Great portable Sirius tuner

"I purchased this tuner to replace a Sportster Replay, as the Replay is not compatible with the SCVDOC1 and HONSC1 I bought to use Sirius in my factory XM Radio equipped Honda.
The unit is about the same width and height as my old Replay, but it is much thinner. The color display is easier to read than the blue and black display on my Replay. It has all of the features of my Replay, including pausing and rewinding the current broadcast. It has the jump feature which will take you to your local traffic and weather when you push the jump button. You can set your favorite NFL, NBA, NHL, college football, college basketball, and NASCAR teams and get game alerts which notify you when a game is playing and allows you to quickly switch over to it. You also get game tickers which scroll on the bottom and keep you updated on current scores.
The display is large and clear, and it displays both artist name and song title at the same time. If you do not need to use your Sirius tuner as an MP3 player (ex. own an iPod) and prefer a larger display, I highly recommend this tuner."

"This is a great little item. You can preset 30 stations with ease. You can listen to your favorite stations and by hitting the "jump" button it will automatically tune to the Traffic/Weather in your area the next time it's available. You can store up to 30 artists or songs, so when you're favorite group is on it alerts you and allows you to tune to that station with one push of a button. Had it installed and at Best Buy and (along with a FM wired modulator for about 30 bucks) it works GREAT!

What's great about it: Ease of Use, Great Display, Multiple Options.
What's not so great: -none thus far-
"The display matching is great...however the real bonus is in the large screen for browsing Sirius stations.
Easily moved and/or stored, Easy setup, Easy operation vis a vie other models.
As a note, for those trying to figure out where to mount the antenna (generally we're told to mount external/roof) mounting it on the interior dash, or even the windshield frame - internal to the vehicle - works just a well as an exterior mount!
As a con, the "vent mounts" are generally unstable, so if you have a lack of dash space on the center column, or don't like
"suction cup" window mounts, you may want to talk to your dealer/installer about warrantied installation."

"Great system. I highly recommend this system if your wanting to get a satallite radio installed into your car. it is easy to use once installed. The pause and rewind feature is really cool. and being able to change the background and text colors are really nice to have so you can adjust the colors to fit your car or to make it easier to read during the day or at night"

Big upgrade from Sportster 1

What's great about it: 3 bands of channels
What's not so great: fixed bracket, cannot be swiveled to passenger
"This is a great product! My husband and I had a Sportster1 installed in our 3series BWM and it held up fairly well. However, the Sportster 5 is a wonderful improvement. The 5 is much slimmer and lighter than the 1. The only downside is the bracket for our car is only available in a stationary model. This provides a great view for the driver, but as the passenger, it is almost impossible for me to see the display.
The greatest improvement is the fact that there are 3 bands of presets allowing for a total of 30 different channels. And presets are easily set and/or changed.
I also like the fact that you can listen to a channel and browse through the other channels without actually changing channels until you find something you like.
The bracket seems to be sturdier on this model combined with the lighter weight, makes the whole unit more secure and attractive.
Being able to change the color display was a big plus for my husband who is a total gadget geek.
Definately get the FM direct connect. It is well worth the $31. We had the unit professionally installed. The BestBuy associates were helpful and did a wonderful job on the install."

"I bought this receiver for my wifes's 2002 Safari van for Christmas last year. She had been bugging me for satellite radio one for several months and finally broke down and got this one as a suprise present.
The package I bought included all the required accesories to install the receiver in my vehicle.
I did the install myself. Suprisingly, the antenna installation went very smoothly. This was the part I was most worried about. I figured that getting the cable run from the external roof mounted antenna, into the vehicle and all the way to front dash was not going to be easy. As it turned out, I managed to get the cable snaked in thru the rear hatch door, down the side wall and all the way to the front dash with a minumum of disassembly. I only had to remove a few screws on the plastic trim along the bottom edge of the drivers door. The cabling was just long enough to reach the location I had chosen for the receiver.
The trickier part was getting the receiver hooked to the radio. Since the vehicle's radio has no auxillary input, i decided to go with the FM broadcast antenna that came in the package. This proved to be a easy to install but only worked satifactorily when in an area that has an available FM frequency that no radio station was broadcasting on. Even in Northern Michigan, this proved to be impossible!
Next I bought one of those cassette adapters that allow you to plug in an external audio source and connect it to your radio by inserting a fake cassette tape into the deck on the radio. This worked fine for a few days and then mysteriously quick working. Every time I would insert it into the deck, it would eject it back out.
I finaaly decided to go into Best Buy and talk to them about other options. I was directed to purchase an FM antenna adapter. This device installs inbetween the cars antenna and the Sirius receiver and turns off the cars antenna so that there's no interference from other radio stations broadcasting on the frequency you choose. This worked great and my wife finally has uninteruppted sattelite radio wherever she goes!
The receiver itself has many cool features. There are 10 preset buttons and 4 bands you can use to get a total of 40 preset stations. You can also scroll thru the available stations not only by station number but also by genre of music. The stations are broken down into categories such as; country, rock, 60's, 70's, talk radio, comedy, etc...
I especially like the recording feature. When you first select a station, the receiver starts recording. You can then go back and listen to approximately the last 45 minutes. This is a great feauture if you need to make a stop and don't want to miss a talk radio show or you just want to here that great tune over again!
I also use the favorite artist and favorite song features. Though my wife wins out when I select an artist that she isn't particularly fond of! This feature lets you add a song or the artist to your favorites list. It then alerts you whenever your favorite is playing on any station. With a simple press of one button, your favorite is playing! You can even manage the list of favorites and turn them on and off without loosen the setting al together.
All in all this receiver packs a lot of great features and was a great choice even for the do-it-yourself installer!"

What's not so great: It took over an hour and a half to get subscription activated.
"This unit is considarbly sleek, with great reception. I listen to it everday to and from school. Sirius has a wide range of channels for every listener. The only problem is that I had to call Sirius three times in order to get my subscription activated. The first time they told me their server was down, the second time I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them trying to get on the same page of what subscription plan I wanted and to get my subscription gift card added. The next morning with my third call to Sirius they finally got my account activated, after telling me that I had wasted 45 minutes and that they had lost all of the information that I had previously given them. But since then the product has worked with out any other complications."
