet!!
What's not so great: Little expensive and large!
I had an older APC UPS that the battery just died after 5 years which was awesome so instead of getting a replacement battery, I bought this model for $79.99 on sale.
I could not be happier and it supplies protection to all of my equipment and has power savings plugs as well.
Keep up the good work APC!

What's great about it: Good protection.
What's not so great: Don't know.
I've been using APC for years. This unit is hooked up to my TV and coax cable coming from my "roof top' antenna. I have never had a problem with protection for my equipment.

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: did not work and APC did not seem to care
I bought this item Feb 6, 2011. I hooked it up but did not install the powerchute software. The backup unit would randomly shut the computer down. I installed the powerchute 2.1.1 software. When I exectued the self test it crashed the computer causing disk coruption. It took several hours to get the computer operating properly. I downloaded powerchute 3.0 for windows 7 and tried the self test. Once again the computer crashed. After I finally got the computer working again I sent a message to APC support. It has been a week with no response. I have 4 other APC units that are working great. I will not buy another. If support does not care enough to acknowledge my message requesting help, then I will move on to another product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: I wouldn't know since it didn't work at all.
What's not so great: Didn't work and appallingly poor customer service
I've had a number of other products from APC and they've worked fine.
Unfortunately for some reason, nothing that is plugged into the power outlets of this unit will work.
I contacted customer support and they asked for more information even though I had sent most of it before. I sent them them what they requested. I then kept getting messages saying that if they didn't hear from me in 21 days, they would assume that there wasn't a problem anymore. I sent the same information 3 more times and kept getting the same message. On the third time, I said I would be returning it which I will do this week since the only response I got was the same message about the 21 days.
Unfortunately for some reason, nothing that is plugged into the power outlets of this unit will work.

As to UPS for your valuable assets, APC devices are the best. I wish the price would be more affordable and the software supplied with the unit would include the Windows server version but it can be downloaded from the web site. I have tried other vendors but was forced to abandon their UPS due to failures and low battery life. APC is still #1.

What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: Master control doesn't work well
Seems to be working well, power went off once and the battery power kicked in just as it was supposed to. Only issue is the Master Controlled Outlets don't ever seem to turn off, even after adjusting the sensativaty.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Long battery life for an introductory level battery backup and they are reliable
What's not so great: A little steep on price if you're truly looking for an introductory UPS, but you're getting your moneys worth.
APC has been a long standing leader in battery backup manufacturing for quite some time now. This is a great battery backup for your average PC setup.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I spend a lot of time selling at auctions and would hate to lose all of my work at the last minute. This happened to me one time.....NEVER AGAIN!!!

What's great about it: quick setup; everything clearly marked
What's not so great: USB link is intermittant at best; gives a no connection window seveal times a day.
I couldn't give the UPS all 5 stars as I haven't had it long enough. We'll see how it does during hurricane season, which starts in 10 days. This is the 3rd unit I;ve bought; I keep putting them into new apps. In the 6+ years I've had them, not 1 failure.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Clean set up. I am replacing and older APC UPS that simply was at the end of it's life. I hope this one holds ups (get it) as well as the old one.

Purchased this unit a couple of days ago. Connected my 24" iMac to it.
The unit comes with a USB cable to connect the computer to the UPS. The controls show up under System Preferences - Energy Saver . I am running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. No need to install the PowerChute software from APC.
Gave this unit over 24 hours to fully charge up, then I conducted some tests. With a 24" iMac and an external Hard drive connected this APC UPS was able to keep system running for about 30 minutes.
The UPS status can be set to show up in the Menu bar at the top of the screen. It can display just an icon, or % battery, or time remaining.
Under System Preferences - Energy Saver, you can setup shutdown options for the computer. In my test I set my iMac to shut itself down when 4 minutes battery time were remaining. It worked very well, my iMac took about 10 seconds to shutdown automatically. You can also have the system shutdown after it has been on battery for x minutes, or shutdown when there is x% battery life remaining.
So far I am happy with it. I suppose I could have saved a few bucks and went with the slightly cheaper model. I was surprised that it kept my system running for so long.

My comment only pertains to the directions as I just purchased tonight - with high expectations per other reivews.
I open the box and sift through the various foreign language pages and open the English page.
Small black font on dark gray shading - I had to put them under a bright desklight to read them.
First impression is - what are they thinking, could this be any less consumer friendly?
Hope their product people are better than their directions staff.

What's great about it: Seamless, self-installs!
What's not so great: No downsides that I can see
Seems to be a great product; of course, I cannot comment on its effectiveness in the event of a power outage as I haven't experienced one since installing it. However, when connecting it up to a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the genius and elegance of Mac OS X becomes apparent. Without having to install any drivers, the Mac instantly detects the presence of a UPS, and places a menu item for it in the menu bar at top right, and the System Preferences panel configures itself so that all settings for the UPS can be controlled easily from the System Prefs panel. What more could you ask? Maybe if it made a nice half-caf decaf latte with no whipped and shaved chocolate perhaps?

What's great about it: It hasn't given problems so far.
What's not so great: None that I can think of at the moment.
I got this one after my last UPS had given up (had my previous model for six years without any problems).
So far, this new one hasn't given any problems or broken down at all.
The ten outlets gives freedom to provide power protection to more devices than my last UPS.
It may seem like a lot of money for something that protects power but the battery inside helps quite a bit when the power is off for more than a flash of a second. Especially if you're working on anything important and don't want to loose it I can assure you.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Will handle brief overload required by CRT monitor startup
What's not so great: beeps when AC power is off - no switch to kill beeper
I have used APC supplies for many years. I switch on both the computer and CRT monitor together using a plug strip, so the battery backup must be able to handle the initial surge as the CRT monitor starts up. The APC battery backup can handle this when the AC line is powered; surprisingly some other brands cannot. APC now offers replacement batteries for sale, so you don't need to trash the battery backup when the battery wears out. The batteries generally last three to five years
