What's great about it: Set it and forget it (for the most part)
What's not so great: The manual's translation is so bad it is comical.

"We purchased this unit despite reading the feedback here for our new home in the end of September and I have to say it works great!

In fact this worked so great in my new home I bought one for my parents who were having black mold in the leaking 30 year condo, within one week the mold smell was virtually gone!

There are a few things to get used to, as in no dial to turn so the unit "kicks on", instead the unit will do so on it's own based on what humidity settings you have it on.

Also keep in mind that if the temp falls below 60 degrees ice will start to form and if the temp readout reached 32 or lower the machine will turn itself off for 3 minutes to spare the compressor.

A quick fix for this is to shut the unit off for a few hours to let that ice melt then kick it back on, works flawlessly.

I strongly recommend using the drain as well.

The unit isn't perfect, but does as advertised and for it's price it is a bargain. And if you get bored enough or need to liven up a party bust out the manual and read it aloud... an excerpt;

"when stop the model, please be noticed that you should restart it at least 3 minutes later, which is benefit foe the machine."

(That was verbatim.)"

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: everything

"water sensor was broken, it overflowed and damaged my floors. everything in my room was ruined due to water damage, and carpet ruined by mold... room can't be used due to the smell! continued using it until i was able to buy a different one. stopped working completely after the water incident, unit was not pulling out any water. unit is very cheaply made, and the owner's manual is a joke (written in some form of martian)."

What's great about it: It has automatic controls, shows current humidity and temperature
What's not so great: Bucket sticks when taking out to empty

"My old dehumidifier went on the blink, I was running around to stores looking, but this time of year dehumidifiers aren't on demand, so I was at the mercy of Haier, the only one that was available, and after reading some bad review, I was hesitant to buy it. It's been running for a week now, and doing a great job, I don't find it to be noisy as some people mentioned, It's only problem is when the bucket is emptied, it doesn't glide out nice and smooth, but that is my only fault I have found so far."

What's great about it: Has run 24-7 for almost 4 weeks without a problem
What's not so great: Buttons & 'documentation' are baffling and/or nonexistent

"Lots of hate for this unit, but maybe we just lucked out. Our house flooded almost four weeks ago and we ran around town looking for a dehumidifier to help with the cleanup. This was the only one we could find in stock in any store in our area (all the big box & home improvement stores were sold out well before we got to them). So we really had no choice in the unit we took home, but we've also not had any major issues with it at all. The thing has been running literally every minute of every day since 9/13. We empty the reservoir twice a day & it just keeps working for us.
Definitely agree that the manual is a joke & the buttons are either mislabeled or nonfunctional. We ended up just plugging it & turning it on - we had no other options, honestly, but so far it's worked out for us. It's bit noisy, but it's in our basement so not a big deal for us. Also, we slide a towel under the device when we remove and empty the bucket (it drips a bit when we do that). Given that we didn't get the optional extension hose & have to empty it at all, that seemed like a minor issue."

"One my second time trying to empty the water bucket the handle came off the side of the bucket and the water dumped on my epxensive woods floors. I can not get the handle to stay on the bucket now. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT."

"This product worked for only a few weeks. It condensed a few buckets of moisture then nothing. It ran all the time but the humidity reading went up to HI and stayed there. I manually emptied the bucket and it never condensed any additional moisture. It was very noisy from the begining. The instructions are very poorly written. I returned the product and would not buy another Haier product."

Buy the Frigidaire!! 08/27/2008

What's not so great: Works for one day only; loud

"We bought the 45-pint Haier and it worked great the first day, pulled out a nice full bucket of water. Then it didn't pull in anything. Being in extremely humid Florida - in the summer - this was odd (also in a ground-floor apartment). Because I had read some negative reviews, decided to try a different, little more expensive brand - definitely worth the switch. BUY THE 50-PINT FRIGIDAIRE! We've had it for about 3 months now, and it works beautifully! Air feels cleaner, no more mold smell, and with the recent tropical storm Fay that lead to our carpet wicking up water from outside, we emptied out full buckets at least twice a day. During typical summer days, we get a full bucket every 2-3 days (set at 60%). Trust me, and everyone else writing a negative review, the Haier doesn't work."

"I've had the unit a couple of weeks. The other reviews are right on the money. It runs all the time, is noisy, the instructions are poorly written and the humidity gauge is all over the map. It doesn't matter if the humidty level is set at 40% or 70%, it turns on every 2-3 minutes and shuts off after only running for a 1-3 minutes. I'm returning it. Based on my experience and the others listed here, this should be pulled from the shelves."

"Confusing directions--poor English translation. Bucket difficult to empty. Worked for only 1 day. Would not draw water out of the air after that, but made plenty of noise.
I hadn't had time to return it within the 30 day period. Threw away the packaging. Still, they gave me store credit. I assumed they had been having problems with the product and the company.
AVOID."

Buyer Beware! Do Not Purchase! 05/16/2008

What's great about it: It has a nice white finish.
What's not so great: Does not work at all.

"I totally agree with sparky2708. I bought one of these and returned it because it only collected a few drops of water over the course of 2 days at 70 degrees and 70 percent humidity, with the machine running constantly. The machine also is fairly loud for only pulling a small amount of water out of the air. I could not talk to someone using a normal voice level in the same room as the unit. I thought I happened to buy one that was damaged, so I exchanged it for a new one. The same thing happened with the new one, so I am returning it later today and not exchanging it. Just wasted my time and gas driving to and from the store. Now I'm back to square one. Bottom Line: Avoid this product. DO NOT BUY!!! I would give less than one star if it was allowed."

Broke after 2 weeks! 05/11/2008

What's great about it: cheap
What's not so great: worked for 2 weeks then stopped, no operating instructions, no sq ft coverage info in spec

"Dehumidifier has a lot of features including timer, etc. but manual doesn't say how to use any of those features it so you have to be creative to figure it out. Worked for 2 weeks and then I noticed that it has trouble maintaining 50% humidity in the basement (could maintain 45% before) and it was on all the time. Checked the water pan and there was not a drop of water while it was running for a week. Not sure why it was running the entire week and there wasn't a drop of water in the pan. Glad I was able to return it. Wouldn't buy it again."
