What's great about it: Looks good
What's not so great: Doesn't work

"I purchased ar WRT310N for Christmas. It worked fine for about 4 months when I started losing connection to the internet. The problem became worse and worse until I there were times when I could only stay connected for 5 minutes at a time. The problem seems to center around the MTU settings. Tech support had me keep lowering the MTU size but that wasn't compatible with my sons XBOX which require a minimum 1360 MTU. At first I could only reconnect to the internet by unplugging the router which was a pain because it's in my basement. I then discovered I could re-connect to the internet by going into the routers settings and changing the MTU size. It didn't matter what I changed it to. Just changing the number and saving the "new" settings allwed me to re-connect to internet without having to power down. Of course all this time I am trying to get help from Linksys tech support. Not surprisingly they weren't that much help. They FINALLY allowed me to return the unit because it was still under warranty but when I received the new unit, I had the same problem right out of the box. So I gave up and bought a NetGear WRN3500 and (cross my fingers) it's been working fine for two weeks. Until this point I have been very satisfied with Linksys but this router is a lemon. In researching this problem on the internet I found others who have experienced these same problems. Some think it's because the box is overheating but I can't say that's the problem with mine. The problem has been around for some time now and still no fix from Linksys. Save your money."

What's great about it: Up and working in 15 minutes
What's not so great: Not sure

"I almost didn't buy this router based on some of the consumer comments. I did an "in store" pickup, transaction took about three minutes, especially with the designated parking spaces!

There's nothing negative to report, followed the simple directions, sat back while the router connected and downloaded the updated driver's etc and was online is about 15 minutes. Added my laptop, about 5 minutes. All in all, this was WAY better than I could have imagined. Never needed to call their (Linksys) support line, as the connection is FAST.

I'm not sure why so many other people had trouble, I am the original "low-tech" guy & I didn't have a single problem. My advice would be to read the directions, and you can't go wrong.

What's great about it: Easily setup on wired laptop, easy to folllow instructions
What's not so great: had to call tech services to set up wireless link for my other laptop

"Bought this router becauseit would support draft n protocol. It was easily setup and configured on the wired laptop, the problem started when I tried to connect my other latptop wirelessly. I had to call tech services to get it done. It took 30 minutes inthe box to on the internet. Performance is running 54 mbps, which i thought would be alot faster, possibly I do not have it configured correctly, but it should configure to run the fastest possible I would think. Descent enough router, not worth any more than $116. I would recommend it if high speed performance is not an issue."

What's great about it: Setup takes 5 minutes, great signal.
What's not so great: Nothing I have found so far.

"I bought this router after having trouble with a Netgear product. This router is so simple to set up. From the time I took it out of the box and was surfing the web was literally like 4-5 minutes. Albeit I am very tech savvy, this router would be great for anyone with any type of technical experience. I have two laptops, a PS3, and an iPod Touch connected to this and they all work great even while using them all simultaneously and playing on the PSNetwork. I have yet to find anything wrong with this router. So if you're looking for a router I highly recommend this product."

What's great about it: Easy setup and super fast connection.
What's not so great: Nothing

"I bought this router after having another lynksys router but needed one with greater range. This router definately fills the bill. Setup was soooo easy. The only problem I experienced was when I added other computers to the wireless network. I finally figured that the usb flash drive was faulty. When I used another, setup of other computers was a breeze. With the older router I had 2 - 3 bars, but now have a solid 4 bars on all computers and can use them anywhere in the house."

What's great about it: Works great, look great, no antena, and really fast
What's not so great: Initial installation wizard is too holky

"I read all the customer review on this router and almost pass on it since the reviews were generally not so great. However, having been a network admin for years and with BestBuy generous return policy, I decided this router is well worth the time and money. I'm glad I gave it a try.
The installation CD that came with the router did not work on certain CD drives for some reason. After I got the CD content copied to a directory and run the setup, I thought it wizard was hooky and a big waste of my time with animation on where to plug things in. Once I hooked the router up I used Internet Explorer to connect to the configuration GUI and spent about 2 minutes setting up the rest of the installation. It was too easy to and extremely intuitive.
I'm not sure why this router got low marks on performance and value. This router is fast, reliable, extreme easy to install (once you get pass the hooky installation wizard), has a really long range, looks great and has no external antenna to break off. This router is so easy to use, you don’t have to have any knowledge about networking or routers to get it up and running.
I would definitely recommend giving it a try. If it doesn’t work for you, take it back.

What's great about it: Very easy to set up
What's not so great: Frequent disconnects from both wired and wireless devices

"Let me say first of all I am a Linksys fan as I've never had any problems with their products in the past, so I didn't expect any issues with this one.

I bought this router a week ago and immediately noticed intermittent disconnects on one of my wired computer connections. Also noticed disconnects on the wireless connection going to my satellite receiver. After flashing the firmware, I still had the same problem. I switched back to my WRT54G router and all of my problems went away. I did a Google search on this issue and I found I'm not the only one who's had these problems. This router is going back in the morning.

What's great about it: Set up was easy. NO issues losing connection or dropping out.
What's not so great: Set up software could be a tad simpler for most.

"I agree with everyone who says "follow the instructions and you will be fine". I've had 4 linksys routers over the last 10 years and never had the connection issues people talk about with these units. The advisor feature is very nice. Gives you an easy to read map of who is accessing your network and let's you flag devices you don't know or block if you have to. I have two gaming systems hooked up by ethernet, a cat 6 cable on my desktop, and other wireless gaming systems hooked up. Never have issues with it. My only complaint would be if so many people are having trouble the set up software might need to be revised so everyone can experience the ease of use this device delivers."

I'll give it 5 stars   01/06/2009
By Vince123 from New York NY

What's great about it: I just like it.

"I set it up with the default Firmware & had wireless house phone interfearence. I had to call Linksys & let them walk me through a firmware upgrade. This was not a real surprize to me. The linksys tech's were great.
The firmware update was not too hard, but I would call them if I were you to let them walk you through it. I had just got this router yesterday 1/5/09.
a good thing is, it dont matter what cabels you got, even if there all cat 5, this router will give you a 1Gbps network as long as you have a Gigabit LAN on your Mobo, or you install a Linksys PCI Gigabit NIC.

What's not so great: gets hot

"This product is amazing. I got it and set up my network in about 10 minutes. I went online with 2 PSPs, a laptop and my phone simultaneously in my backyard and the speed was surprisingly fast. The sleek style looks great on my desk even though it gets really hot (make sure to have good ventilation). Great product for a great price."

What's great about it: Easy to install (even easier than the practically idiotproof WRT54GS, which says a great deal)
What's not so great: Absolutely nothing; it's the only N rouyter I recommmend without hesitation.

"I just installed this router for a family friend that was looking to add wireless to an existing DSL setup without removing her (required) router. Because the existing wired DSL router (WesTell) uses the 192.168.1.x subnet (the default for most routers), all i had to do was change the default subnet for the Linksys (I chose 192.168.2.115 as the start, and stayed with WPA for security, as the initial wireless clients are all using XP). Result: the two routers easily daisychain (and there are two different subnets; 192.168.1.x for wired Fast Ethernet clients, and 192.168.2.x for wireless and gigabiut wired clients). The XP clients use Dynex USB wireless-N USB adapters (despite both being desktops) and it is utterly flawless."

What's great about it: dd-wrt
What's not so great: runs hot

"The ability to run dd-wrt firmware on this router makes it the greatest value of all N routers that are currently being made, with the feature set that it contains, except for the internal antennas. Gigabit lan works great, still don't have a full N wireless system, but with dd-wrt, I'll be able to network all my directv hd-dvrs, slingbox, nas, ps3, wii, latop. Ran into a few issues setuping my network, but those issues were due to a faulty switch. But I wouldn't of been able to figure it out without the flexibility of dd-wrt firmware.
If you have any reservations about violating you're warranty in order to run dd-wrt, then don't, but with that said, I still have a wrt-54g running it for that last 4 years, only having to be restarted a handful of times. Also have a netgear 854 N router, and I much prefer the linksys to this router.
This router will work great for a novice, but has the flexibility to allow the advanced used exploit ever facet of it! Enjoy
"

What's great about it: looks attractive and fast on LAN side
What's not so great: won't connect to internet - 'nough said?

"I thought the firmware issue had solved problems that were stated in previous negatives reviews so I took a chance and bought this even though other router had better reviews. Bad idea. This router worked perfect on the LAN side but would not connect to the internet no matter what I did. This is going directly back to be replaced by a router with a better rating."
