What's great about it: really good overall
What's not so great: i wish the story line was a tad bit better

What's great about it: love the graphics and effects, AOE at it's best
What's not so great: slow game play with minimum graphics card

"This is a great game. I love the graphics and all the detail in the system. This is a must buy if you're an AOE fan. The storyline may be short compared to some of the earlier ones but the card system gives the skirmish and deathmatch games so much more flavor. My only warning about this game is that if you have a low level graphics card, it will take some of the awe inspiring out of the game. You can still play it with the min, but be prepared for a slower experience and definately don't watch naval battles. All in all this is an awsome game and it's worth it to upgrade your graphics card to play this game.
As always the best buy is the gold edition. The expansion is definately worth getting the first time. Best price and another full storyline."

What's great about it: Many Diverse units and excellent graphics
What's not so great: slow on older computers

"This game is a great strategy game that allows you to build cities and armies. Mine for gold and rocks for resources, chop down trees, even send out fishing boats. This game allows you to build armies of enormous size with infantry, calvary. and artilery. Build walls to keep your enemies out. Towers, castles, and town centers are all possible buildings. You can make allies and build trade routes. This game includes mass amount of options that can easily keep you on the game for hours even when you are just playing against the computer. The game also features a great story line with many missions that are just perfect!"

What's great about it: Great online and solo play, great graphics, easy for anyone to play
What's not so great: demanding on older video cards

"AoE III Gold edition is easily one of the best in the AoE series. It includes great graphics and terrific gameplay. AoE III introduces a highly customizable aspect to the AoE game series with the introduction of Home Cities that play a major role while playing solo or with other players online. Veterans of AoE series will appreciate the addition of Treaties that do not allow fighting for as long as 40 minutes. This allows for a much more "build up, then fight" strategy which has been difficult in some of the older AoE games. There is also a variety of gameplay options that cater to "rush" tactics.
Overall AoE III and AoE III the war chiefs expansion (included in gold edition) is a great buy for just about anyone.
Oh and a word of advice for people with older video cards who still want to play this game. Go online to the official AoE website and read what they say about turning off all smoke particles (if lowering the graphics quality hasnt already worked). This should allow just about anyone to play the game without lag."

What's great about it: Excellent graphics...the water is amazing

"Great and fun gameplay!! Graphics are awesome...custom games agaist computer are the best!!! Buildings, armies, and the upgrades are cool as usual....overall good buy for the money"
