What's great about it: Clarity. Ease of Use, Podcasts, Recorded TV, Audo Books What's not so great: Sony to cheap to include a 5¢ lanyard. Oh, well.
"I have tried three other MP3s. This is the first that operates as you would expect a Walkman to operate. Duh. We download audio books from out local library, podcasts, even recorded TV programs. And, yes even music.
But, you must download Sony's Media Manager and upgrade to Pro (only $12.95) and this beauty converts all of your home videos and photos so they can be viewed on your mp3. It is fantastic. It finds your podcosts and recorded TV and all you have to do is highlight the item and right click Transfer. Voila.
I wish there was an 8 gig version, but the 4 gig easily handles about 4 hours of recorded TV.
I am amazed at the video quality of the recorded TV and the 2" screen makes it very "viewable.""

"I will admit I am a huge iPod fan, mainly because there are a lot of accesseries to go along with the iPod, they have huge storage capacity (i.e. 160gb), and with their iTouch line a new way to have fun with your music. As far as Sony is concerned I think they are on to something with this MP3 player. I own a lot of Sony products fron the sony cybershot to the playstation3. The players look nice not overly cheesy or cheap. They have a load of music applications to make the music you put into it sould as if you had a high priced system hooked up to it to make it sound awesome. the only drawback that I found was that if you run an older version of XP the drag and drop feature is hard to make it work with iTunes applications. But they have the media manager software (available at sony.com) to help with taking your AAC/M4A files and put them into the walkman. Overall I think that with a bigger GB line that the Sony Walkman line could very well give the iPod a run for their money. The only other thing I could tell Sony is go back to basics, keep on designing a player that focuses on better sound quality and bigger GB space."

"A couple a days ago I stopped by a SonyStyle shop and checked out the new arrivals. Not only did the looks of this player grabbed my attention, but the ability to transfer files directly. This sounded like a bizarre move from Sony, but still, I decided to give it a try. I got the Black 4GB.
After plugging the player to my computer via the USB cable, Win XP recognized the Walkman displaying it as an icon in the Windows Explorer and I started dropping files and folders. Afterwards I created and edited the playlists all from my PC. File transfer was really fast. Video transfer is also very cool, although the only format supported is .mp4. There is a nice converter out there for free for those of you who would like to use it. Within the player, you can navigate easily sorting music by artist, song, year or even by your created folders. Note that you can still use WMP to transfer your files if you still wish to.
As far as performance, its lightweight, has a 1.8' screen size. Battery so far has lasted 17+ hours and still working. FM Radio is a nice feature but it lacks a voice recorder. Picture display is decent, and that's all you get. As opposed to the iPod or the Zen, there are no contacts or calendar options.
I think Sony made a great move by getting rid of SonicStage, I finally feel I've found the player I've always wanted. Bottom line, if this is your first mp3 player or you are just sick of mediocre software for music transfers, look no further, this is the one you need.
PROS
- Drag-and-drop, no software needed! - Ability to create/edit folders, playlists from the Windows explorer - Design - Crisp Screen - Lightweight
CONS - Limited amount of video formats, only .mp4 supported - No Voice recorder - No accessories in the market yet."

What's great about it: 1. Great Sound. 2. Very good headphones included. 3. Easy navigation and controls. 4. compact size. 5. Speedy What's not so great: 1. No FM Receiver, 2. Not many accessories available yet.
"This MP3 player has the best sound of any I've tried. It also has 2 customizable graphic EQ's. This is what really seperates it from the iPod or Zune (both of which lack customizable EQ). The sound is really first rate, and more lively than other players I've tried. The included ear buds really are solid, and don't really warrant an upgrade unless you are a pure audiophile. Navigation is easy and fast, and the controls included dedicated buttons for: volume toggle, "back", "menu", and "hold". It is very solidly built, and has great battery life. Also, I started cutting and pasting songs right to the memory without having to worry about installing software....it couldn't of been easier. This player doesn't have voice recording or an FM radio (the 600 series has this, but at the sacrifice of size and weight). These feature are not important to me, personally. I wanted an MP3 player that did its core function well...namely play great sounding music. This model does not disappoint."

What's great about it: Small, best earbuds I have ever seen, easy to use, great sound. What's not so great: No case for it!
"I bought this MP3 player for my husband for Christmas. I have never had a MP3 player so needed help with features, recommendations, etc. Went to a co-worker who brought me to BestBuy online. Found the Sony, have owned Sony products before, liked the looks, features, and price. Couldn't locate a case. Called the Fort Wayne, IN store for some help. A very friendly woman found a case and placed the whole order for me. My husband loves the MP3 player but I was terribly disappointed that the case actually was for an iPod. Way too big but had a foam piece to help it work. It barely works for carrying at work but he does love the player. Would definitely recommend the MP3 player but pick out you own case!"

"I love this MP3 player! My teenager and preteen love this MP3 player more than there own I-pods! Need I say more! The only problem is that I have some problem finding accessories designed specifically for this, however, there are many things it is compatible with (you just have to take it with you when shopping. Definitely download Media Manager for Sony Walkman! It is much easier to use than Window Media Player. I can't believe the price is so much lower than other MP3 players that are comparable! You can't go wrong with this player."

"Received this for Christmas and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Upgraded the earphones, but the ones that come with it are good, just too big to fit comfortably in my ears. So far I've got 250 songs and still have around 2.4 GB free. The only problem I've had is that every picture that's in my picture folder in my computer went into it. Took over an hour to remove them because I could only delete 2 at a time. I use Windows Media Player for my music playlist and it couldn't be easier."

"I'll keep this short and sweet. I "upgraded" from a 30gb hard drive player because I wasn't happy with the sound quality and all the buzz online pegged the new Sony walkmans as having possibly the best sound in a mp3 player available. I've only been using the Sony for around 4 days but I can definitely say it lives up to the hype, it sounds just amazing! If you're looking for a personal media player to load your entire library of music/movies/tv shows and use as a personal media player get an iPod or Zune. If you want something easy to carry for just playing music I don't think anything on the market will do it better than these Sonys."

"I have had several MP3 Players and spend several months researching them before I came to the new Walkman from Sony. I have to admit that I am not usually a big Sony fan, but this was the best player out there. The standard headphones would cost over $50 if you purchased them alone, not the $3 ones you get with other players. Sound Quality, Battery Life, and the Speed and ease of use of the interface got me. The Best player out there."

"This is a great MP3 player. Easy to use, great sound. Loaded a couple of hundred songs and four movies and still had space to spare. Used it on a 14-hour flight to Japan (watched 2 movies and listened to music the rest of the time) and didn't use up the battery. The earbuds that came with the unit are excellent and actually better than several others I had purchased (even noise-cancelling earbuds). It is very easy to navigate, very intuitive. The display is excellent for watching movies. I would recommend this to anyone."

What's great about it: 4.9 rating in 21 remarkable performance! What's not so great: FM tuner and recorder would have been a plus.
"Sold on the Sony Walkman. Third one I've bought since online researching all, testing in stores, and playing other brands the family owns intergrated with my sound systems and CPU's via USB, mini jack (3.5 mm). Trust me once you listen to the fidelety you'll also be hooked. Has all the features most would like. Digital image and video management a breeze. But the music is it's strength with EQ settings and virtual sound settings. The battery life is amazing...relative of the energizer bunny. Now a few comments on what could be improved or added from my perspective. 1) FM tuner, 2) 4-8 GB music player only. However, Sony makes a 1-2 GB music Walkman with FM function and recorder. But the BestBuy prices beat Sony prices, so I buy here. The Sony leather case, however, should be considered to compliment the Walkman. Oh I almost forgot, the Walkman is wifi capable with an adapter fit to the connector port!"

"Wow! This MP3 player is amazing. I purchased it 2 weeks ago and I’m truly impressed with this product. I compared the stock headphones with 2 different sets of BOSE headphones and the sound quality was comparable. Don’t waste money buying extra accessories. I’ve been playing this thing non stop and the battery life hardly goes down. In addition, the button response is extremely fast. You will not be disappointed with this purchase."

"Project conclusion: Creation of a low cost, high power PMP Personal Media Player System (Device and PC based Management System). I've spent over 100 hours researching, testing and troubleshooting. I wish the following had been available to me. 3 PMP's evaluated and tested: Sansa e200 4gb Sony Walkman 4gb Samsung T10 4gb 2 Media Players evaluated: Windows Media Player 11 and Winamp FINDINGS: MAJOR ISSUES TO WATCH FOR: ***** VIDEO, unlike audio is NOT OBVIOUS TO EVALUATE. NOT ALL PMP'S ARE EQUAL!!!! NO ONE WRITES OF THIS AND NO SALES REPS SEEM TO KNOW. Only the Sony was drag and drop compatible for mp4 and wmv files; yet all seemed to say that they were! The Sansa converts files to .mov quicktime at about 600mb per hour of playtime. Native mp4 or wav files are about 300mb per hour. The Samsung converter is 100mb per hour AT THE SAME QUALITY. The Samsung 4gb machine can hold 30+ hours of video; the 4gb Sony HALF THAT; and the Sansa 4gb HALF THAT!!!! Nobody that I can find even discusses this issue!!!! ****** FEATURE PRICE FOR PMP: AT $120-130 EACH - Sony Walkman * Sansa features: Player, Video, and I think one of them had a radio. SAMSUNG T10: Radio, 3-6X the hours of video, Radio, RECORDER, TEXT VIEWER, CLOCK. Note: Samsung converts video to .SVI - proprietary. Who cares!!?!?!!? It accepts all standard input formats and only takes about 10min per hour of video to load to the T10 ^^^^^^ EASE OF USE OUT OF THE BOX INTEROPERATILITY - -With this post and the ones I've posted at Winamp- all 3 PMP's pretty equal; WMP11 much easier, MUCH LESS POWERFUL that Winamp. -Except, the drag and drop of the Sony is a very strong feature if, unlike me, you are at your PC every day and can select and load your files that frequently. I need the far greater storage capacity of the Samsung T10 at the same price. I can tollerate the 10min per hour of video load time - overnight! MEDIA PLAYER: WMP11 has it way over Winamp for plug/play/simplicity of operation. HOWEVER, had I known what is now in the posts above - NO PROBLEM! "I bought this after seeing the ad in the Sunday paper. I was looking for a MP3 player since the one I got earlier would not hold the charge, and had to return it. I read all the reviews on BestBuy's website and decided to purchase it. I was completely blown away with this player. It is all that everyone said it was. I was amazed how easy it was to setup and use. The sound is awesome. The earbuds are also good, but I already had the Bose earbuds, and the sound with those earbuds is off the chart. I would highly recommend this Walkman to anyone. Thanks Sony for a great product."
