What's great about it: I can delete music straight from the device
What's not so great: Short battery life when continous play

"Overall it is great, I had the smaller one that I gave to my daughter. I wish they would come up with a larger storage format. I haven't had any major problems yet."

What's great about it: It last if you can find a cover that fits
What's not so great: The firmware is horrible, instructions are poor and the Rhapsody music catalogue is limited.

"I had a e280r stolen so I purchase a 16G View to replace it. The new View froze up on me and I couldn't turn it off or switch to other features. I took it back to Best Buy and decided to purchase a 8G View instead.

I spent over two weeks loading over 1K songs into 20 playlists. A week later half of them disappeared from the playlists, though they remained in the View.

I contacted tech support, was told to update the firmware (which I did), unloaded all the songs and reloaded them again. Two months later the same thing happened again. Now I'm stuck with this piece of junk which is totally useless for what I needed it to do.

What's ticking me off is that a month after everything started working properly I recommended this thing to a couple of friends. They also purchased a View, and now we're all experiencing the same problem.

I will NEVER purchase one of these players again!! Though I hate to convert to Apple, Sansa products have left me cold and forlorn!

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: It freezes up. it lock up. You will be on the phone with Cust Ser all the time. You will always have to format it,

"Just dont bother buying it. You wll be on the Cust Ser every time you connect it to you PC. The player is connected to your PC more than you are listening to it . It's just no worth the aggravation...do youself a favor and buy an APPLE."

good in some ways   08/03/2008
By modestmouse55 from Massasachusetts

What's great about it: easy to use, hard to break
What's not so great: it froze once on me, rhapsody was a little hard to work with

"The sansa is a good product because it is very simple to use. I dropped the sansa 3 or 4 times and when I picked it up it was shut off, but once I turned it back on it still worked fine. The bad part about it is that it froze on me once because I was using multiple settings at one time so that was mostly my fault. Also rhapsody was a little hard to work with at times but I figured it out eventually. Other than that it is a good product.(:"

Great Ipod alternative!   08/02/2008
By GoOakland from Richmond, VA

What's great about it: it offers every thing ipods do(and more) but for much cheaper
What's not so great: firmware is horrible

"If your looking for an mp3 player but don't want Ipod then this is great. It is by far the best bang for your buck. It does more than Ipods(like has radio, expansionable memory for example) but is way cheaper. The onjly thing that I don't like is the firmware. Sansa has yet to make a good firmware for this unit...there is an ok one but it still needs touch ups. Overall a great product!"

Less than 1 year of Use   07/04/2008
By allister from atlanta

What's great about it: Plays Movies, Pictures, Music, FM Radio, Voice Recorder
What's not so great: Broke after 6 months

"All was good until today. I bought this in Jan 2008, and I babied this player. It was in a case and still looks new today.
I pluged it in to synch and transfer a movie and my PC won't recognize the player. I reformatted, Reset and called Sansa. They said it was broken.
Waiting on my RMA and my gift card, but now I don't know what I'll buy.
I had good luck with Sansa, but the last 2 players turned out to be garbage.

Great Player for the $$$   05/13/2008
By JoeyBallGame from Maryland

What's great about it: Great new design, video, expansion bay, largest capacity for $$$
What's not so great: Second unit on PRP, Firmware needs updating out of the box...

"After sorting through the bugs and a trip back to Best Buy for another unit, and after an update on the firmware, I'm very impressed with its performance... Except for the small delay between tracks. The specs state, "No gap between songs for smoother playback" is not true.

The video is incredibly bright and vibrant... The function is fast and a little easier to use then the 8gig e200, probably due to the new selection (interaction) wheel that is new for the Sansa View. I haven't tryed the radio function and probably never will with the gobbs of music you can rip on to this device. I love the drag and drop feature, it's very fast with a 2.0 USB connection...

Hats off to Sandisk, great product...

good for music   05/02/2008
By frogsbass from Salt Lake City, UT

What's great about it: great for music
What's not so great: erases music and steals memory

"I got this for my birthday in august of last year and it was great for a while. It doesn't have enough memory for videos and music but it was amazing for music. It deleted my music and held the memory as if they were still on there. I was good after that. If someone was to want something for just music then get this but if you want video then choose something else."

By AWCISME

What's great about it: Works very well for me. Loads music and video with no problems
What's not so great: None so far

"I bought the 16 gig model and love it. I have had it a couple of weeks now and personaly have had very little problems. I had a little trouble loading it with Windows Media Player, but when I installed the Sansa media converter, I have had no problems. Works great with Napster to go too. I have a new computer with Vista Ultimate, for reference."

Tired of returning these   04/27/2008
By Nyeballs from Salem, OR

What's great about it: Great features when they work
What's not so great: 3rd return, screen freezes, locks up

"Bought the 4G for my son, worked great, got stolen. Purchased an 8G, froze up after several months. Returned w/product replacement plan. Purchased a 16G that froze up in 18 days, took it to store for direct replacement since under 30 days. Now the replacement 16G is freezing up. Now the selection wheel is stuck on music but won't open to let you select anything. Basically not usable at this point. Just filed a claim thru product replacement program. Glad we purchased the PRP or we'd be out of luck. Think we're going to try a Zune out this time."

Don't buy it...   04/09/2008
By threedayrespawn from CA

What's great about it: Cheap, works well (for a while)
What's not so great: Pain to download music, strange error messages, and just plain not working.

"I got this to replace an older 8gb Sansa e280r. I sent that back because it had some audio problems and download issues.
I bought this with the store credit, plus a bit more. It worked great for about 4 months or so. The device itself is fairly easy to use, and downloading the tracks to the device itself is as simple as drag-and-drop. My gripe with the charger is that there is no other way to charge it than with the included USB cable.
I figured that the bugs that frustrated me with the e280 would be worked out by now, so I went with the 'refined' Sansa View.

They're not.

The download service is still spotty, requiring me to go into the music guide, click the download buttons for the songs, sign out, close Rhapsody, open it again, sign in, and download the songs from my library in groups of no more than three at a time. This is, as you might imagine, rather frustrating when I'm trying to download a large number of songs at once. Even then, some songs just won't download.
The player itself is also a little spotty. I haven't personally had any of the durability issues I've read about in other reviews, but that could likely be because the software died before the hardware could.
After about three and a half months, it started to state that I should "Synchronize to continue your subscription". This was right after I had synchronized it overnight to charge. I tried formatting and reloading all the music, and I tried removing and putting the player back on my subscription. I even tried running the battery into the ground, and then charging it up again. It's being sent back tomorrow. I am unsatisfied with the Sansa players overall, and the download service is clumsy. Stick with Apple.
"

great when it worked, but died 4 times!   03/22/2008
By mxsurfergirl from Redondo Beach, California

What's great about it: Very easy to navigate
What's not so great: Serious issues with loading music, freezing up, just not working

"I bought this insted of an iPod thinking it would be a better buy; I was very wrong. The first one out of the box was a defective model; loaded the softwear it came with and plugged in device to the computer and froze up. I took it back and got another one. The second I had trouble getting my music subscription to work on my computer and tech support finally got it synced. Then about a month later I plugged it into my desktop and it froze up, the third one. I had to take that one back and get a fourth one. That one also lasted about a month before the softwear was bad again. After spending two hours with every 1800 help number and they could not fix it, I had to take it back.

Although, if it does work on your computer and it doesnt give any issues, this is a great little lightweight device. Very easy to navigate internally and delete images and songs with a scroll down menu and delete option is great. When it worked I enjoyed it but too much hastle for me.

A very good buy   03/12/2008
By hotwan from houston,tx

What's great about it: excellent sound, especially with audiobooks
What's not so great: using the rev and ff features

"I bought my sansa view to download books, since I'm an avid book reader and listener. I can listen to audio devices at work, so after researching with my husband to find a lighter way to carry an audio device at work while typing all day, we decided to try the sansa view. It was was best decision ever. I've enjoyed mine so much that after work I come home and listen some more. I purchased the armband and I can do everything with it including cleaning the house. This is really a great mp3 player."

Just did not work for me...   03/10/2008
By tonjav from Tallahassee

What's great about it: price, size
What's not so great: Vista issues, shabby construction

"I wanted this item to work in spite of the other reviews. I started out with an 8gb that would not be recognized by my new Vista 32 bit computer. I also tried it on an XP computer as advised by tech support and it still would not work. Tech Support told me to return it. I did and got a 16gb. Same problems! Again I was told to return it. I got another 16gb. Same problem!! Sansa did not seem to be concerned about the fact that I'd had 3 players that were not working out. They just kept telling me to take them back. To me, that indicates awareness by Sansa that they know their product might not be solid.
I was on with tech support from Sansa and Microsoft and HP from 9:30am until 4pm (I was so frustrated that I had to take a day off from work to try to fix this!) when I'd had enough! I was provided a Hotfix from MS that wouldn't install on my Vista after 6/7 tries. Sansa support tried to help but in the end they could not explain or help with the player/Vista incompatibility issue. We tried setting it to the other mode, formatting, installing and uninstalling until my new computer got out of whack. Sansa eventually said they'd note the problem since the issue was one they were trying to resolve.
I envy those who made this product work. I had a Creative Zen Sleek before and decided to try Sansa when Best Buy stopped selling Creative. Ipod does not appeal to me as I use Yahoo music service for about 1/2 of my music. So after 7 days of unsuccessfully trying to make the Sansa View work, I returned the player. I will be going back to Creative.
I will say that the Sansa tech support was nice and available even if they could not help me.

could be great. limited by poor firmware   03/08/2008
By mp3user

What's great about it: lots of space. fun to play with videos. easy to add mp3s with windows media player.
What's not so great: mp3 do not track correctly with display time. gets off track when rewinding. very slow RW & FF. short battery life.

"I've used this for about 10 weeks, and I've got mixed feelings about it. I like to use it, but it doesn't function like it should. Two firmware updates later, it's not right yet.
There are major problems when fastforwarding or rewinding mp3s.
When rewinding or fastforwarding, the time shown does not track correctly with the actual time of the file, so you end up not quite knowing where you are in the file. In a previous firmware, rewinding actually sent you FORWARD in the mp3 for about a minute and a half before it would start rewinding (even though the time display showed continuous backing up). A recent firmware update mostly fixed that forward jump problem, but the time tracking is still not right and very annoying if you're trying to listen to a lecture or podcast where you rewind or fastforward on occastion.
The rewind and fastforward functions go VERY slowly. FFW is only 8x normal speed. So fastforwarding into an audio book or a lecture to a point 40 minutes into the mp3 will require you to hold fastforward for about 5 minutes. Rewind is even slower, and erratic. Unlike my previous mp3 player, the user cannot adjust the FF and RW speeds.
A recent firmware update has drastically reduced battery life. (A full charge today only gave me a few hours of mp3 audio playing time--nowhere near the 35 hours advertised.) No response from the company as to why this problem came about with the firmware upgrade.
Video plays SOME MPEG-4 files. Some MPEG-4 files come through as "unsupported format." I can't get mine to play WMV files at all. Fortunately, the user forum has some helpful suggestions to get (free) software to convert video files so they will play. These aren't major problems for me, though.
IF Sansa could fix the firmware so the FF and RW issues are fixed and undo the battery life problem they created with the last firmware update, this would be (will be?) a great player.
"

Quite happy so far   02/23/2008
By KPSIrish from San Diego, CA

What's great about it: Nice display, scroll wheel, compatibility with "open" online services
What's not so great: Learning curve for certain features

"Needed an mp3 player to use with the Rhapsody to-go service. Mainly for the gym, so wanted an FM radio. Once I realized the potential video features of current mp3 players, I went with the larger-sized view over some of the smaller sized players that had fewer video features and smaller displays.
After researching other brands (insignia, creative, sony), I settled on this one for a number of reasons...
vs. the insignia: Better mechanics (scroll wheel has a nice feel, insignia's button position near scroll wheel made them tough to use)
vs. the creative - better form factor (shape)
vs. the sony: integration with Rhapsody subscription music service.
We're also a three ipod house - while the ipod has a better hardware and software user interface (Apple's strength), you essentially have one option for downloading files - iTunes.
Other reviews have stated that it's complicated to use this device with other services - if your benchmark is the iPod and iTunes, this is true. Syncronization with Rhapsody was pretty easy, but it took some time to figure out how to use with Amazon Unbox for paid video downloads.
Owning this for a week, I've now downloaded and watched one video (Survivor wk2 downloaded from Amazon), the sound and video was great, but haven't yet figured out how to fast-forward / rewind, which leads to my UI comment above. Also downloaded a free Jericho episode, but got an "unsupported media format" message, which is interesting, since I downloaded it the same way as I did the Survivor episode.
Some comments on other sites referred to sound quality of different devices. I was very happy with the sound quality (using Shure E2c headphones on a flight) - good bass.
I'll also echo the comment about a currently narrow accessory selection - I was able to pick up a wall charger from my local Radio Shack, but haven't yet found a case/armband I can use at the gym. Guess I'll keep this in my pocket until the accessory options are more plentiful.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this device after a week. I was able to download subscription songs with Rhapsody, transfer some photos (also with Rhapsody), and download a video from Amazon Unbox to watch on my flight. Sound is good, UI is good enough and it's still a nice size & weight relative to my old iPod 40GB.

good first one   01/27/2008
By Yeti from Fort Wayne, IN

What's great about it: small, plays videos, nice screen, recording, radio
What's not so great: online help, specific formats, structurally weak

"I got this for Christmas. It looked nice and the description made it sound good. I found it very deceiving.

One thing I notice right away was that it was poorly built. The faceplate was loose if it was touched or rubbed. On the good side, it does have a built in radio and recorder.

Online it says it can hold 4,000 songs, but I am only getting 500 songs and it says its filled. I went online to see if I can get any help, but there is none. I used to have the original iPod. It worked great until the battery went dead. It was old. I had 6 GB (1,000 songs) of songs on it. I believe the reason is that the Sansa View takes WAV files while iPod take MP4s (which is smaller).

Windows Media Player is, in my opinion, not as good as iTunes. WMP would constantly change my media info automatically even when I disabled it. WMP would lose some track info and album covers while transferring to the View. If it could accept MP4 format, it probably be a good MP3 player.

But for those in the market for a player, I say spend the extra $50 for the 80GB iPod Video.

not that great, but seems like it   01/24/2008
By ROCKSTAR1992 from SEATTLE, WA

What's great about it: great preview, easy to use at first, large
What's not so great: bad reviews, slow an unclear software, unhepful help guide

"well, basically, i got this new player for Christmas an thought it was amazing...but then when it came to using the new software it was horrible. at first, it wouldn't adjust to my computer, then it wouldn't really synchronize my music ( even though it was saying that it was on my computer) an it often times cut off my free trial subscription. it was very disappointing. the only way that i could get my music to play was to wipe the player completely clean an start over again an now that won't even help. the company really should possibly find another media feed to work with or fix the issues that are presented on rhapsody, otherwise, this would be an amazing product."
