What's great about it: Beautiful like all Pioneer Elite components, plays with ease What's not so great: Very Heavy, a little expensive
"I had a Sharp Aquos for about 3 weeks. It had trouble reading several BD's I rented. The Pioneer plays them all and has a much more vibrant picture and better sound than other players. Even regular DVD's look awesome my top of the line Toshiba 52" LCD. Spend the extra money and get the best player on the market."

Great Blu Ray Player
08/08/2008
By Gustav01from Raleigh, NC
What's great about it: Everithing. Great picture, Great sound. What's not so great: Price.
"For those posting that this player doesn't play close encounters or doesn't go well with jaba blu ray disc, think twice and please ask first. I do have this player and it plays all kinds of movies ever close encounters of the third kind. Just do the update and get the lates firmware. This is a problem blu ray has been having for a long time but it is fixeable if you get the latest versions of firmware for your player. The Pioneer BDP 95FD is the best or one of the best players out there. No doubt. It performs very well and quality is just present in every single detail."

good purchase

What's great about it: Plays every type of disc imaginable (with the exception of HD DVD of course!) What's not so great: expensive
"First, I will tell you that this player is very expensive compared to some of its competition. But, once you get it home and get it hooked up, you will appreciate your purchase. It plays almost every type of disc imaginable in addition to just Blu Ray. From all CD types and all DVD types, it seems to handle them all without a hitch. One of the best features is the ethernet connection. Plug this straight in to your router and you can quickly complete a firmware update within a short period of time. This is a much easier procedure than many of its competitors that require you to go to a web site, burn software on a disc and then upload it into your player and with technology always changing, updates with these types of players will be a regular thing. Its nice to know you can leave it plugged in to a router at all times and, with the ease of a menu selection, see if you are running the current software version for your product. The player can be set on many different picture and audio qualities and can be set to the highest industry standards. You will not get the most out of this player though unless you have it hooked up to a 1080P television with the best quality HDMI cables (HDMI cable is not included with your purchase) as well as sound cables. It will still look and sound good with other equipment, but if you are going to spend this kind of money, you need to go ahead and spend the extra on the best cables you can get to make your product something you will really be happy with for years to come. The look of the product is great, but it is rather large compared to others. Make sure you have enough room in your entertainment cabinet first as you do not want to get it home and find out that your cabinet doors will not close due to the size of the unit. The upconversion of regular DVDs is very, very good as well. The player will take longer to power up and load movies than your standard DVD player, but this is to be expected for this technology. The short wait time is well worth it to see the ability of the player. In short, if you already know you are ready to get one of the best Blu Ray players on the market and are not afraid to spend this type of money, take the plunge! You will not be disappointed!"

Slow and unable to load some movies

What's great about it: Looks nice, Great upconversion, Cat 5 connection What's not so great: Some BluRay movies won't play, slow load and power up
"Well the player is ok. Upconversion is great. but some Blu-ray movies - Ratatoulle and Close Encounters won't play at all. I even did the firmware update and still nothing. It freezes too. Poor quality for such a high price. Go with sony or samsung"

Not your typical Pioneer Elite
12/12/2007
By bullsharkfrom SoFla
What's great about it: Supports TrueHD and DTS-HD as Bitstream. DLNA network support, HDMI 1.3 What's not so great: Doesn't do well with Java
"Everything is first class except the execution of java. Titles with lots of java like POTC or Ratatouille take forever to load. Less expensive players execute and load Java menus in much less time suggesting that this player just doesn't make the bar for the 'Elite' class, or it's premium price unless you just want beautiful components that match and integrate perfectly with your Pro 150FD and your VSX-94TXH.
There will be more, not less Java on titles going forward. Producers expect network connectivity to permit refreshing of trailer materials.
Slow java support will just get more and more aggravating over time."
