What's great about it: Slingox is easy to set up, easy to use, and serves the purpose of delivering the content of my home TV to my laptop.
What's not so great: A minor point is that getting the proper remote for my DVR took some trial and error.

"I have had the system for about 3 months now with no problems. Setup was straight foward and easy. At time the frame rate does go down but it has nothing to do with the box. Make sure you have a good to fast internet connection on both sides"

What's great about it: Watch TV anywhere with a laptop or iphone.
What's not so great: Nothing i can think of
"I've read about this for the past 2 years, and finally purchased it. Set up was a snap, however I have an Apple Airport Base Station, so I had to contact support to get that set up. They connected to my computer remotely, and had it set up within minutes, a total snap. Slingbox customer service was excellent.
I can watch HD TV from my Comcast DVR anywhere in my house, or online using the watch.slingbox website. The quality is very good ( better that I expected) and the software could not be easier to use. If you're on the fence about this, get it, you won't regret it."

"Downloading drivers and installation is a little tricky, but I am sure it you call support they can help. I had to call them because I could only get it to work with the S-video input, but I called them and they were very helpful."

"It was so easy to get up and running with the Slingbox SOLO I bought on sale at Best Buy before xmas. Unlike my Sony Location Free device I was up and running and viewing TV over the internet very quickly. I have only been able to view Location Free over my home network.
The picture is very good considering it's streamed over the internet and if it were not for the fact that it needs direct wired ethernet connection or another expensive device to wirelessly connect it to the router I would buy another. If Location Free were able to as easily connect to the internet, with as good a picture, it would win hands down, but for ease of use and set up it seems to me the Sling Player can't be beat. At least not for now."

"If you travel a lot or have kids that watch DVD's on a different input on the TV other than the cable than this is the best gift! The fact that it also is not an annual subsriber service tells me this company wanted high volume and they should get it. Plus now that I have figured out the way to get it on my phone I am ecstatic. What a great product. Having the ability to watch sports games in one room while the kids are watching their favorite show in another room, plus now with wireless in airplanes I can watch shows and games at 30,000 feet."

What's great about it: Easy set up. Integrates immediately into the home network. I've been able to watch tv from my windows mobile phone.
What's not so great: Someone using the tv the slingbox is on but that's not too bad. Need High speed internet
"I had read other reviews stating that the tech support was bad or didn't work. However for me...IT WORKED RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. Setup was no problem...the network configuring was a bit tricky but not hard at all. I also got the software for my windows mobile phone & have been able to watch tv in the bathroom! I wish I knew about this technology when it came out in 2005."

What's great about it: being able to catch live news/weather events while at the office
"Slingbox was easy to set up, and worked without much effort from me. It's great to be able to view recorded dvr events during office down time, or while working late or on weekends. Also comes in handy during severe weather events in this area since i am able to tune into live tv broadcast from my desk!
Also, if discussing a tv show with co-workers, I'm able to log into my dvr and show everyone what "we're" talking about ... very cool.
I love this thing!"

What's great about it: American TV especially in non-English speaking countries. The unit is easy to set-up and is affordable.
What's not so great: The picture(video) quality is dependent upon internet connection speed. If weak, video poor and lags.
"The unit is a godsend for American expatriates residing overseas and especially in non-English speaking/writing countries. You are only limited on your channels, depending on your cable provider in the U.S. It keeps us up to date on our favorite sports and TV shows which are not otherwise broadcasted locally, or provided with contracted cable TV, or on the Armed Forces Network. The video quality and streaming time is dependent upon local connection speed and bandwidth. Ideally if your are hooked up to cable internet, it is awesome. If you are dependent on wireless for your connection, the weaker signal strength really is frustrating and the video quality and lag leaves little to be desired."

"Was really easy to set up on a Mac. It is really clear on computer or iphone with a strong wifi signal outside of the original set up location. If the wifi signal isn't very strong, then there are delays and the clarity is grainy, but it is still worth it if you enjoy watching tv on the go. There is a delay that is annoying anytime you change the channel or bring up a menu on the iphone with wifi. This will also control what is being watched at the location of the slingbox since there is not an internal tuner with this particular sku and it can only be viewed on 1 unit at a time, either computer or iphone. The price is steep, but if you can afford it, it is worth it."

What's great about it: In theory, it's good.
What's not so great: Always have connection issues.
"I've
owned Slingplayer/Slingbox for 2 years now and it has been a constant
nightmare. There are always connection issues with the network that it
interfaces with. Their customer support is helpful but one shouldn't
need technical support every time you want to use the product, and it
seems that is what is required. There are issues with the computer's
firewall, port forwarding settings on the router, etc. Everytime my ISP
changes something, Slingbox quits working and I need tech support
again. I'm down right now because the slingbox doesn't see my home
network. All I get is headaches and disappointment for my $179."

"I bought a Sling box solo and it worked for a while with a few glitches. The manufacture sent out a firmware update and it has never worked properly since. I could no longer erase shows fro the DVD on my cable box and the sound was all messed up. The picture acted like I had a bad internet connection but Cox cable gives me a soldi 20 MB/sec most days. Now I get a no video signal message when it connects. I called to explain the system was working prior to the update and they told me it was a simple fix but I would need to pay 29.00 to hear it. Some company they send out updates that break stuff and want to be paid to fix their mistake. I will never buy from them again."

"Since I have purchased all 3 of sling media's product I will review each one in this review.
Sling Box SOLO
I have been hearing about slingbox for the past 2 3years and finally decided to try it and guess what? it is totally worth it! very easy to set up and the software is very easy to use. Picture quality is great over your home network and I have tried at my friend's place the picture is not bad, of course cannot compare to it when you watch it over your home network. I also have my friends overseas in HK and China to download the software and watch it over there and according to them the picture quality is great.
Another plus for this product or ll slingboxes is that let say you are using your friend's computer which doesnt have the sling player installed instead of downloading the software and going through the install process, you can go to slingbox's beta website www.sling.com, log in with your sling account and there you go you can watch your slingbox on your web browser.
Although they say you can only hook up one device on SOLO i have found a way to hook up multi sources with SOLO all you need is a switch box like this one:

Philips - 4-Way Auto Component Switcher
the reason i go with this one is because it has a auto switch feature, where when you turn on let say the DVD player the switcher will auto switch to that DVD player from let say your cable box. It is useful because while you are miles away you don't want to call your house and let your family or friend switch the input source for you. I have used t his switcher to hook up with my cable tv, dvd player and another dvd player, so total of 3 devices I can control when I am on biz trip in Atlanta while all my stuff are at home in San Francisco. To be honest it will take some time for you set up the switch box with the SOLO, if you have problems please feel free to e mail me and I will be happy to walk you through it.
Slingbox PRO HD
Nice thing about this product is that it streams in true HD, the picture is great, i hooked up a sling catcher in my living room while put the PRO HD in my bedroom and the picture quality is great! true HD.
Slingbox Sling Catcher
This is a great product, like i said I hooked this one up in my living room, what this product does is instead of watching your tv on computer you can hook this up with a tv and watch it on tv instead of the small labtop screen. Again if your slingbox and sling catcher is on the same network then the picture quality is greeeeat! however if you take the sling catcher with you to a friend's house or while traveling then the picture quality is way less than at home. I installed the sling catch in my living room so that i can return the cablebox/DVR i have with Comcast which will save me 16 dollars a month, so I will make my sling catch purchase worth the money within a year.
Sling box Turbo
So i bought this with my slingbox purchase, because my router is no way near my TV and let me tell you slingbox turbo sucks! instead but linksys or netgear powerline brand, it works much better! by the way they will work together!
Finally my suggestion for those of you who want to purchase one, if you want to use slingbox mainly to watch TV while you are away, a slingbox solo will do. Sling Catch is a great product but i wouldn't take it with me while traveling.

"I thought this was a great product until I did an upgrade and then the box would no longer connect to the network. Slingmedia denies that the upgrade cause the problem but you can go to the slingcommunity web site and see a large number of other boxes that have had the same problem. You get only 90 days free tech support (including installation and issue support) and 1 year limited Hardware support... after that it costs $29.99 per issue. You can get a extended support for $49.99. And you MUST renew within the warranty period (i.e. 90 day and 1 year) or you will have to pay extra or not get extended support at all."

"IVE OWNED 2 UNITS THE ORIGINAL PRO (RED) BOTH UNITS FAILED AT 13 MONTHS OLD RIGHT AFTER THE FIRMWARE UPDATES ERROR CODE 0x92340011 LOOK THIS UP IN GOOGLE AND RIGHT AFTER THE PRO HD WAS RELEASED..HMM... BECAUSE IM 1 MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY THE WANT $30 PER PHONE CALL SO THE CAN TELL ME WAT THE ERROR IS BUT NO GARUNTEES THE CAN FIX IT ... I USED TO PRAISE THIS COMPANY TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY ...NEVER AGAIN......OH BTW I AM A NETWORK SPECIALIST AND HOLD MANY CERTIFICATIONS FROM CISCO SYTEMS AND MICROSOFT...LINUX..ECT. "Let me get the bad out of the way first - c'mon Sling Media and get with the times, this thing needs to be wireless. It is not, so I had to buy the additional Sling Link ($83 at my local Best Buy). Both the Link and the Solo were a piece of cake to hook up and I had them wired and powered in under 15 minutes. You will need an additional COMPONENT video cable to connect this unit, it is not supplied. Downloaded the latest version of the software from the website and had it functioning flawlessly right off the bat. Tried it remotely from work and worked just as well. Great product for those that travel a lot like I do. At least now I am sort of getting my money's worth for that outrageous cable bill I pay every month.
Let me also add that I am probably one of the few people around that actually bought the Hava Titanium HD WiFi first and couldn't return it fast enough. The wireless feature and some bad advice from a store employee (who was at least honest enough to tell me that his knowledge of the products was very limited) were what steered me in the Hava direction to begin with. It was pretty functional when I was in my house (and had slightly better picture quality than the Sling Solo), but didn't work worth a darn remotely. Just too many bugs still to be ironed out with the Hava and they seem to be rushing their product out into the marketplace. The Hava did not recognize my HD cable box and I had to manually program every button from my remote. This took over an hour and was barely functional after all of that time and effort.
Sling has been around the longest and has learned from their experience. Stick with the leaders in this technology. You will not be disappointed."

"First off I don't really plan to use this for viewing via internet. This is strictly for home LAN use. Setup was a breeze and I was up and running in 15 minutes. A wireless adapter would be great slingmedia, how about working on that. Video quality on my LAN is excellent, streaming at 2.5GB+/sec. I finally can use my 32" monitor fully. An excellent product that I happily recommend."
