What's great about it: Fast, lots of memory, Warcraft runs great on it
What's not so great: Severe problems with video locking up
Was very excited about this purchase but somewhat hesitant with using Vista from everything I've heard. Right out of the box after about an hour of operation started having problems with the video just going away. Three calls to HP to no avail. Updated drivers, no joy. Installed SP1, still have issues. Have to reboot the computer about every hour. The funny thing is when I'm playing WOW, it works like a champ, no issues. So, maybe it's VISTA not working well with the video card. Tried replacing the power supply, couldn't get the old one out, had to put everything back together. Bringing this back to Best Buy tomorrow. Willing to pay a little more for less headaches.
It's too bad, but I've done more than my share to get this thing to work. Maybe it's time for a Mac.

What's great about it: Great-looking system
What's not so great: Wont run newer games like Hellgate London or Crysis
Bought this system with the promise of being able to run newer games without any slow down. Noticed at the character selection screen on Hellgate London, visuals were very stop and go. Had to turn the settings down to the minimum standard to run the game, but even then, whenever you have multiple enemies or explosions on screen the game will freeze for a few seconds, then by that time, you're dead. The media center applications look great in HD. Are quite a few software issues because of vista. Finding the required codecs that work well with vista was a tremendous pain. The machine is better suited as a family computer. If you are buying a gaming system go for the Dell XPS or even the Gateway with Blueray.

What's great about it: Hard Drive Space and RAM are decent
What's not so great: Graphics Card
Having a good portion of a TB for hard drive space, and 3 GB of RAM, is almost a necessity for heavy computer usage. This one is prepared to handle most applications, but it's Achilles Heel is it's standard graphics card. It seems like having that much RAM without a better graphics card is pointless for gaming, but I would recommend this computer for almost every other purpose.

What's great about it: Great processor and speed
What's not so great: Graphics card and wireless components
I had purchased this desktop for myself and it has seemed to impress me since I've purchased it. I had to return the first model because during the BIOS it wouldn't recognize the monitor but since then it has lightning fast speed. I play Unreal Tournament 3 and Bioshock with ease, though it is on the lowest settings for them. Upgrading the Graphics card to a minimal of Geforce 8600 changes this dramatically. I did have to replace the mouse and keyboard with my old set because they were not responding well with my online games. (world of warcraft, Unreal 3)
Aside from those small things, this product is quite amazing.
I would recommend it to anyone and it is cheap.

What's great about it: Lightning fast, easily plays demanding games, tv tuner is awesome
What's not so great: 300 watt power supply
I did a performance test, and this pc can still run Guildwars and Diablo 2 like a dream with 60+ other windows open at the same time! Amazing. It could use a Graphcis card upgrade and a new power supply, but besides that it's the perfect computer: Nice price. Amazing quality.
Even more outstanding is that the 3GB of RAM handles everything you can throw at it. It's even upgradeable to handle 8GB of RAM, enough to tackle anything thrown at it within the next 10 years or so.
So far no Vista problems, hopefully all future issues can be resolved by Microsoft.

What's great about it: Storage capacity, speed, display
What's not so great: Vista - incompatability with existing hardware & software
This is a workhorse of a machine, with a huge amount of storage capacity and excellent speed. The monitor is gorgeous and just looks impressive in the home office.
The problem with this system (and many these days unfortunately), is Windos Vista. It is just a bear to get it to integrate with some existing hardware and software.
Out of the box, the machine was fairly easy to set up and run. The display is impressive and it looks great in the home office. It's very quiet, almost a whisper. I was really excited about getting the machine running and testing out its speed with some of my games and programs.
But then the roadblocks started. Vista recognized my scanner, printer, wacom tablet, and speakers and notified me of driver/connectivity problems with each of them. Several hours have been spent researching compatability and connectivity, with only my scanner benefiting from a confirmed operation.
I also have had problems getting Vista to read Excel and Word documents I copied from my old machine (which ran on XP).
The manual tells you how you can set up a parallel operating system on the hard drives (and there's plenty of space), so I spent a few hours trying to configure the machine and download Windows XP. So far, no luck.
Vista is pretty. It's slick looking. But it's a Dr. Frankenstein hack-job to get it to work with some things.

What's great about it: Great buy, plenty of RAM, fast, very quiet
What's not so great: xp drivers not available from HP Support, only 300 watts
I just picked up this PC last night to replace my old one. But right out of the box, the wireless keyboard and mouse didn't work.
Also, I installed XP pro on the secondary drive (2 320GB hard drives) which was the main reason I got this system, but the drivers (WLAN, LAN, and 5 others) don't work with xp, and HP only has Vista drivers.
Now I'm thinking if I should return it alltogether. The store told me to bring it back to exchange for another one 'cause of the keyboard and mouse issue.
With all the features, it's a great buy. But for a PC this fast, it only makes sense to run 2 or even 3 Operating systems to get the most out of it and that's proving to be an issue for me.

What's great about it: When it is working it is nice....
What's not so great: Too many issues
I'm not really a fan of this computer. It looks nice and ran really well a few times, but I purchased the system two weeks ago and have now returned it for a third time. Tomorrow I plan on taking it back for the last time. Never before have I had so many issues with a computer. It is not worth the money, to me, for all the issues I have had with it. I have a degree in computers and the system itself has never run long enough for me to even install anything on it to screw it up. I do not recommend this unit for anyone.

What's great about it: Well-equipped and high performing
What's not so great: Connection docs to TV are weak
My intention was to get a complete home entertainment system which included an LCD HiDef TV; I bought the HP Q6600 and bought the Sony - BRAVIA 40 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV.
After fiddling with the analog cable TV box, trying out the HDMI and DVI outputs on the HP and Sony, I finally got the right combination resulting in a superb picture.
Vista does an excellent job with its Media Center. You can display full TV video, or have a small window to watch TV and use it's other apps. I imported my music library and it did an adequate, but not perfect job of displaying my titles. A few burps with the remote; required a reboot.
The HP Q6600 has the most bang for the buck that I could find; very fast, yet quiet too. A similarly equipped Dell would have cost at least $500 more.
I spent more on the Sony TV because it had the best display to me in it's category. It cost more, but I'm really glad I spent it.
I am extremely pleased with this combination. I had a lot of doubts prior to this purchase, however this combination far-exceeded my expectations...

What's great about it: Fast, quiet, inexpensive for the specs
What's not so great: os a little complex, wireless lan not needed
This was my first HP desktop i've ever bought. So far, I've only had one "problem". Vista is a little complex and takes time to adapt. The wireless lan is cool to have but not practical on a desktop computer. The price bestbuy is asking is a steal compared to other computers you could find at any other eletronic stores. Others have written in their reviews the power supply is not strong enough. True but when the time comes to upgrade that's the cheapest and easiest part to install. I like that fact it has a 8 channel audio card thats on-board to allow setup for a 7.1 surround sound for those who want. This computer has more reasons for anyone to buy it and less reasons not to buy it. Like the title says: Best desktop bestbuy offers

What's great about it: Quiet, fast, lots of memory and HD space
What's not so great: Only one bay, to many HP HD slots, no audio card
I bought the HP Quad Core two weeks ago. The keyboard is chinsy, but works. After upgrading from 3 GB of RAM and an X-Fi sound card, noticed the computer slowed significantly. Before the "upgrade", computer was incredibally fast. I wish HP would have included more of a power supply than 300 watts. Upgrade the power supply out of the box and delete all the HP included software. Haven't had any problems with VISTA and interface is pretty nice.

What's great about it: Best value for Quad Core processor
What's not so great: new windows operating system feels like a backslide from XP
the HP Pavillion Elite m9040n truly matches its name. The Q6600 Quad Core processor makes multi-tasking a dream operation. the 3GBRAM feels like light speed operating power!! TheVideo graphics card meets the demands of today's video gamer and upgrading the system proves to be a simple operation.
Plenty of storage space with additional space available with the personal media drive option. indeed, an HP Pavillion ELITE system. Thanks to HP and Bestbuy.

What's not so great: Only a 3.5 VISTA rating and only 300watt power supply
This computer replaced my five year old HP computer. My old one had VISTA Home Premium installed on it. The VISTA rating on it was a 3.6. I had a NVIDIA 7600GS video card in it, the VISTA rating on it was 5.9. This new computer with a NVIDIA 8400GS has only a VISTA 3.5 rating on the video card. Even though other aspects of the rating are well above my old computer, this model M9040N is a big disapointment. The wireless keyboard and mouse doesn't always respond well. With that and only a 300watt power supply Ihave made a mistake buying this model.

What's great about it: Super Fast, quiet,
This is the best pc that i ever bought! Before I had a Gateway Quad core pc which was not so great as i thought it would be for many reasons. First of all the Gateway Pc was very loud and compared to this Hp Quad core pc. I returned my Gatway and bought this pc and i could definatly notice the difference between the two pcs. This pc defintaly rocks and i would reccommend it to every one. The IR sensor also happend to work with my nintendo Wii system using the USB port. The HD tv Tuner is defintaly a must have for any one who enjoys watching true hd movies on there computer.
I love this PC.
Use all applications without any delay an opening and switching from one app. to another
