What's great about it: Easy set-up and great sound

"I been looking for speakers for my Ipod Touch, but didn't want something cheap. Those have terrible sound quaility. My husband and tried this one out at the store and was very impressed with the sound.

We brought it home and put it in the bedroom. The music fills the room with no problem. I only need to put the volume at 6 or 7 and it's really loud.

I am very happy with this purchase."

What's great about it: Great sound quality, attractive style, did I already say Great sound quality - awesome!
What's not so great: Wish the speaker wire was removable from the satellites, some resonance from the sub at high volume

"I dont usually write reviews, but for this product, I am compelled.

I have owned other docking units - some much higher priced. When selecting this unit, I was fortunate to be able to use my own music (variety of genres) and compare side-by-side with other units, including a Bose model. This outclassed the other units by far in terms of features and SQ.

The sound from other stations can be tinny or overly bright. At high volumes, other stations butcher the detail, and there is only a flat sound stage.

The way I would descibe the sound from this unit seems like I am writing about some high-end system. It is what it is!

* Ideal for near-field listening, although it will fill a small room nicely.
* Superb bass for the product class
* Amazing sound stage (Big sound, seperation of instruments, "3D Feel")
* Flexible placement options with seperate satellites
* Convenient remote

I would hate to think of this happening, but if the speaker wire gets damaged, then I will be out of luck. The wires are permanently attached to the satellites. This would have been the one small feature which would have rounded this product off perfectly.

I am not an overly obsessive audiophile, but I also don't mind trading money for great sound reproduction. I assure you, even if you are an audiophile, you will think you should have paid much more for this unit. At around a c-note, this will be a product you will appreciate much much more.

This last small part for those of you who know SQ is very personal and subjective but who want a description: warm, rich, not overly bright, but no "airy" highs either. Bass is clean and tonal, but not does not slam (but does not thud either - not muddy or single-noted at all). Clean mids. Overall very full and not even close to fatiguing."

What's great about it: Sound guality, volume, looks, wired speakers so you can set the where you want and built in sub
What's not so great: don't know yet

"This is a great system especially for the price, i have one of the Sony shelf systems with the 8 in. sub in my room but didn't want to bring that big system to my dorm room for college. Also its too loud for a dorm anyway, so i got this system for my birthday in September and it has been perfect.

It has very good sound quality for the size and when you get the volume above the 15 range its pretty loud and the sub doesn't distort much unless you put the volume too high with the bass boost on. You just can't expect a 4 in. sub or whatever size it is to b that loud, but with that said the bass is really good for the system i was not expecting it to be so good, and is the right amount to compliment the volume of the two wired speakers. With that said this was perfect for my dorm because i could place the speakers wherever i wanted on my desk which helps alot.

My ipod is always charging on top of the dock and is used alot with the included remote. Also I chose this system because it has an auxiliary input with the cord so my laptop is plugged in all the time and i play music from my computer on the system also. I have even used the usb input because my music is stored on my flash drive and you can even change the song with the remote when using the usb input. Lastly the built in radio works well but i don't use it only because there are terrible radio stations at my school and i really don't like the radio anyway. I haven't used the alarm on it yet so i can't really talk about that but i'm sure it works fine.

Overall, a perfect gift for a college student like myself to listen to music. And is loud enough to have a bunch of people over in your dorm and still hear the music. Must buy for a student especially for only $110"

What's great about it: Startlingly great sound for its size
What's not so great: speaker wires a bit short and permanently attached at the speaker end, and what do I do with my left-over subwoofer?

"I almost passed this unit over without testing because it was so compact I expected to be "underwhelmed" by its performance. I needed to replace a JVC tabletop unit with larger satellite speakers and an optional 8 inch subwoofer I had connected to it. The JVC quit on me after 5 years and parts were not available to repair it. It had great sound and I was very picky about its replacement and expecting to have to pay several hundred dollars.

I was looking for a table top that would allow me to connect the sub I already have, so that makes for a narrow field of choices. The Philips has a built in sub in the main cube which I expected to be a huge compromise. I could not have been more wrong. The sound is incredibly good and considering its size, the performance is outstanding. The 3 inch satellite speakers are the equal of the small Bose cubes and the self-contained sub puts out a lot of bass that is very clean and not booming or muddy. The highs, especially are crisp from the satellites which compliment jazz or classical music. The bass boost works very well especially for lower volumes, but is probably not necessary at high volumes and may even be too much. I could crank up the volume to fairly high room-filling levels, expecting distortion from the small system, yet the sound is clean all the way up.

It is geared for IPOD playback and AM/FM and has no CD, but I have more recently found the IPOD to be more convenient than carrying around multiple CDs anyway from room to room. The well lit, clear front display and the cool-looking ring of blue light are eye-catching. This is my bedroom music system now and serves that whole end of the house with its volume capability. My main dilemma now is, what do I do with the left-over, now unneeded sub sitting on the floor?"

Dont Base a Book by its Speakers   10/01/2008
By one2punch

What's great about it: Beautiful design, Crisp Sound, Surprisingly Loud/Deep Beats
What's not so great: None to Speak of

"This is my first review on any website in quite a while, definitely my first for Best Buy. I just picked this little unit up today, quite blindly considering it was the last one without a test unit. I am writing this review in case others have this problem. I hate buying electronics blind, but today I took a risk. However, for some weeks I have been in need of a pop and play unit (without the hassle of booting up my TV system) to power my living room/dining room in my apartment. After reviewing this website, my two picks were this Philips and the latest Sharp micro-system offering.

The Phillips is solely an ipod/ usb device player. I was going to put "no CD player" as a con, however I bought the unit knowing its lack of CD. So, those who still use CDs a lot should look elsewhere. However, those who are comfortable and prefer the convenience of digital media, this is your unit.

The Phillips is gorgeous. It immediately catches the eye in a room. The Sharp is typical micro-system. The Sharp also had a cheap look with a very flimsy plastic ipod dock, and fake wood speakers. This immediately turned me off to the Sharp, despite its power specs.

Technically, the Phillips is insane at 30W. Someone told me to go with the Sharp over this unit because of the Phillips' small speakers. Although small, and admittedly computer speaker-looking, they both have woofers with an optional "super base/ DBB" mode. Needless to say, I dont use this mode all the time, but it makes the sound quality incredible for its size. Should you outgrow the speakers down the road (I doubt it), you can always get bigger ones (because the core is so pretty).

Also, and this was the deal-breaker for me, the Phillips has a universal usb port for usb devices. The Sharp did not. So, it came between the Sharp (which had a CD player but no real forward thinking), or the Phillips (with no CD player but certainly more progressive). I couldnt be happier with my choice. Not only does the Phillips power the intended area, it actually can be heard from every room of my apartment (and loud). The sound is very clear, with no static what so ever. I perfectly power the area around 10/15 volume, which I was surprised with. The bass is unreal, especially when you put on the DBB. Audiophiles and laymen alike will appreciate what this little baby can do.

I couldnt be happier with my choice. Those looking for a usb/ipod micro-system, look no further. And, btw, it works with Ipod touch right out of the box. Good luck!"

Super Sound!   02/28/2008
By robman from Houston, TX

"A few words to say here, but to sum it up, it's "Incredible". I am very particular when it comes to stereo systems and have never been willing to spend alot of money on Bose, so I always seek out Philips brand products, especially audio components. I have used them for years and have never been disappointed. The sound from this system fills an entire room and more and only takes up a very small amount of space. You'd think to look for a large system and huge speakers if you were to walk in and hear the music for the first time. It just delivers a super incredible sound, especially with Dynamic Bass Boost on. It topped even my own expectations, and that says alot because I'm very hard to please. I took mine to work and keep it on my desk. It's just that small that you can do that, but I can't really crank it up at work, so I'm bringing it home. I actually prefer to use this system rather than my home stereo with large tower speakers (really!). Even though I seek out Philips products, I did shop around and listen to other brands in the store, because sometimes even the best things fail. None came close. This one beats others in sound hands down, and it has some very nice features. It will not disappoint!!!!"
