What's great about it: The only thing I can say that is positive - pretty simple to set up. What's not so great: Overall performance; customer support
"This product is pitiful. Internet connection drops (has been dropping) randomly for weeks. I've reflashed the firmware, had Customer Support re-config the router, etc. - nothing works. Customer Support (at least the Support Team in the Philipines) leaves a lot to be deisred as well. After spending countless hours with Support (both the phone and using the "live chat") I'll be returning this product. I can not believe it is on the shelves of retailers."

What's great about it: installation What's not so great: everything else
"if there was a way to give this a .5 rating, i would. the only thing this is good for is installation. everything else sucks. the range constantly drops even when im 5 feet away from the router. it constantly kicks you off the internet...i would constantly call my cable/dsl company because i thought it was the modem but i was badly mistaken. i cant say that it will work as a wifi router for ps3, but its ok performance for the wii. the xbox 360 is not compatible wirelessly with multiple consoles. ive read many tech support forums to fix its problem with online gaming issues but everyone says the same thing and its frustrating. i wouldnt recommend this product to anyone, and if youve already bought it recently, take it back because its not worth the headache. hopefully, linksys will learn from this and wont make another mistake by creating a useless router."

What's not so great: Unfortunately the v2 of this product has a Ralink chip, less memory and a MAJOR DNS problem
"In V2 of this product they switched from Broadcom to Ralink chips with much less memory. Big mistake! after a few weeks of use, the DNS starts failing. Half the time you open a site in your browser it fails with a "site not available" message. VERY frustrating. Check the forum on the Linksys site. Dont buy this till they fix the problem!!!"

What's great about it: Easy installation, nice support software, clear instructions. What's not so great: Functions very poorly with more than one computer on the network.
"Installed easily and reached out nicely to all corners of our old 2-story, interference-laden home. But, as soon as the downstairs laptop fired up, the upstairs (WIRED) host computer developed all kinds of connection problems. Would only connect like every third try, and then would falter all the time while surfing. Tried lowering the securtiy level - same problems. Fooled around with it for hours - no luck. Returned it. Got the Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router - GET THIS NETGEAR ROUTER!!!! It screams wireless & wired. (Packaging claims an extra boost for 'wired') Not a single problem. Software on the Netgear not quite as lush, but what you want is the super, no-problem performance!!"

What's great about it: Easy to set up, low price for N router, nice design What's not so great: Continuous reboots because of lost connections.
"The router initially worked great (24 hours), but it soon turned for the worse. When plugged into the hard wired connection, the signal disappeared and had no internet connectivity. Reboots worked sometimes, but not always. It was completely random and intemittent. One could work wirelessly the whole time, but you'd be committing to slower speeds than capable all of the the time. Called Linksys on 2 different occasions and they were very friendly/helpful. They were able to resolve the problem quickly each time, but the problem returned less than 30 minutes later each time. They said my internet connection was "too fast". I don't consider that a problem. After 5 days, I gave up and returned the item for the NetGear equivalent and have not had problems since."

"Installation was quite simple. Had to reboot everything to get connectivity at first, but that was expected. Now it loses connectivity while I’m using it. I continually have to reboot the unit to get it to work.
It’s going back to the store."

What's great about it: No visible antenna What's not so great: Fails to perform
"I bought this simply to replace my circa 2003 Belkin 802.11b router. I figured it was time to go beyond 11 Mbps and to extend the range. It installed easily, but was highly unstable. I would get speeds anywhere from 54 Mbps all the way down to 1 Mbps. And it was even more unstable with my iPhone (though the old Belkin had worked pretty well with the iPhone). I spent quite a bit of time with Linksys tech support, then Apple tech support, but made no progress in terms of stability. Mind you, connecting wasn't much of a problem - maintaining a connection was the real problem. So, I'm back to the Belkin for now. I'll return the Linksys tomorrow and get something else, but I may stay away from Linksys. I would caution you not to buy this model."

What's great about it: Looks slick What's not so great: DNS problems and REAL slow with games and Seemingly bad wireless range
"I bought this unit based upon the reviews of this site (and price), but unfortunately, the reviews I read appear to have been based upon V1 of the router and not V2.
When I got it home, I plugged it in to replace my Motorola router and everything seemed to work.. initially. The second webpage I tried to load gave me a 404 error. I refreshed and it loaded, then I went to another site... 404 again, refresh and got 404, refresh and it loaded. I went to linksys and saw a new firmware that apparently addressed "some" DNS issue (didn't seem to be the one's I was having, but I figured it would take care of it). I upgraded the firmware, but the DNS seemed to get worse.
I then went to linksys community forum and found a thread with 120 posts of people having DNS problems with V2 of this router. Linksys has made no statement about the problem, but the community users have found out if you DOWNGRADE your router to Build 8 firmware (which you can only get by downloading a 120MB+ GPL tar file and extract out a single 3 MB firmware from it). Really, how many people are going to be able to do that. It's not in Zip format that Windows has built-in support for and most people would have no idea as to for to get the file. Anyway, DNS problems appeared to have been fixed, but the web didn't seem all that "snappy".
I then went to get my wife's laptop hooked up to it and I couldn't connect at speeds faster than 11 Mbps. The old Motorola would give me 54 Mbps with no problems. Maybe those antennas hidden inside the box don't really work all that well.
Finally, I tried to play one of my online games and I was seeing latency of over 1000 ms. I played with port forwarding, no improvement; I set QoS for the port, no improvement. I plugged my old Motorola router back in, latency dropped to under 200 ms.
Since the router was completely disconnected, I went ahead and boxed it up and will be returning it today to give D-Link a try. More money, but hopefully it will work. I gave this router 3 hours of my time, that's plenty."

What's great about it: Good to use for your wireless devices. What's not so great: Lose internet connectivity to your hard wired PCs constantly unstable.
"Bought this new router to replace my belkin because I just bought a new house so I need better signal range. Heard good things about linsys in the past. I saw this particular model was on sale so I bought it. Was so excited because I never lost connection to my wii or my second wireless pc. Then I wanted to go use my main PC that is hardwired to the linksys router. Worked fine after initial set up, but then all of a sudden lost internet connection to my pc. had to keep going to my admin page of my router constantly just to make it work. Went to linksys website and apperently every single person has a problem with this model. Linksys has done nothing to fix this problem."

What's great about it: nothing What's not so great: Not REALLY Vista compatible
"Bought this router to replace my old Linksys wireless G, which worked well, but broke after 1 year. This N router by Linksys works good for the wireless connection, but the wired computer connection was slow, and kept dropping the connection every 5 minutes. Also, the set-up disc was buggy to install on Vista, and was just clunky to use. I don't think linksys worked out their software compatiblity issues with Vista on this particular version yet.
I returned it and bought the Belkin N router for the same money, and it works great; wired - no dropped connections, and the wireless connection is a bit faster. It was also a bit easier to install and setup. 4.5 stars for the Belkin-N; I would recommend this wireless router."

What's great about it: Looks cool What's not so great: Drops internet access; looks promsing at first... but nowhere near as stable as earlier models
"I wanted to believe that the previous responses were somehow off the mark. So I bit the bullet and purchased. After working through the install, found that the internet would appear and then disappear from access.
Very, Very, very disappointed in Linsys for releasing this piece of junk"

What's great about it: Set up, easy to use. What's not so great: Everything it was built to do.
"Bought this router almost a year ago now. When I first bought the product it was easy to setup and ran fine. I had a laptop and a 360 set up wireless. About every two weeks the router would drop it's wireless capability and I would have to spend all day resetting and reconfiguring the router. Also don't plan on doing any hefty traffic on this router because that will cause it to drop the signal even sooner. Now I hardly can even get it to work correctly at all.
That's why I'm online at best buy to find a new router and I figured I would write a review on my current router while I was on. My advice would be to skip the purchase of this model in general and find something else."

What's great about it: Easy to set up What's not so great: Widespread problems without support. Product lacks memory and is not fixable with firmware updates.
"Im writing this due to a fatal flaw in this product that prevents it being any use. The Linksys Cisco forums are flooded with problems regarding this model, specifically V2, regarding internet connectivity and performance.
It typically will loses all functionality within 15minutes to 2 hours, a rescent firmware update has added to that a DNS problem which usualy will require reattempting to load a webpage 5-6 times through 5 minutes. From what I heard, compared to V1, this device lacks the memory required to perform what it was built for and is fataly flawed and cannot be repaired through and type of firmware update.
I don't think my experience will ruin my vision of this company as I have many other of their products that have outperformed others and proven their durability. However this specific one seems to be a major mistake."

What's great about it: looks nice What's not so great: connection problems both wireless and even wired
"I was initially impressed with the simplicity of the setup software but I then found that my workstation would not always be able to connect to the internet even though it was hard-wired to the router. And then when I tried to connect my laptop via wireless, it could not connect to the router even though it could see it as an available network. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Linksys support on both of these connection issues and in the end they said that the firmware should be upgraded so I should just return it. I went back to the store and got a D-Link 655 instead and got it up and running within 30 minutes."

What's great about it: nothing What's not so great: Well, it doesn' t allow consistent Internet access!?? Drops you out constantly
"The software DEFINITELY doesn't work with Vista Home premium. The annoying network notification alert tool is installed automatically to the toolbar, difficult to remove and does not work. You have to use task manager to stop the alert manager app and then you might be able to launch Easylink advisor if you try a couple times.
The router worked great right at first, but then it just won't let you access the Internet sometimes, Easylink always reports everything is A OK, but your workstation will not reach beyond this piece of junk. I've been in computing/networking for 20+ years, it's how I make a living. This is a terrible product from the likes of Cisco, I'm VERY disappointed! Flaky device not worth the frustration you will surely have if you buy it."
