I've recently been having issues with vandalism being done to my car sitting in a lit driveway in front of my house. Finally, after two incidents in one weekend, I went to BB to see what they had. I came home with the indoor (it was the only one they had) master system and an expansion outdoor camera.
The Pros:
Once I read through the set up documents and got to it, set up and installation was surprisingly easy. The software does not seem to be very demanding--I set it up on an old desktop I had that hasn't been used in a few of years since I got a new one. The software works just fine on a Celeron machine running XP with a gig of ram (though, that is the ONLY thing running on that comp as it is now dedicated for the cameras). Installing the outdoor camera was my biggest concern--but it turned out to be as simple as three screws to the roof overhang and done. I threaded the power cord around the garage door in the upper corner and simply plugged it into an outlet. The system does use PowerLine networking, so you can't plug it into a surge protector--but you CAN use an extension cord! PowerLine uses the electrical wires of your home to transmit data. There is no need to run extra ethernet cable or A/V cables--but the data does NOT transmit wirelessly, which means you won't get any interference from halogen lights, cordless phones or radios.
The computer running the master system almost instantly picked up the indoor and outdoor cameras as soon as they were plugged in. I did not have to do ANYTHING to network the cams--they just worked! How often does that happen?! (Honestly, after this experience, I'm seriously considering converting my wireless home network to 100% PowerLine... it's awesome!) I also tried remote viewing--worked fine! It was a little hard to find the website for it--I stumbled upon it by accident--but it did work.
The Cons:
The cameras do not have any form of night vision. BUT--in my driveway, I have motion sensor lights. When the lights go on, the picture from the driveway cam is pretty decent. In the dark, the picture is good enough to discern movement and shapes, but the cameras are really just like your eyes--you wouldn't be able to identify anyone caught on the film in the dark. Additionally, several of the features available with the software have to be activated by paying a yearly fee for premium service. For example, on the free system, you can't pan and zoom--you have to pay for the extra service (79.00 for the year) from Logitech to use it. Finally, to work to full potential, the computer running the master system software needs to STAY ON. If the computer is off, no live surveillance or recording takes place. If you have an old, noisy, heat-kicking machine like I do, that may be a consideration.
All in all, I'm really happy with my purchase. I did, however, get it for a GREAT price (well below the regular list price) at my local Best Buy store--I really don't think I would have considered buying (or keeping) the system if it hadn't been on sale. But really, if you have the means, this system is easy to install, RELIABLE and a really decent way to ease into video surveillance for your home.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, uses PowerLine networking, reliable
What's not so great: No night vision, have to pay extra for premium features

Installation wizard worked just fine on a new ASUS netbook. Set up also successfully established a remote viewing account with WiLife - although you can't use an iPhone to view remotely. Biggest problem I'm having is the inconsistent system requirements. Box cover clearly shows a minimum 1.4GHz processor for one camera so theoretically the 1.6 GHz Netbook should have run one camera without a problem. That is not the case and after digging thru the documentation in the CD it showed 2.2 GHz was needed for one camera. There are a few options you can adjust but could never get a smooth live or playback picture but the most annoying part is the "Live" viewing mode actually has lags up to three minutes. It does properly record and you will get an accurate time of an event in playback mode but if you want to look at real live feeds get a more powerful machine (2.2 GHz for one camera and an additional 0.2 Ghz for each additional camera).
The system is not compatible with Mac but I did install it on my Mac since it runs Parallels. It did work (except camera names were not displayed) but was unstable and crashed frequently. It did work fine on an 8 year old PC running XP SP2 at 3.0 GHz.
Bottom line: system is easy to install and basic operations are intuitive but if you need or want a dedicated machine to run this software you're gonna drop about $500 on it. Also disappointed in the night time capability of the cameras but the online documentation does indicate that night cameras are in the works.
What's great about it: Easy installation and operation
What's not so great: add-on cameras a bit pricey and limited night ability
I would recommend this to a friend!

I was very excited about this system and have been severely disappointed. I bought 2 cameras and they were easy to install. So far I have not been able to view the cameras other than inside of my home on recorded video. This system does not work with Blackberry or iPhone. It must be a Windows based phone. I can not view the system from another computer as promised. There is a firewall issue and I have enabled my router to UpnP as well as opened the ports as recommended. I have inactivated my firewall and still can't see a thing outside of my house. Also, tech support answers the phone but they have really limited knowledge on how to fix any real issues with compatibility. They waste the customers time, escalate the problem and no one ever calls you back. I would not buy this system again because of the terrible support and the limited compatibility with most other commonly used products. I bought the system to monitor my nanny but now I have to stay up late to watch the recorded video because the system is useless to view outside of my home. If you have a simple technical issue then you may get it to work . Try to find another system. I wish I did.
What's great about it: Easy set up
What's not so great: Not compatible with alot of applications or routers, no iPhone or Blackberry

Great concept, easy to use but did not work for me. I was looking for a system that would be compatible with an iPhone app and this one did not. The standard camera gave a good picture and the replay was very easy to playback from home computer. The email notification was an excellent option, it would send you a picture of the motion and a link to view video but you had to pay an additional fee per year to be able to use this option. I did not like the fact you had to pay a yearly fee to view video on line. There was no option to decide what areas of view would be detectable. This was an issue for the camera I had in front of the house, it picked up every vehicle passing my house. The clock camera was horrible, blurry video. Other systems I looked at are much harder to install and you would really need some computer background. This one is very user friendly to hookup.
What's great about it: Easy to use and setup Standard Camera good images, email notification
What's not so great: Not iPhone compatible , Clock Camera fuzzy picture.

I love the concept around this security system! PROS: No wires, no great initial expense and set up is so easy. CONS: Add-on cameras, I think, are expensive. And, alas, after 1 email, 2 support calls and downloading a new version of the software, I cannot get the system to identify the camera. So, at this moment, I'm getting ready to call customer support....again. I really want this product to work because of the PROS mentioned above. I am hopeful that the issue is on my end and it's not a problem with the system. I would cautiously recommend this product to a friend.
What's great about it: Great Price, Simple to Set up, No Wires
What's not so great: Can't get it to work!

Bought this system about a year ago and 4 additional cameras (for a total of 5) and am very satisfied! The resolution is very nice for a web cam and the motion sensing zones are a huge plus for when you have moving objects in a room like a fan that you don't want to trigger false alerts. The automatic brightness controls ensure you're getting the best picture for various lighting conditions. The video compression is also very nice. I basically let the cameras run all the time and only record when motion is detected. Running on this setting for a month on 5 cameras only takes up a few gigs.
The free remote access is also very nice and easy to use. Logitech does have a paid service that allows you to perform other options such as zooming, turning on/off cameras remotely, audio alerts, but it's not really a necessity. The software is extremely easy to use with basically a "set it and forget it" setup (expect for when you need to arm it). When the system is armed, you can have snap shots of motion sent to your phone, email, or both. The software also allows you to turn off the LEDs on the cameras in case you don't want people to know they are running.
This is a very nice system to watch over your home and I highly recommend it. However, I will caution people to pay close attention the system requirements before picking this up. Depending on how many cameras you plan on running, you'll need a pretty robust PC to run these. My system could run it fine, but I did find that the bandwidth on my PC was laggy when trying to run other applications that used the Internet like my Zune service, email, general Internet, etc. With all the cameras I have running I got around this problem by simply building a separate PC with plenty of juice who's sole purpose is to push those cameras and now all Internet applications on my personal PC run MUCH faster!
What's great about it: Good resolution, motion sensing zones, video compression, free remote access, and ease of use
What's not so great: For the cost, I wish it had night vision
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased the system with an additional outdoor camera. I had a picture within 15 minutes and had both cameras fully installed and operating within 90 minutes. Worked like a charm! Fairly intuitive software plus very easy access from a remote computer via the internet. I have large security lights near both cameras' field of views which works great. But do NOT think these are night vision. They must have some light.
DVR works well and is easy to navigate. Motion detection for recording really helps when reviewing though it can be overly sensitive to snow, high winds with blowing leaves. I would rather have it trigger on these things than miss the bad guys, though.
You also have the ability to enable or disable the visible camera status LEDs. Great idea! You may want the potential robber to see the camera blinking away when he approaches your counter. I don't want the outside intruders to see the camera taking the videos. Very nice option. Excellent product. If you are installing to XP Pro be sure you are at SP3 to speed install and make a more stable interface.
What's great about it: 15 minutes and its running, easy acess from any computer via WiLife site
What's not so great: Some light needed at night, will false trigger from snow or very high winds
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought this camera so I could log in to see my son get off the bus from school. Love it! Its easy to setup, no router required. Tried the Linksys camera and couldnt log into it from the router. This camera doesnt require router access or wiring. Took about 15 minutes to setup. The only downside is pan tilt zoom costs about $80 per yr and you cant use pan tilt zoom features from offsite cptr.
What's great about it: Easy to setup
What's not so great: Pan Tilt Zoom costs extra

fairly easy system to set up. disappointed that it wont work across one circuit breaker box to another in the same house, so i can only use it to monitor either the front or the back. video quality is OK, expected a little better low light quality. love that it saves the files in .wmv, easy to copy to flash drive, etc. a little blurry and a pain to focus if computer is any distance from camera. for the price it should have a little better resolution and optical zoom. good for a quick and dirty install. we'll see if it holds up.
What's great about it: no stringing video cable all over the house
What's not so great: wouldn't work on outlets on seperate circuit breaker box on backside of house

Purchased this camera for a single family home. It was very easy to set up like all the reviews mention
If you are running Vista you have to download additional software off the support page bc the version is newer than what is on the cd(no biggie) Having issues with getting the alerts for email and text with a yahoo account you can only call cst service during certain times PST time.(love the fact you can understand the rep)
You can not attach to a surge so you must have 2 outlets available.
I love the fact you can get real time video over my BlackJack 2 and other computers. There is a additional $80.00 service you can purchase to get zooming features and alert tone etc. But I don't need it in the event you need to copy the video the police have all those advance tools they can use to get zoom etc.
Love the fact that they include several types of mounting features.
I would not install on your main computer you have to be hard wired at all times to having it working so if you have a labtop you can't just go to another room unless you take the whole thing with you and the cords are not that long.
The quality of the camera is excellent I have mine on the window that looks outside and there is no glare and I can see clearly. I had to put black tape over the blinking lights to keep it discrete. Overall love the item and will be purchasing more cameras hopefully can get a sale as they are expensive.
What's great about it: Super Easy to install for a beginner
What's not so great: You can not use a surge protector

Set is a breeze. Softwear installed smoothly. Not wireless just needs a plug. Wire is small enough to run in the wall. Lights on the camera take away from the descretness of the watching. Picture quality is very good. Better than a web cam as I was thinking. To set up a small house with moderate cameras you will need about 4 cameras. That means $ 299 + (3 x $229) = $986 + tax. You will spend over 1k for a good system. Might consider getting a real wired system with 6+ cameras installed and pay about twice that. Also in the cost is a computer needed. Would not use on your primary computer. The program and video files may bog it down and will fill the hard drive.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, functions work as advertised
What's not so great: price per camera

If you want to do simple things like pan the camera, you have to subscribe to an $80 year plan. This is ridiculous. As you go through the manual, you will see references to Platinum support, meaning, 709% of the function is not available unless you pay. I don't recall seeing anything on the box showing this limitation. I let logitech corporate know of my displeasure as a 20 year loyal customer. I took the camera back.
However, if you don't want to use the cool software features, install is easy, but be sure not to plug camera into a power strip as I think the camera uses the electric systems as the network (not sure). Setup is easy. Basic function is easy. Accessing the camera remotely is easy.
What's great about it: easy to install
What's not so great: Most software functions are blocked

This system is definitelly worth buying. It is easy to set up. (If you have VISTA you will need to call Logitec and they will have you download one additional file.) Setup couldn't have been easier - install the CD, plug in the USB gateway, hook up the cameras. Video quality is excellent, and cameras are reasonably small. Our only concern prior to purchase was that one of the cameras is on a circuit on a different breaker box than the controller computer and other 2 cameras, but that wasn't a problem either.
We only had one support issue, couldn't get it to connect to the WiLife Online. Turns out that Command Center reads its internet settings from IE, and we had a proxy server configured in IE.
What amazed me most about this product was the support. I called the 800# and got through to somebody immediately. They were obviously American, spoke plain English, understood their product, and were as helpful as could be. Absolutely amazing!
What's great about it: Easy setup, works well
What's not so great: No support for Linux

The reason that I bought the camera is because someone had been breaking into my basement, I had an idea who it was but I couldnt catch him, so I went and bought a camera and had it easily installed within 15 minutes. I installed the camera on Friday night and had the guy arrested on Monday night. The system did a very nice job. I extracted the video and burnt it on a CD for the cops to take with them as evidence. When i show people the video the first thing people say is how good the quality is. I will definately be buying the outside camera as well.

Very innovative product. Extremely easy to install. The USB receiver is a great idea! No dealing with cables, reconfiguring routers, etc. Basically, just install the software, plug in the camera, plug in receiver and it's ready to go. The picture is not crystal clear but certainly good enough. It's great that I can view the feed over the internet for no charge. It took a while for me to realize that to get alerts about motion, I had to sign on to a yearly plan for $79.95. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend this camera for an easy to install and worthwhile security device!
What's great about it: Easy Installation
What's not so great: Email alerts requires yearly subscription.

I've been looking for an inexpensive security system to keep an eye on my house and my dogs. After some searching, came across the WiLife system. After reading the reviews and talking with personnel at Best Buy I figured, "why not", if I didn't like it I could always take it back. From the time I got it out of the box to viewing my front room on my computer took less than 15 minutes. To make sure that it worked from remote sights, I called my buddy in Tennessee and my brother in Michigan, even talked with my buddy across town and they were amazed at the picture clarity and field of vision. I think it's a great idea to be able to get the alerts when I'm not at home to make sure that everything is fine at home, very re-assuring. For the money I think it's a good buy. I will be purchasing an outdoor camera and another inside camera to complete my security system. One of the drawbacks is that they could have enclosed some better security stickers for the windows. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for some peace of mind when it comes to security around the home or office.
What's great about it: Easy to Use
What's not so great: Need an electrical outlet nearby for camera set-up
I would recommend this to a friend!

I wanted something easy to install, portable in case I move, a system that would give me email alerts, allow online real time viewing and record motion detected segments. This product does all of these things very well. I do a lot of security work for businesses. The video quality is not as high as an expensive system, but is better than most I see and certainly worth the price. I bought one camera and tried it for a couple of weeks. I've had six operating with no problems for a couple of weeks now. Very pleased. It was a little difficult to configure my router and firewall to allow Direct Mode (which gives you unlimited online viewing instead of a 10 minute limit). But if you or someone you know is computer savvy, you'll figure it out. Phone and email customer service is below average, but the website has helpful white papers. You may have to temporarily disable your virus protection software and/or firewall to get WiLife to recognize your cameras. But after it recognizes them, you can reactivate your virus protection and firewall.
What's great about it: Easy to Install, Works like advertised, Good Quality
What's not so great: No night vision, Direct Mode hard to configure
I would recommend this to a friend!
