Save the headach, don't buy this unit.

What's great about it: Good Box
What's not so great: never gets cold, very loud, weaker than my 5000 btu
"Bought it, installed it, then tested it at night. It was loud, way louder that I figured, louder than a hotel room giant wall system. Then it would not reach a coolness that I wanted. Overnight, it actually got warmer and warmer, by morning it was barely coolish air. I returned it and got the 6000 BTu Fridigaire. So much quieter and cooler. Also the parts are better, the remote is better and it is QUIET cool. I found out the hard way, I would stay away from the Haier."

What's great about it: Room temp display, And it creates ice for cocktails
What's not so great: everything else
"I have had this for 3 days and it is the worst A/C unit ever. It freezes up after an hour of being on 75 deg, dont try to go even colder it just gets worse. The sales guy even told me these get reurned all the time well guess what here comes another one should have listened to the guy and got the Fridgidaire. And loud dont even get me started! cant even hear the TV. And as soon as you start it the room temp gets hotter, how does that work I thought I bought an A/C unit not a Heater. Then you ave to turn it off and let the ICE melt when you turn it back on it spits chunks of ICE and WATER at you. Oh did I mention it doesn't cool the room at all. And the energy star is a crock unless you keep it on 80 deg, cuz the room will never get cool enough for that feature to work. Basicly if you want a good $200 fan this is what you want! Good thing I saved the Box :p"

What's great about it: The Cooling for the Price
What's not so great: No negatives yet
"This 7800 btu Haier is a great little A/C unit for the price. Seems that some have problems with the noise, but that is usually a problem with any window A/C if not installed properly or securely. Reasons for noise could be more to do with type of window than the A/C unit due to excessive vibration.
I installed the A/C in my 12x12 office and the unit works perfectly. Cools fast. Of course I securely mounted it through a wall as opposed to a window and added extra weather stripping (cushioned tape) to relieve any potential vibration within the unit. A tip to help with noise would be to add weather stripping around the unit where it makes any contact with the window sill. If unit is not cooling properly it could be due to a number of other factors such as insulation problems and/or raised houses."

Cold but Noisy

What's great about it: Blows seriously cold air consistently
What's not so great: Somewhat loud compared to other ACs
"This unit is noisy like the other reviews say, though I have no problem sleeping with it 8 feet away from my head. It cools the room off quickly and is thankfully small enough to fit in a tiny window - we use to to cool our bedroom and the adjacent nursery and it does a fine job for the size.
Installation was easy and the unit appears sturdy - the filter is also easy to access and clean."

What's great about it: None

"This product is just too loud. There is no noise difference between the settings. It simply is inferior and I am furious with Best Buy for sellng it."

Gets the Job done

What's great about it: Very cold for small areas
What's not so great: Noise
"While this unit may be noisy, it is extremely powerful and user friendly for a cheaper system. I found that with the proper amount of weather stripping and securing, I was able to reduce most of the noise produced by this unit. Also with the addition of more insulation I could not hear the noise from the outside of the house. It gets loud inside, because it is working :)"

What's great about it: High Tech.Easy to change air flow.Excellent "brown out"rating.
What's not so great: Could have included more weather stripping.
"I purchased this unit after doing my "window shopping"
via the internet.Yes the price may be higher than some
other air conditioners but the quality is second to none.
Did not have any problem with the noise.For the BTU
size;this is a very light weight piece of equipment. As usual did my comparison shopping but ended up at Best
Buy for the quality."

"This ac unit sounds like someone took a marble and put it into a styrafoam drum. If you like the sound of snare drums then you will have no problems falling alseep to this air conditioner."

What's up with the remote?

What's great about it: Btu capacity vs. physical size
What's not so great: Pretty loud and crazy remote control.
"Nice easy window install and works well at cooling and removing humidity. There's an odd 'twist' with using the remote control. While channel surfing with my RCA television remote control I pointed the remote in the direction of the TV (which is almost in direct line with the Haier remote sensor) and while entering the numerical value "1" and "2" for channel "12" on the TV the numbers and green lights on the Haier started to flash and then went out completely. The air conditioner stayed on so I allowed it to run. Within several hours it turned itself off. Figuring that the electronics had failed I made plans on junking the Haier and buying a different brand. Just out of idle curiosity I pressed the Haier remote control and the blasted thing came back to life.........digital readout.....and everything. Anyone else reported or experienced a similar remote problem?"

What's not so great: Nothing quiet about this unit
"Advertised as Ultra quiet. Ultra quiet it is not. It is my daughter's bedroom window and she's not sure she'll sleep with running even on low speed. We'll see. Too late to return now! Do your homework, do your research, read reviews."
