What's great about it: Light in weight and priced competitively with other hardshell cases.
What's not so great: Substandard materials and lacks necessary storage capacity.
There are two big problems with this case. In the first place, it's made from plywood that uses "luan" (aka "Philippine Mahogany") for the plies and it only has three layers at that. Woodworkers know that plywood made from this is not high quality and will not last. In addition, most hardshell cases made from plywood use a five-ply.
I'm assuming Gator is using a 3-ply to lower the weight factor to keep the case competitive with hybrid cases.
The second problem it that this case lacks storage space. The only storage space is the little box in the neck rest.
Although I keep my Yamaha12-string in one of these, the only reason I purchased this case is because it was the only one the store had in stock that the guitar would fit into. If' I'd had a choice, I would rather have spent about $10 more for a hybrid case--which is lighter in weight, has four external storage compartments in addition to the internal one, and has shoulder straps for carrying.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Good Price, Very Solid Construction
What's not so great: Heavy
OK this is a hard-shell case and I only have a couple of things to say.
Good: It is well made, looks very nice, and it's inexpensive. The handle is angled for really good balance.
Not so Good: The lock seems cheap. I would prefer an eyelet that I could put my own TSA approved lock into. There's a small strap that keeps the lid from over extending that frequently tries to escape from the case as I am closing the lid.
This is not the case you want if you are planning to walk across the desert with your guitar in it's case. I mean really this case is one of the heavier ones I've seen, but if heavy means I get to my destination with a functional guitar, then it's worth it.

What's great about it: solid construction, positive latches, well padded
What's not so great: heavy
I've been looking for a good guitar case for a decent price, and this one fits both perfectly! Well built with secure latches and decent padding, all at a price that is not nearly as high as inferior cases at music stores. I haven't had it long enough to know how it holds up, but it appears to be very solidly constructed. The only downside is that it is quite heavy, but that's a price I'm willing to pay to protect the guitar.

What's great about it: High quality and affordable, very solid
What's not so great: Nothing
Bought it for my daughter for Christmas, it is wonderful. Very solid construction and very nicely padded inside, will protect her guitar for a long, long time.
