"bought this AC in June 08,,, had it on for 3 months (june,july aug) i live in NYC! then i went to put it back on in june this year & it just never worked again. customer service was the Worst!!! i had phoned at the end of june 09,, & had bought it on june 8th 08,,, so had past the years warrenty,,,,, anyway a valuable lesson to me,,,, never buy Haier again!"

What's great about it: The REFUND What's not so great: Where Do I Begin?
"This A/C seemed like a good buy for all the features that it comes with. On the display rack it got very cool and seemed quieter than most models. I purchased it with only the manufacturers warranty. I lugged it home and proceeded to follow the 'assembly' instructions which should actually be called 'dis-assembly' instructions because it instructed me to take the whole darn thing apart. After two days, lots of screws, and some creative reinforcing on the window (because the unit is way to HEAVY for the size window it fits in) my handy husband and I had it installed. We turned it on and THE UNIT DOESN'T COOL! left it on all night on the A/C setting at 61 degrees and the room got 2 degrees cooler. SO I call the manufacturer. They tell me that it happens all the time. I have a 1 year replacement warranty. Goody. They tell me that I have to pay $15.00 and wait 30 days for a replacement to come. I am taking it back to the store for a refund and buying something else. NEVER BUY THIS PRODUCT unless you enjoy a good headache or want to punish your husband."

What's great about it: Once you finally get it installed, it actually cools the room What's not so great: Horrendous installation process and cheap materials
"There shoud be a big warning sticker on the outside of the box regarding the installation process. The thing has to be disassembled and then reassembled. The metal housing is very cheap and bends and dents easily. I will certainly register the product for the warranty because I have little confidence that the performance will be any better than the shoddy construction."

BAD, BAD, BAD CHOICE07/24/2008

What's great about it: I haven't come across a pro yet What's not so great: Faulty right out of the box!! Loud, instructions confusing
"We had to purchase this machine as our previous machine had similar dimensions and it was extremely difficult to find something that came close. Hired a handyman to install the machine into our wall, he mentioned some trouble but made do with know how from installing machines with past families. The trouble came after the unit was installed. The unit was turned on to be tested, was on about 3 hours and the room it was in was very cold. I went to go and turn it down to a more comfortable level. After I hit the fan switch, the fan turned to low and then stopped working all together. Heard noise coming from unit but no fan. Husband called customer service and they told us to bring the unit back to Best Buy to exchange or send it back to Haier for $14.95 and they'll send back a new one. We opted to go to the store. Brought back a second unit and after installation, it doesn't cool. Yes, with this one, the fan works but it just doesn't cool. And having the unit on is almost like standing next to a jet ready for take off. It is just the loudest thing ever. We still have yet to resolve this issue. But if we have to get a new unit, this will be the last Haier in our house. On a slightly side note, our master bedroom got a Frigidaire installed the same time as the Haier. What a difference. The room was cooled on medium fan in 15 minutes. I've had the Haier on for two hours and it's still at 82 degrees. Do your research before you buy Haier. There have been some positive reviews on this unit - guess we just had a bad unit TWO TIMES."

If you can get past instalation, its a good AC07/12/2008

What's great about it: quiet, effective What's not so great: missing parts, instalation takes forever, very hard
"This air conditioner appears to work well. But it took three days to install because we had to go to the hardware store two times to get different screws and nuts and bolts and a piece of wood and all sorts of other do dads and got so frustrated with it we gave up a few times. You have to take the air conditioner apart in order to make it work - it is hard, takes forever, is complicated, the directions are horrible, and the worst part is that the parts they provide don't work and you have to get your own. That said, the air conditioner seems to be very quiet and work well. We really wanted a quiet air conditioner so maybe it is worth it. It might especially be worth it if you are going to leave the AC in all year - taking it in and out seems like a serious hassle."

What's great about it: Quiet, work great, low price What's not so great: Very difficult to install & missing part
"Bought this model about a month ago. Found out ventilation lever missing after installing, have to return to store for exchange. Unless you are very good at figuring out how to install and tons of patience, this model is not for you. However, for this price, and CR "best buy" rating, it is still a good deal. You get what you paid!"

What's great about it: Cools very well What's not so great: a bit noisy, instalation of rails, remote
"I needed this unit because of the perfect height it came in. My windown slide left and right instead of the conventional up and down windows. This unit is NOT user friendly if your not handy. You must install the rails your self and its pretty hard. You would need to remove the outer shell of the AC unit just to install the top rail and side rails. Just utterly stupid design in my eyes. If the Unit weren't soo heavy, I would have returned it in a heartbeat.
Buyer Beware!!!"

What's great about it: very quite, very effiecient What's not so great: it's not complete you have to add rail etc and there is no bottom rail
"Normally an install would take less than 15 min. Over an hour later we finally got it back together and hoped it worked. If it wasn't so heavy I would have returned it in a second. I'm hoping we did a good job of putting the rail on. I'll be checking to see if my co-op insurance is up to date in case it falls out the window.
Word of advice you need to pull the chasis out to put the rail in and then screw the rail on with the screw head on the inside of the frame.
If you have a wall opening this is probably the machine for you. If it's for a window. get something else."

What's great about it: Best Buy processed my return/refund promptly and without question What's not so great: poor instructions, difficult installation and apparrent manufacture defect
"The instructions were not explicit enough. In order to install the unit, you have to take off the front panel (how??...they don't say, except to remove the screw that holds it on, which they don't point out on the diagram), take out the "guts", and install the empty case in the window. Then put the thing back together again. Unfortunately once we got the guts out, we found the holes on top of the case where the top rail needs to be attached were too big for the screws. Game over.....except now we have to put it back together to return it. We never did get the front panel back on correctly. If you are thinking about buying one, open the box first to make sure that problem with attaching the top rail is not repeated. I returned it and do not want another. Tomorrow I'll go looking again, and this time I'm looking in the box before I take it home. The one positive note is that Best Buy took care of the return without any issue."
