I bought the TV a few months ago and I am still amazed at how awesome all of my HD content looks on it. SD content looks pretty bad, but I'm sure that is true with all HDTV's. I wanted to wait longer for the price to come down, but now that i have it i am very happy with this purchase.
What's great about it: Amazing picture quality w proper hd source
What's not so great: expensive

Oh yeah! I just got this TV yesterday and I've been wanting this dream TV for a year now. This is the best choice of a TV I have ever made. The picture is amazing, even though I'm getting it calibrated. it's still in all its glory. amazing out of the box default settings. The simulated surround is incredible too! 1080p for blu ray and video games is any person's visual paradise!!! I'm one the luckiest people right now and you can be too if you got this set! so worth the money! I've always believed in Sony brands ad always will!
What's great about it: Amazing Picture, Sound, Color, Everything!!!
What's not so great: There is no con!!

Researched this and the Sharp Aquous for a long time. Reviews and critics said you pay more for the Sony name because quality and picture are equal. Looking at the two side-by-side, the Sony puts Sharp to shame. I purchased a PS3 to serve as a Blu-Ray player and the picture is ridiculously clear. It makes me wonder how I ever made it this long without the TV. Regular cable is pixelated though. The sound could be a little better but overall an awesome TV.

I'm not a supertech, but the Geeks fixed that. Have to agree that cable box experience has been beyond expectation. We live on HD channels only now. The picture detail blows me away, occasional blur is rare and I think a broadcast issue. On-screen selection for peripherals is easy. Just love this thing and glad to have stuck to Sony despite serious looks at other makes. The XBR generation is worth the price, which I thought was fair in October - it still is!

This is a wonderful TV. The 120Hz refresh rate does make a noticeable difference at times and does not seem unnatural. There is some motion blur at times but this is one of the consequences you get when buying an LCD. It is worth it in the end however. I really enjoy this TV, the black levels rival some of those that some of the high end plasma's have. If possible go with the xbr4 to save yourself $300. The extra warranty is not worth is.
What's great about it: 120HZ refresh rate, Good black levels, Excellent customaztion
What's not so great: Some motion blur, Very big

This was my worst purchase mistake, and I warn all potential buyers to stay away from the XBR5. The motion blur and lag were so horrible that it was literally unwatchable at times. Also, the black levels were not good; it was hard to see the details of black clothing or dark haired actresses. These problems perplexed me because I have a two year old Sony that shows virtually no motion blur or lag at all. I returned the XBR5 to the store and exchanged it for a Panasonic 46PZ85U, which solved all of my problems.

I have wanted to get an HDTV for some time now.
I have an older Sony XBR 36 inch CRT TV for comparison.
I expected the new KDL-46XBR4 would not look as good as the 36 inch XBR with SDTV due to its much higher resolution, but after 3 days of simultaneous comparison over/under, I found the XBR4 to be far superior in color, clarity and black levels compared to the CRT tuned for the best possible picture.
This was a pleasant surprise. I thought I would need HDTV, Blu-Ray or up-conversion to appreciate the capabilities of this XBR4. I was wrong.
I have the picture settings of the XBR4 set to about 50%, picture, color and brightness and it is brighter and much more clear than the CRT. Text displayed is flawless.
I have only 5 HD channels ranging from 480P to 1080I and they are fantastic on this set.
I am donating my 36’ XBR to charity.

I was very upset with this TV. Sure its bright and small enough to fit smaller pixels on the display so it can look clear on HD but Wow!! The lag is horrible, 120hz does not mean anything for fast actions games and movies. I returned this item and got a plasma samsung plasma instead.. I could not imagin this TV getting any bigger and people with the 52 inch must see insane amounts of lag seeing that the pixels are bigger..Same your self time, money, and have a peace of mind. Get a high end plasma for the same price.
What's great about it: Bright
What's not so great: Bad picture, Looks fake, not original

I just bought this tv yesterday and havn't had all the time in the world to play with it. But I did play games on my PS3 and 360 on it and they were amazing. I've never seen games look this amazing. I also hooked up my HD Direct tv to it and it looked good even on standard channels. The kicker is when I watched parts of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Michael Clayton on Blu-Ray movies the motion blur was horrible. I thought having 1080p and 120 Hz I could get away from that. If the characters on the screen were being still it was beautiful but when they moved around a lot it got ugly. I have a 42" Toshiba 720p Plasma that actually looks a lot better and has no blur. I am considering taking it back to the store if I can't get this problem fixed.

So I bring the tv home, hook it up & start watching They Live in blu-ray. Next thing I know I was in the movie! I
got sucked in the TV just like that movie starring John Ritter,(I forget the title). Roddy Piper punched me in the face. It was totally awesome! I just want to thank Sony for this amazing experience. I bought one of these tvs for each of the rooms in my house.

This tv is good but the colors on it are horrible. It looks like someone took a bunch of water color paint and mixed it all up and threw it on a TV. I've had 6 pixels burn out, and one speaker blow. There are a lot of hook ups so you can plug a lot of stuff into it, but the HDMI port broke in the TV I bought. Overall it could be a nice little TV if you take care of it.

We purchased this as an early Christmas gift and my only regret is that we didn't get it as an anniversary gift(that would have been in April and we could have been enjoying the phenomenal picture longer) It is one of the best purchases we have ever made. My husband won't make a major purchase until he thoroughly researches everything first. Consumer Reports is one of his bibles. We went to the store with the intention of getting a plasma based on the cons brought up by the CR study. After spending quite a bit of time in the store we had to disagree with CR. None of the cons that they mentioned were apparent in the store. We decided to take a chance and came away with the Sony. We have been delighted with it ever since. It was extremely easy to set up,the HD truly makes you feel like you are actually there. I would definitely recommend this set.

Recieved it as a present. Now it is definately the center of attention in our home. People with other big screen TVs have said they want to get something more like mine. My kids love the lifesize cartoons. Movies are theatre quality on the screen. Absolutly the best HD TV I saw and glad this is the one I got.

I really don’t want to be too repetitious in repeating what most have said about this TV. I will say that this TV is amazing though!! The picture quality is insane while watching channels in HD. Watching normal channels are pretty good as well. I purchased the PS3 for both the gaming and the Blu ray. Watching Blu ray movies are incredible. I do have my regular DVD player hooked up to this TV and it does really well with this set up.
Now, as far as the PS3 for the Blu ray, if you are not a hardcore gamer do not buy this for Blu Ray movies. Get a regular Blu ray player. You have to use that game controller to navigate through the movie. It’s not that big of a deal to me but I can see some people not liking that. Also, you obviously will need an HDMI cable along with an HDMI ready cable box to take advantage of what this TV has to offer. DO NOT spend the $70 plus dollars on an HDMI cable for the TV. The cable companies will give you a 6”cable with the box! You will need one for the additional components (Blu ray player, PS3..) but don’t waste your money on additional cables. Anyhow, I highly recommend this TV. The price is a bit high but well worth every dollar!!
What's great about it: Just about everything except for the....

I've had this beauty for 2 weeks now and I feel like I'm the luckiest guy. I've heard talk about how some sony panels suffer of uneven backlighing or clouding, and I'm happy to say mine is perfectly even and I love it. one of my relatives bought an Olevia for christmas and after seeing mine, that thing went back to the store, now they want a sony xbr, can't blame them. it's a joy to watch can't wait to hook up my ps3 (when I get one) if you can afford it, don't settle for a lesser tv, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to LCD flat panel tv's
What's great about it: amazing color range, blackest backs, even backlight

I am a heavy gamer, i have my ps3 hooked up to this so of course i watch Blu Ray movies on it. But when i play games i see no lag at all the response is just awesome(for hd games) when i try to hook up a ps2 or an xbox they have horrible delay but the 360 and ps3 have no delay at all. The picture doesnt blur even in high action games or moives. the colors are deep and true. The refresh is amazing at 120Hz. I have my computer ran to it via hdmi and my ps3 throught a 4' monster hdmi. I am about to purchase a hddvd player just because i hate how they are fighting over who gets what movies. There gimic worked just because it made me have to buy them both but if i didnt have my ps3 i would go with the LG super blu just because if you buy a good player you will easily spend that or more for combining the prices. Also it leaves your hdmi ports free. which brings me to the plugs on this it has everything you need to hook up a hdtv system. it has 3 hmdi ports which is more then you can say for most tv's and plenty of componet and other hookups.
This tv is a must have so if you have a feeling about getting it go with it you wont be disapointed.
What's great about it: No Speed blur, darkest darks, color range is amazing.
What's not so great: Price! but i cant complain because i got an awesome product.

This TV is great! I have a couple Sony LCD sets and this by far is the best! The XBR engine is better than any other. If you are looking for the best in quality, this is it. It does come at a higher expense, but you definitely get what you pay for. My only complaint would be that it doesn't initialize well (handshake issue) using an HDMI with the Bose Lifestyle system. I am not sure if this is a Bose issue or a Sony issue. The inconvenience is a simple touch of two buttons to initialize the TV and Bose instead of one. If you use a component cable this issue is non-existent.
What's great about it: Display, Color
What's not so great: Bose Connection
