What's great about it: opening story has awesome graphics What's not so great: you have to kill every baddie just to move on.
"I did not like how you control the toon. Ok graphics once you start playing. I would have rather paid $20 for this game."

The best RPG I've played
05/13/2008

What's great about it: Great story, non-linear, great fighting combos What's not so great: Load times
"This has got to be the most exciting RPG I've played. Most get tedious after a while from being repetitive. The load times are annoying even with the latest patch. A new one is supposedly coming out on 05/16 that should reduce this by 80% and make other minor improvements. A definite buy!"

Excellent game

What's great about it: Great storyline. Has consequences based on chosen actions (may not always play through the game the same). What's not so great: Load times
"Very good game overall. It has a decent combat system, which gets even better as you progress through the game. Some areas take strategic planning, rather than just walking through like most games. The scenery is great, and the Aurora engine makes for smooth visuals. This is not a game for children, as some of the plots in the game involve sleeping with certain women. The US version is semi-censored, but still very adult in nature. Being able to play through the game 2-3 times, with different plots, quests, endings, etc is very nice. Depending on choices you make in the game, different things will happen. The load times have improved quite a bit with the most recent patch. They still take a few seconds, but much better than before. The performance of your machine has a huge impact on this. Overall, this is one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time."

Got me back in the Game
04/29/2008

What's great about it: Great story, good graphics, fun battle system What's not so great: No in game support for Xbox 360 control
"I've just got a PC in the last 6 months that will play newer games, so I've just gotten back to playing PC Games. I had previously gotten board whenever I played any RPG in the past, due to (what seemed to me) a repetitive combat system. Button, clicking - I never liked it. This one does provide an interesting twist to the combat system that has kept me entertained the whole time I have been fighting off these monsters. The graphics are good and I have found myself stopping to enjoy the scenary a few times. The only Con I have is the fact that there is no in game support for the Xbox 360 control. Since I have been a console player for the last 6-7 years, I have found myself wanting to use the 360 control for everything I play on my PC. I, however, have purchased software to get this control working for just about any game, so I kept The Witcher at five stars. This is the first RPG I have played in years, so please keep that in consideration when reading my review."

Great RPG

What's great about it: Hands on Combat, Great Story, Excellent Musical Score What's not so great: Load times can be tedious
"The Witcher has an excellent story with very fun hands on combat. You assume the role of a Witcher, a genetically modified human who kills monsters for money. The combat, especially on harder difficulties, is based on the potions, bombs ,and blade coatings you make for different combat scenarios. One of the greatest things about the game is the ability for you to make different choices in the game, many straddling the border of morality, and then later on the game will show you in a flashback type scene how your decision affected what is happening. The only negative thing about this game is that you must load whenever you enter another building or area, and it can be tedious. With the patch though load times are significantly reduced."

What's great about it: Great graphics and story What's not so great: A little hard to move in crowds of people. Lags some
"This is really over all a good game. Its nice to have an adult MATURE game. The plot is engaging and the fighting styles are fun. This game is a good filler between Oblivion and Fall out 3. Buy this game!"

What's great about it: Gameplay is refreshing, Storyline is great for many What's not so great: Storyline wasn't great for me, and mine crashes quite a bit
"All in all, this game is pretty good; for me it was only nearly worth the purchase, just even less so now that they're selling it for $39.99 + Free Shipping, and I had bought it right before they did so, which is really frustrating. Also (SPOILER), when I got towards the end of Chapter II; I knew a certain some one was under cover, and I wanted to get them before they got me, but the storyline didn't allow that; so that got me frustrated, along with the game falsely recording that I actually killed some one when I actually just let them be killed because I didn't want to get involved in the decision... So ultimately, taking the third decision doesn't mean anything, which is frustrating :/ (UNSPOILER) The game is very frustrating at times, but also surprising. Usually you can guess the plot twists which is very dull, and they make neutrality fairly hard in the game. Currently I've stopped playing because the game crashed during a cinematic after a boss fight, which made it so I'd have to do the task all over again, after failing once already because I wasn't prepared. But if you don't get the problems I do, I suggest buying it; especially to help the developers create more games like this, and hopefully they'll improve on their story lines being more Non-Linear."

What's great about it: Refreshing Combat System and Plot What's not so great: Tamed. Graphical Details in Dialogues Lost in Translation
"Yes, the cover art is not as exciting as other games and will not sell the game to casual gamers, so the hardcore dudes who always complain about the lack of hot new things need to pick this one up to support the developer. I would hate to see this game suffer the same fate as Vampire: Bloodline (A great game that caused the developer to go bankrupt because not enough people bought the game)."

What's great about it: Great story, graphics, and combat system What's not so great: You need a powerful PC to fully enjoy it
"I was waiting for other titles this year like Assassin's Creed, Crysis and Bioshock and I just picked this game up because I saw some positive reviews on a webite. I am so glad I did! Since buying this game I have been hooked and don't play anything else. This game is simply amazing. Great story, anomations and battle system. It is something like Oblivion combined with Diablo except I am starting to like it more than both of those games. You really have to try this game. It is from an unknown Polish dev company but I am sure they will soon give other companies a run for their money."

What's great about it: Fun gameplay, adult storyline What's not so great: Load times
"I really enjoy this game. The battle system is quite fun. This game is NOT a hack-and-slash button masher. The fighting styles create great strategy within the game."
