You know the hype... 07/24/2008

Pros: Great gameplay experience

"So Rock Band has gotten a lot of attention, and rightfully so. Plain and simple, Rock Band is an amazing game experience. Taking what made Guitar Hero fun, and adding more instruments, and therefore a stronger social aspect, RB elevates music games to another level. The set list, like any music game, is pretty subjective, but I feel Harmonix made excellent choices here. Keeping in mind that there must be a balance of fun factor for not just the guitar now, but also vocals and drums (plus bass...), they did a great job with the track selection. RB also has an excellent and very robust download aspect, and offers a huge library of songs, so you will no doubt find something to your liking. The only real downside to the game is some of the aspects involving the physical instruments. The drums are pretty good, just be easy on the pedal, but my main complaints would be directed toward the new Stratocaster guitar model. Though this new Axe looks nice, it doesn't feel as solid as any of the Guitar Hero guitars. The strum bar has a lot of slop, the whammy bar is also loose feeling, and the fret buttons can be really hard to get used to. Still, it is serviceable, but I would suggest using one of the GH3 Gibson Wireless guitars to get the most out of the game, and relegate the included Stratocaster to Bass duty.
Ultimately, Harmonix has made a product that is pure genius here, and is arguably the best party game ever made, not to mention one of the best, if not the best, music game ever.
(At this point, you may want to wait for the Rock Band 2 set, so you can get the new improved instruments, and just pick up the RB1 disc)"

Amazing Game, Outstanding Bundle! 07/22/2008

"This game is great, and the bundle makes it that much better. The bundle comes with a very nice guitar that has extra features that are not available on the Guitar Hero 2 or 3 guitars (However I do prefer the feel of the GH3 LesPaul, it feels more accurate while playing), it also has a cool Microphone that is quite sturdy and actually sounds decent. But the jewel of this boxed set isn't the Game, or the Guitar, or the Microphone, it is the killer Drum Set! If you thought playing Guitar Hero Was fun, wait until you get to play the drums in Rockband, or even better, wait until you get 3 or 4 people playing Rockband at the same time!
I took this bundle to work, and when we don't have customers me and my co-workers play the game off and on all day...we've even begun to let customers and their friends try the game out, it is so much fun. This game has levels upon levels of fun, cheer when you do great, or laugh at your friends when they fail a song.
This game has great music, there are dozens and dozens of songs included, not to mention the great tunes that you can purchase online and download through xbox live.
My 15 year old daughter and I have began singing the song "Maps" by the "Yeah Yeah Yeah's", I had never heard this song before playing the game, but now we walk around the house singing it all the time. This game is not only a very fun time, but it's music can either take you back to fond memories of the past, or help you learn about new and up coming bands that you might have never checked out had it not been for a videogame. Wow, that is amazing to even think about, a videogame introduced me to a great new band that I had never heard of before. -so cool-"

"Fun times with friends, it ends up making you become a musician even if you never were able to play an instrument. Adding new songs becomes a bit expensive, but it is a great option to have. I wished online play would allow you to battle against other bands."

"I don't know how this game plays on other systems like PS2, PS3 or the Wii, but it's pretty nice on the Xbox 360. The instruments are easy to figure out. The only problem I have is how loud the buttons click on the guitar, and how loud the drums are when hit, especially when you get into the game. I love the fact you can download songs like newer ones by Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Fall Out Boy."

"This is a great idea for a game and it
s controllers. My friends and I have had so much fun for many hours playing. We had a problem with the drum set not working and then the foot pedal snapping in two. Both were promptly replaced by the manufacturing co. so it wasn't that big of a deal. It is cheap plastic so now we've reinforced the pedal ourselves and haven't had any more problems since! Buy this and you will become addicted and fell like you really are in a band!"

Cons: first mic. didnt work and the replacment didnt either

"my friends and i have fun rocken and they bring over guitarhero guitars so we can have bass and lead guitar. the mic. didnt work twice so we just gave up on it and didnt order another one."

"i have played every rock band they made & i think that this one is the best but telling u now there is a difference of the guitar the strum is not like guitar heros guitar its not aclick every time you hit a note hit the note soft its not worth it to lose your guitar less that 2 months it sucks.
but the game is the best game i ever played i love it & i hope you are gonna love it too"

"this game is absolutley amazing.. no doubt one of the year's greatest games..i got it as a gift but its worth the 179.99 trust me. me and my family have had countless hours of fun playing this game you won't regret buying this game. if you have xbox LIVE there is even more fun to be unleashed you can play along side with your buddies in a co-op band play or you can go head-to-head and duke it out like true men...also xbox LIVE offers the oppertunity to download popular songs for a decent price...have fun with this game"

Great but Drum Pad needs work 06/22/2008

"Overall Rock Band is a great game. Its amazingly fun with multiple people or just by yourself. The online is also great. The online band is fantastic. One of the few problems I have with Rock Band is the Drum Pad. I could tell from the minute I took it out of the box that it was flimsy and probibly would not last very long. I was right in about a month one of the legs that held the pad at a resonable height had snapped. Maybe I rocked a little too hard or maybe it was poorly made. But I brought it back to the store and they gave me a new one on the spot. This second one is much more sturdy and I don't foresee any problems with this one. The other problem I had was with the guitar controller. I noticed that it was not very responsive but after a while I got used to it so I barely notice it until I play guitar hero. But other than those two problems the game is great and I would definatly recomend it to anyone!!"

Pros: great songs, fun to play, multiple instruments, TONS of cheep downloadable content
Cons: all controlers are wired

"this is a great game. all instruments are wired witch can get old if you have a large room. the guitar wire is about 8' long and so are the drums. the microphone cord is rather long and i would say around 18-20'. it sounds like a lot and yes i am telling the truth. the guitar hero controlers work with this game and i assume the upcoming drums for guitar hero world tour will to. the rockband guitar does NOT work with guiter hero. the rockband guitar in my opinion is better than the guiar hero one. it has 5 extra frets at the top of the guitar. you dont have to strum for the solos if you use the top five frets. the rockband guitar has a longer neck for more realistic play and it has four effects. you can also use the headset as and alternative to the microphone but it can be harder to play because the quality is not as good so it doesnt always reconize pitch. the game comes with a usb hub (used to conect up to four controlers). some say the game is to expensive but i disgree. a separate guitar hero guitar is $60 the game is $60 and a separate microphone is $40 right there you have $160. ten dollars short of the actual game then you have the drums which are $80.
p.s. a downloadable song is about $2 or 160 microsoft points and a pack of songs is 440 points or $5.50. some songs are 80 points or $1 and the pack for three 80 point songs is 240 points or $3.
p.s.s to find the U.S. dollar amount of microsoft points multiply by 1.25 and vise versa .80
p.s.s.s. you can buy a wireless rockband guitar for $60

"Rock Band is an awesome and fun game to play, especially on drums. Anyone of any age can play this game and still have a great time. My only complaint is the drums get a little unresponsive at times and don't look too realistic, but I don't really care about the realistic part. The songs are good, but not the greatest. Still, Rock Band is an AWESOME game. Not better than Guitar Hero 3, in my opinion :)"

"Rock Band has to be one of the best games I have ever played. I am not much of an "online gamer", but this game is so fun to hop online with either friends or people just by searching, and ROCK. It's also great to get with some friends and do Band World Tour, so fun getting your band on the Leaderboards. HOWEVER, the instruments it comes with can be a little cheap. So if you are looking to purchase this, get the extended warranty."
