What's great about it: Get a bigger screen for less What's not so great: its not an Ipod
"I recently bought this for my 16 year old daughter. And my 17 year old son. I have 2 sons! And 3 Daughters! Anyway, Some good things about this product, It has an excellent source of entertainment. Like, with music, storage, and a very stylish electronic device. One thing that is bad. You cant get i tunes on it. Obviously because its not an i pod! But thats what bugged my kids. Because, they wanted to beable to buy music on !tunes and they couldn't. So they just stick with buying new CD's. This is a good product if 1) you dont have picky kids 2) If you like bigger screens 3) you like to get good stuff for a cheaper price. Theirs many more to say but...it is a spectacular electronic device. Thank you for your time for reading this."

"So far my Zune 80GB Black is great. No trouble installing and using software at all. There was a software update and it updated itself for me. I have no trouble ripping(copying) a couple songs from a CD or the whole CD to my Zune software. Set up sync options (in settings) for "Let Me Choose" and you tell it exactly what to do and it does it! Sound is pretty good with the earphones that come with Zune. Let a friend who has an IPOD listen to it and he agreed that Zune has far superior sound and much bigger screen. I never owned an IPOD or any mobile MP3 type device and am no expert when it comes to computers. I figured it out very quickly. To get songs from online, Basically; you save a song onto you computer, drag and drop the song in your Zune music folder then plug your Zune in and copy(sync) all songs to your Zune device, Simple. If you erase a song from your software, the next time you sync your Zune it will erase from your Zune also."

"It took 3 days to download the software for using this 80GB Zune. Now the software refuses to recognize the Zune. I followed the recommendations provided in the management software - to no avail.
I will return this thing and buy an iPod."

"I bought a zune 80 in February. I was attracted to it from the get go as a solid ipod alternative. The Zune 80 has a nice design, a big screen. The Zune 80 has good battery life when listening to music but when watching videos the battery drains fast. Theres plenty of space for all the media you could want. The radio is a plus but its not that good at picking up signals. Recently I've noticed lag when I switch between menus. I would have liked for Microsoft to add a clock. Other than that the Zune 80 is a solid buy, definetly worth $250."

"I am very very dissapointed with the zune. Basically it goes like this.
You can not sync a cd to the zune without ripping it to your computer first.
If you do that, then delete the cd, the next time you plug your zune in. It will erase that cd off the zune.
So, every single song you want on your zune, must be on your computer.
I have 20 gigs of space on my laptop available for music. Thats 100 cd's, I have 350 more cd's that are not on this computer. So I can have a zune with 60 gigs of wasted space.

"I store everything in a lossless audio format and regardless of the device this is the best sounding I've used (players still sound different even if the format is "lossless"). Apple has a ways to go to catch the sound quality of this piece. Enjoy"

"Never had an Ipod, so I can not compare them. However, the zune is definitely worthy competition. 10 times better than the 30 gig. It works great with the zune software, fast music syncing. I have 300 full music cds, 20 movies including my wedding video and 350 wedding pics...with 65 gigs to GO! If you have a mixed music cd, you can add art work to it. Brilliant, big and bright screen. The touch pad is a great addition to the 2nd Generation Zune. Give it a chance, you will not regret it. The battery last 12-14 hrs for music playing and for movies it lasts maybe 4-5 hrs :-("

"I have never written a review for a product before. I bought the zune to be contrarian to the ipod masses; in general I don't really care about microsoft vs. apple. However, in this case the microsoft naysayers are correct: the software that comes with (and controls) and device is a monstrosity, making the zune a terrible product. Running the zune software will grind my otherwise healthy computer to a crawl; adding songs from the computer to the device is an arduous process, only because the "drag and drop" mechanism for adding songs works about 10% of the time. Upon exiting the software, at least 3 zune related processes persist until rebooting the computer, I could go on. If this review stops even 1 person from buying a zune, I feel like my life will have been worthwhile :)..."

"When i first got my zune i absolutley loved it but i havent had it for even a year yet and am starting to have problems when my zune is fully charged and im listening to it about ten minutes later it dies on me when not a second before i look at the battery and it says its fully charged thankfully i bought a warranty and am taking my zune back today to see if there is any way i can get this fixed. Besides this problem i absolutley love my zune the software was easy to download and use. i like how it has radio on it and the size of the screen is absolutley great! I have compared it to ipods and other mp3s and you just cant beat the size of the screen. So im hoping soon i will be able to actually listen to my zune for more then 10 minutes and i would have to say then i would have no problem with the product i have purchased."

"this is the worst music device anyone could ask for. I bought a zune for $250 at Best Buy and i was really exited untill i tryed to install the softwear. The softwear is unreliable and it takes a long time to download anything. I try to call for technical support and i rrecieved absolutly no help. Don't waste your money on a piece of garbage product like zune, you are better off with an ipod"

What's great about it: Survived international flights, traffic, and newphews. What's not so great: Not for the faint hearted (video)
"For reference, my zune prolly has more miles on it than my car, and I've owned several other similar products (ipod, sansa, etc)
Between flights from SEA-LAX-SYD, to traffic in the great northwest traffic jam, to nephews and nieces throwing it, to my dog thinking of it as (amazingly indestructible) chew toy, the zune has survived with nary a scratch or malfunction.
The play and charge times are excellent, the screen is clear and bright, and all functions work wonderfully, the sound is stupendous.
As for the negatives.
If you are a fairly new computer user, or your knwoledge of video formats (or converting them) is somewhat lacking - beware - unless your movie (why else did you buy a large screen player) is perfectly formatted - it will not work. Also be prepared for some fairly long transfer times.
all in all - fantastic product!"

"This is a kind of long review, but I hope its helpful...
I bought an ipod when they first came out a while back... so it was time to upgrade my mp3 player since I have wayy more music now. I was going to get an ipod, but figured I would try the zune since I have always been a PC guy instead of macs.... and I was kind of annoyed with itunes and the converting process when loading music onto my ipod.
Well, the Zune software in my opinion is horrible. I have a very organized music collection on my computer (rock folders, raps folders etc) each containing artist folders... and each of those folders contains each of the artists albums. For the Zune software, I have to select the two major folders on my hard drive (over 80 gb total)... and then find and delete the artists I don't want the software to sync with the player. There is an option for me to click and drag folders into the program, but when i click and drag... I cannot drop the music into the program (this is something you CAN do with itunes). So instead of painfully adding my couple hundred artists one by one, I decide to delete the zune library and start over. Next I go on my hard drive and delete a few Gb of music to keep the total under 80gb. After that I go back to the zune software to refresh my music library... and only 100 something songs are coming up out of thousands that should be there. After over an hour of messing with the zune software, reading generally useless forums trying to find help... I restart my computer, reinstall the software and it finally works. So now I sync the music in my library to the zune player itself... which takes a VERY long time. keep in mind I just bought a very nice brand new laptop about a half year ago (aka problem not caused by a slow computer). I actually fell asleep way before the zune finished synching... ughh. anyways, I WILL return this Zune and buy an ipod... probably a 160 gb, which is not offered by zune. It is just very disappointing about the software... the player is nice, but the look and screen size definitely does NOT outweigh the software, interface, and speed of ipods. And I will say this one more time... I have used PCs my whole life and I was looking forward to getting away from apple products... but in this regard (ipods, iphones etc... they BLOW away anything microsoft can produce. good thing for a 30 day return policy. if you are in the same boat I was, give zune a shot i guess and see if you like it, but if youve had an ipod before or dont have patience for horrible software... just stick with apple"

"i purchased my 30gb zune about a year ago. i was a previous ipod owner but was really disappointed with it. the zune hasnt given me half the problems my ipod gave me. the display is great, the zune marketplace is easy to navigate and the zune software is ridiculously easy use. i havent had much issues with it other than the battery life is a little weak, but not as weak as my ipods... i would highly recommend a zune to over an ipod for anyone searching for an mp3 player."

"I was thinking of puchasing an Ipod or a sony. I'm happy with my Zune. It is light, pretty thin, and not bad looking. I did not know how to download the software. It took some time to figure it out and to download. But once it was installed in my computer it was very easy to understand the procedures. The Zune took over and asked If I would like all my music and photos that were in my computer to be sync in my zune or if I would like to select certain items. Nor, did I have problems with syncing stuff from Utube or LWire. Everytime I placed a CD in the computer, Zune takes over and syncs it in automatically. I choose not to have the wireless option on, only because other devices can interfere with the zune. I have never had any problems with it, and never had to get it serviced. It has not stopped in the middle of songs. Battery life is good. I work out 3 times a week for an hour listening to my zune and in between I listen to it when I'm shopping, waiting in line for something, at my kids practices, or doing yard or house work. I charge it twice a week. Sometimes only once. I have had it now for six months and I still Love it. Because it holds so much, I am running out of space in my computer and had to purchase another hard drive. I take it every I go. I do not regret My Zune at all."

Biggest Dissapointment Ever!!05/22/2008

"I bought the Zune as a secondary Ipod/Mp3 because of the radio and seamless transfers of windows media onto Zune, Ipod takes a little more work to transfer Windows Formatted media unto it so I purchased the Zune Soley for video and its radio functionality... All I can say is thank goodness I purchased the service agreement from Best Buy because this is my 3rd device and it will not turn on, I have charged it fully, updated software to most current version and every other fix Zune Support reccomended... My first Zune cold booted every 5mins in the middle of songs, Annoying!!!! My second Froze up and would not turn back on, and My 3rd which is going back tomorrow morning has the same issue!! Will not Turn back on, On a full charge and Software updated to most current!!! I am exchanging it for the Ipod classic, I will deal with converting my windows media to wav. Its way less of a headache!"

What's not so great: shuts off
"I spent $260. for this Zune and I can't even play a full song. It keeps shutting off on me. I think there was one 15 minute interval before it shut off. Wow. Plus you have to use Zune software and even though a video will show up on your software doesn't mean it will transfer onto your Zune. I am asking for a refund. Not happy at all."

"I purchased an 80 gig Zune recently and I love it. One of my sons has an ipod and there is no comparison between the two. Zune has a built in fm radio - Ipod doesn't, Zune loads album art when you rip cd's - Ipod doesn't, Zune has wireless sync - Ipod doesn't, Zune has wireless sharing w/other Zunes - Ipod doesn't, Zune points are interchangeable w/xboxlive points - Ipod no, Zune very easy to use other sources of music & integrate w/Zune software, Ipod - must use Itunes software. Zune also has a bigger screen than 80GB Ipod and weighs less too. My younger son was going to by an Ipod, but after using mine and comparing them he decided to by a Zune as well. Great product! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to get the best MP3 player and the most for their money."

"I originally ordered the 30GB Zune, but it was always back ordered and seemed to never be available. I upgraded to the 80GB for a few more bucks and I could not be happier. The Zune Marketplace was easy to downlaod and navigate. I like the ability to sync the devices wirelessly, makes downloading podcasts and such much easier. It is fairly big, but with such a large capacity that is to be expected. However, for its size it weighs very little. Making it easy to take to the gym or on a hike. The ear buds that came with it were junk, but that seems to be par for the course with all MP3 players. Once I upgraded to the Bose earphones the sound quality is exceptional. I wish it would have come with power cordfor a standard wall socket. The battery does not last as long as I would like and the only way to charge is by plugging it in your computer. The navigation features on the front of the device is extremely sensitive. Making it difficult to control if it is in your pocket. However, it does have a 'key' lock on it so it is not a big concern. Overall I have been extremely happy with it and would recommend it to anybody in the market for such a device. I have also recently purchased the Zune Pass which gives you unlimited downloadable music for a month fee. I am even happier that I have the extra capacity now!"

"like i said before u need internet to setup the zune software. which is no big deal. im telling u for a heads up that u need to download the program off the internet. i really like the zune. its better then the ipods by far. when u put the cd into the cdrom drive the prgram will load up the album artwork off the internet. itunes wont do that at all."
