"I have been a skeptic of universal remotes for a long time. I never saw one that could control every function of every device I own. The Harmony One fits all of my needs. I can finally put my 8 other remotes in the drawer. Basic setup is simple, just tell the software what devices you own and how they are hooked up. Basic use is very easy as well. One button for each activity (Watch TV, etc.) And after basic setup is complete, you can customize how each activity works, add/remove/customize any button and add favorite channels (with icons!). The ergonomics of the remote are fantastic as well.

If you want the perfect universal remote, Harmony is the One to buy."

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Nothing, as long as you have moderate tech skills to handle on-line set-up

"To start with, the ergonomics are great. The unit fits the hand like a glove. All the buttons are precisely where they should be - no streching or contortions required to reach a needed button. And the back-lighting is ideal for dimly lit home theaters.

As long as you can log onto the Logitech website to do the on-line set-up, the set-up is breathtakingly simple. The website guides you through easy and straightforward questions and magically makes the remote perform as if it has anticipated your every desire. If you don't have the tech skills to do on-line set-up though, this is not the remote for you - buy something simpler.
You do have to have the manufacturer and model number of every device you want to control. The Logitech remote doesn't just use the codes for any old Sony or Yamaha or whatever a/v receiver or DVD player, it loads the codes and functions of the precise model you own. Even the detailed and various digital soundfield commands that exist on modern 7.1 a/v receivers are automaticaly loaded into the Harmony One. After loading six devices into the remote, I only found one function I needed that the automatic set-up system had not already created. And it was very easy to add that function using the "learning remote" capability of the Harmony One. All functions are accessible either as hard buttons on the remote body or soft buttons on the touch screen. If they are displayed with soft bottons, the labeling of the buttons is nearly identical to what it was on the orginal remote.

Another thing I enjoyed: I have two Pioneer 100-CD jukeboxes, and I was able to load both of them onto the Harmony and still was able to operate them independently. The Harmony labeling system even enabled me to easily distinguish which jukebox I was using.

I have owned three other universal remotes, two of which were pretty expensive and supposedly sophisticated. None came close to matching the Harmony One. It is worth every penny of its price. You will wonder how you ever loved without it."

What's great about it: Does it all. Easy setup out of the box, almost unlimited customization potential. Fun to play with!
What's not so great: Fingerprints and if I could have the world, I would like a "clone activity" and "quick sync" feature.

"For the techno challenged, this is a slam dunk...Easy to setup out of the box. Go thru the setup screens, push the update button, sit back and enjoy. The extensive data base sets the defaults automatically with accuracy. Just put in your mfr/model info when asked during the setup process. If you can operate a computer in the first place, you can do basic programming on this remote.

Gadget geeks will find themselves immersed in fine tuning, just to see what other tricks you can teach this puppy to do. More fun than some video games.

I'm really picking nits when I say I'd like to clone activities and have a quick sync feature. It's tedious to build an activity from scratch. Example-I have two "listen to music" activitiies for the cable box because of all the favorites possible. I've separated it into "listen to cable music" & "listen to cable radio" (local stations). Same set-up and buttons. The only differences are the favorites lists. Also, when you make minor programming changes, the remote update goes thru a full download. It would be nice if you could do some kind of quick sync for small changes, that doesn't take as much time. These are very minor and only evident to the geek who's playing with the thing.

The charging cradle is slick and makes good contact every time. Adding channel icons really gives a professional touch to your favorite lists.

My wife is always leery of the next gadget I come home with. I set this remote up in private and did a quick test. Then I hid the remote collection (all 5), placed the One on the coffee table and left the house. I was pleasantly surprised when I came home and found Wifey watching her favorite channels in full surround sound. Scored extra points by having HER favorites programmed in advance with the official channel icons. (iconharmony)

What's great about it: Ease of set-up and use, clean modern design and rechargeable battery.
What's not so great: A little pricey but worth the $$ once you see what it can do.

"Very easy to set up with a PC or Mac. I was surprised to read some reviews that were on the contrary. It's ability to "learn" from other remotes makes it truly universal! Very intuitive design makes it easy to use for even the "non-remote savvy" members of the family. And if they have issues, the "help" feature guides them through it step-by-step to resolve the issues. The "slideshow" feature is cute to show friends and there are lots of ways to customize to your liking. I can literally do every function that I had to use six remotes for with this one unit. From an old VCR to my new BluRay and HD DVR, all my equipment works perfectly with this one remote. It's a great gift for yourself or someone else! I highly recommend this product!"

What's great about it: User friendly, easy setup, nice looking, rechargeable, lots of great features.
What's not so great: Will not control BT (PS3) but i did not expect it to, but there are workarounds (Blu-Wave).

"Rated this remote a 5 because it's just that great. This remote is well worth the price. Have tried other remotes but they all seem to fall short; this remote controls all my equipment (except PS3 BT) with no problems. Easy to setup and control. Love the touch screen features. Only regret is that I did not buy this remote sooner."

What's great about it: The only good thing I can say is it looks nice
What's not so great: Everything. It is difficult and time consuming to set-up and you still need your old remotes

"I thought this remote would be a life saver for my wife and kids. Finally something simple that with one touch of a button would set everything for them. Sounds great, but in reality does not work that way. I have spent over 8 hours trying to work on it including countless hours on the phone with customer service. I have a Panasonic TV, LG DVD recorder, Direct TV HD receiver, Sony CD player, and Yamaha receiver. For everything I always find that I need to pull out the units remote to get things set correctly. And for DirectTV, I never even got it working correctly. The Harmony never even brought up the guide menu.

After giving up on this remote, I went to the universal remote that came with my Panasonic TV. In less than 5 minutes, I had it programmed to control DirectTV and my DVD recorder. I am very upset at myself now for spending so much money on a useless gadget. I'd take it back, but I sent in for a rebate on it before actually trying it out. So now I am stuck with it.

Save your money and buy a blu-ray player instead. You will be much happier and not frustrated at all."

"The software walks you through the setup with ease. I setup 6 devices in less than 15 minutes. The touch screen buttons have a configurable sort order. If the remote misses a device it will prompt you asking if everything worked correctly and help you through the problem. This product exceeded my expectations."

"Purchased this remote for my wife, she won't watch our 56" Samsung 10080p TV with our HD DVR, the Samsung 5.1 home theater system and our Panasonic Bluray DVD on her own, she said it is too complicated for her to run. I will admit you need to understand the system and set the correct inputs for each device to get the most benefit from each. That being said, I needed something that would be extremely simple to use, visual if possible and goof proof. The Harmony One fits the bill. I gathered my manuals for all of my components, and wrote down which inputs were used for which function (watching TV or Bluray DVD), install the CD that comes with the remote and within a half hour my wife was watching whatever she wanted effortlessly with the touch of 2 buttons "Activities" (hard button on the remote) and her choice of "Watch DVD" or "Watch TV" as displayed on the touch screen of the remote.
Note - you must keep the remote pointed at your devices until they are all setup and running or the correct information will not be transmitted.
I would recommend this remote to anyone that has a moderate to very complicated A/V system to control, it will be simple if you understand how your system works with the original remotes. I have not setup other options like presetting my favorite TV stations, or setting up a separate button for turning "Captions" on (my wife is hard of hearing) but I am sure it will be very simple. I love the feel of the remote and the charging cradle is great. It back lights when you pick it up and shut of the back light after a minute or two if you don't interact with it. pick it up again and it is backlit again, great for watching movies in the dark.

I would look around for the best price on this unit, while being a great accessory to your system, it is expensive at $249.99 suggested retail but you can find it at @199.99 or lower several places, I got a great deal at Best Buy and they have always treated me fairly."

"I wanted a universal remote so my wife could control power and settings on five components with the press of a button. The Logitech Harmony One does it perfectly. The basic setup is fast and easy. Adding favorite TV station buttons with custom graphics took a little longer, but the results are well worth the time. The color touch-screen is vibrant. I even added eight pictures for a color slide show on the display. This is an EXCELLENT product!"

What's great about it: Flexibility and establishment of ICON's for favorite channels direct switching.
What's not so great: None that I have found after 2 days.

"Very easy to set up, just gather info on devices load CD and run software setting up your devices then hook remote via USB and load activities. Great to control everything in my setup of DVD-R/VHS, DVD/CD player, Verizon box, Mitsubishi HD TV and Sony AM/FM Tuner/Amplifier.

Never thought one remote could do so much."

What's great about it: Fully customizable, Beautifully Designed, Feels Great in your Hand, Replaces all your other remotes.
What's not so great: A slight learning curve to fully utilize its potential

"What a great, no awesome universal remote. As it can control up to 15 different devices, this remote replaces every other remote you have. I even have it controlling my lighting setup! Initial setup is really easy as you simply follow the prompts on the Logitech website. This remote is replacing my Harmony 880 which I had for three years. The 880 is going to the downstairs theater where it will operate 5 devices. I had no problem in justifying this purchase with my better half since she was completely at ease with the 880. Her familiarity with the Harmony line was a no brainer. She just loves the Harmony One as it is even easier to operate than the 880. My kids have no problem as well as the entire family can operate it with no problems. Since I have the 880, programming was very easy for me. To the first time user, there will be a slight learning curve to really get out everything you need from the Harmony One. The time and effort is worth it in every sense. I simply can not imagine life without the Harmony One. The product is that good!! Not to mention, the One looks and feels just right. When friends come over to the house, they all want to play with the Harmony One. It is hilarious to watch. I can sum it up as follows. The Harmony One is the I-Pod of remotes. Some of my friends have purchased their own Harmony One after visiting our house. This is especially helpful when we go over to their house, as we know how to operate their remote. They come over to our house and vice versa. Now, if only they can add phone functionality to the next version..................I just might be on to something really good.

Enough reading, go out and purchase one of these. Your life will be forever changed. I guarantee it!!!"
