I work out of town and paying for dish at home. I didn't want to have to pay for 2 cable bills so I bought this lovely piece of technology. Well worth the money if you are only looking at paying one cable bill while being in 2 places.

I rate this product as average as I don't regret paying the $100 during the 2011 Black Friday pricedrop. I am able to pull up the TV on my laptop and watch anywhere in my house via the wireless cable internet. HOWEVER, I had visions of watching via iPhone, etc. Did pay the $30 for the slingplayer on the iPhone but because 4G is mostly not available, the speed/buffering makes it unwatchable. Until the speeds improve, don't count on being able to watch via a sprint card or hotspot in the car, but like I said it is nice to be able to create a portable TV at home via the laptop.
I am curious to know if the Sling HD player will creat better picture quality on laptops since laptop displays usually aren't that high quality to begin with.
What's great about it: Create Portable TV via Laptop & high speed wireless internet
What's not so great: If it's not high speed internet, it's pretty much unwatchable.

The sound stopped working on my previous 5-year old Slingbox SOLO, so I checked the Best Buy website and found that the SOLO was on sale for half off the usual price. I paid for it and drove to the local Best Buy Store and picked it up. I also have an original Slingbox that is still working just fine. I am a Happy Slingbox user. I buy all my Slingboxes when they are on sale at Best Buy.
What's great about it: Great price, easy to set up, easy to use
What's not so great: No way to send it in for repair, if needed.

Do not buy any SlingBox product. It will go bad exactly after the warrenty period (1 year). You can't even Reset. The buttons will not work. Until or unless you took their additional warrenty from them the support will not even talk to us. Search the Google about this. You will see everyone complains about this. Last point... "Do not buy". :-(

The picture quality is good on a computer or smaller screen, but not as good as I hoped for. Still an innovative and strong product.

Very little time to set this up. Worked like a charm. The internet connection is pretty good. I wish I would have bought the Pro version, but I don't think it is worth the price.

I paid $99.99 when it was on sale before christmas. it is a very cool item, but i dont think its worth almost $200.00 It was easy to hook up. I installed the app on my droid x as well. Within 10 minutes everything was up and running. I used the component cables and on the droid, the picture is in HD using wifi. When using 3g, the picture is not that great, pending on signal. When out with the wife and child doing errands, it is very nice to be able to watch the Buffalo Sabres and Bills games on my phone. I also have watched shows that I recorded on my DVR. This thing is very cool, but priced kind of high. Slingbox website sometimes has offers (coupons). I def recommend. By the way I have it hooked up to Verizon FIOS DVR.
What's great about it: Watch my tv from anywhere in world
What's not so great: Retail price

The sling box is a great product. We sling to our ipad and iphones and it works fine. Just recognize that the Ipad Slingplayer App is different from the Iphone Slingplayer app. However, you can use the Iphone sling player app on both device.
What's great about it: Helps stick to one TV/Movie library, we can sling the dvr, on demand, and live tv.
What's not so great: navigating menus on the tv through the slingplayer app is a little slow.

My husband and I just moved out of the country for a couple years. I didn't know what to expect from my new location, so started looking at options for watching streaming TV.
Overall, the Slingbox was easy to set up, after I got the right equipment. The Slingbox needs to be hardwired through an ethernet connection to your network. And if you're like me, your router and TV are NOT close to each other. So, I went back to Best Buy and purchased a Netgear Wireless Network Extender to plug into the outlet close to my TV. Connected very easily after that!
Regarding watching TV now - I'm not sure if it's my computer's processor, or just part of the slingbox software, but when I first start watching a show - even something I've DVRed - it stutters- like the buffering is slow. But after it gets going, it's usually fine. My husband watched live football on it, and live-action stutters a lot. If I watch TV on the "best" setting of the slingbox screen, it stutters (but if I use the "better" setting, I can see just fine, and programs seem to buffer faster). And it doesn't matter if I click pause and wait like watching a streaming video online - it still stutters. When I use the on-screen remote (looks just like the remote at home), it takes longer for the program to react after I've "pressed a button" (aka - used the mouse to click on the remote button) than it does on the real one at home.
That all being said, I think this is a really great product! I'm able to continue to watch my favorite shows, including the ones I DVRed onto my box at home, and my husband can watch live sports (stuttering sports is better than no sports).
Really, the stuttering isn't as bad as I'm making it sound (but want you to know what to expect). It's an inconvenience, but not an annoyance. And it's CERTAINLY worth a bit of inconvenience to be able to have a piece of home, while we're away from home.
What's great about it: Ease of use after setup.
What's not so great: Buffering is sometimes slow.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is my second slingbox. I upgraded so I could use it remotely. I can now access my slingbox on my computer at work, traveling, anywhere! Plus I bought the app for my Droid and it works great! The only negative is if someone is watching the tv the slingbox is connected to and you change the channel remotely, it will change the channel on the tv. This really has not been an big issue for me. If this is a problem it can be corrected if you have your setup on a tv that is not used all the time - but this will require your cablebox, router, and slingbox to be connected to that tv.

No problems with device. I need a little faster broadband connection in order to get better quality. But overall, it's fine.

I recieved a solo just a little over a year ago..to which it one day just stopped working. When researching the error message I found this is happens often just after the warranty of course runs out. I really enjoyed being able to catch my tv shows even when traveling and really enjoyed watching the football in regions my teams wouldn't be on. So disppointed to see that a chip burnout is a "usual" issue with them and yet for years nothing has been done about it. Enjoy it for your year if you get one and be ready to replace it every year. :(
What's great about it: Features were great
What's not so great: life span of product not exceptable

The Slingbox Solo works exactly as advertised! It was a snap to set up and I had it online in minutes. I have it connected to a Tivo Premiere and it is easy to control it via the web interface as well as through the iPad app I have installed. VERY cool to watch football on the iPad whenever and wherever I want - as long as I have Internet access, I have access to my TV!
What's great about it: Does exactly what it is supposed to do - easily!
What's not so great: No complaints so far!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Got Slingbox so I could watch TV at my vacation home without buying cable service. Great technology, easy to set up.

So far it has worked pretty well. Quality is good on ipad, iphone, or pc. Sometimes there is a delay when switching channels. Particularly useful if you spend time between different residences that may have different cable stations available. A potential drawback is that the person watching the tv remotely and anyone watching the tv on location have to watch the same channel. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase.
What's great about it: picture quality good, not that hard to set up, allows for more use of a cable subscription
What's not so great: substantial lag sometimes when changing channels

Setting up the slingbox wasn't the hardest, but a pain when connecting to my router. The box forces you to connect to slingbox's website to view content instead of using a program on the desktop. Even with high speed internet and no other download on the network I had buffering issues. Having to pay for the box and for software for my iPad was just an extra insult. Sadly because of these issues I decided to return my slingbox, but hopefully others will have better luck.
What's great about it: Small
What's not so great: Slow, buffering, software is pricey
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great invention. My only complaint was setting up on my Droid3 after purchasing slingmobile app. It took full circle with slingbox, phone carrier, Motorola, Droid Market and then back to slingbox before the issue was resolved. I love that the tv remote displays on my home computer. I wish that there was similar feature on my touch screen phone.
What's great about it: Watch my cable anywhere.
What's not so great: Feed on cell phone

I work on the road A LOT and was gonna be stuck in MN for the first weekend of the football season and did not want to miss the EAGLES game. I bought the box for $149, set it up in no time and watched the game (WIN) comfortably from my hotel room.
There are no fees and I can control ALL the features on my DVR cable box from anywhere in the world. There is also a smart phone app but it cost an extra $29 and I don't need it now. You can also hook your computer up to a flat screen TV (which are in almost all hotels now) and watch it on a bigger screen perfectly clear. There is an HD Slingbox that controls multiple devices too for $299.
I highly recommend the Slingbox!!!
What's great about it: everything as advertised
What's not so great: no negatives to report from me!

Love having access to my TV even when I am on the go. But you have to have a strong internet signal to truly enjoy. And even though it works with the iPad, it is an expensive app that doesn't always function easily.
What's great about it: It really works!
What's not so great: iPad app not that good
