What's great about it: Was a fast setup, simply plug and play
What's not so great: lack of visible or adjustable antenna
"I bought this refurbished and got it for a great price and very worth it, hooked up quick and with no problems. Had some problems when it conflicted with an access point and the router got confused and had to unplug the router to reset it. Other than that definitly faster than the wireless G router I had before this."

Connection Drops every fifteen minutes
01/03/2010

What's great about it: Easy to install
What's not so great: Connection Drops every now and then
"I never thought that buying a router can be such a challenge. First I tried Belkin N+ which did not work at all, I was happy when I was able to configure this LinkSys router quickly but then a realized that wireless speed is extremely poor after doing some research on the web I was able to get upto 140Mbps.
Main problems: 1. The default configuration should be set to higher wireless speed and there shouldn't be any need for me to spend hours finding out a configuration which delivers high speed. The main reason I bought an N router was to get the higher speed. 2. I was upgrading from my 802.11 B router, which has worked like a champion for last five years, because I started using my XBox for audio/video streaming (Netflix, Media center, etc.). Once, I had the settings right for high speed I was happy but then I realized that the wireless connection drops every 10-15 minutes so this router is useless.
I am returning this router tomorrow. I have already purchased and configured Netgear N 300 router (Model No: WNR2000). I was able to get Netgear router configured in 10 minutes, the default configuration provided a wireless speed of 145Mbps. I will definitely write a post on that once I have tested it well. It has worked well for last 4 hours without any connection drop."

What's great about it: Installation and configuration
What's not so great: Poor performance, Slow wifi speed @ excellent signal strength
"I paid $ 88 for this router expecting high speed performance while surfing net and online streaming... but it turned out to be a wrong decision. Installation and configuration was pretty quick but speed is pretty much slow.. I have 10 Mbps broadband connection and with wireless this router takes ages to open web pages... and even worse with online video!! I am going to return this product and get better replacement!"

What's great about it: I'm drawing a blank as to what's good about it
What's not so great: extremely poor range, very slow
"When in the room with my desktop/wireless NIC, I get a 54mbit connection, but the configuration pages were very slow to load (sometimes timing out altogether).
Once I moved it two rooms away (where the cable drop/modem is), I could not connect most of the time, and when I did connect, I got a 12mbit connection.
This thing needs a serious set of external antennas. Bought it today, and it's going back for refund tomorrow."

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: None to low connection about 10 feet away or no connection through a normal wall.
"I bought this router on the recommendation from a “qualified” store salesperson. When I got it home, the instillation was easy, but trying to get my devices attached took hours. The range is poor at best, my laptop is located approximately 10 feet from the router and had a poor reception if any at all. I’m taking this item back to the store and going back to my old reliable D-link brand router."

What's great about it: Increased performanace over an old 802.11b
What's not so great: Network Magic software
"Wow, has this been an adventure! It all started a week ago with the decision to replace our beloved 5 year old 802.11b router with something more up to date. We purchased the Linksys WRT160N because it was on sale and carried the Linksys name. Reading online reviews was done after the fact and boy was it an eye opener. All of the “N” routers had countless good and bad reviews which made us consider abandoning the upgrade all together. We kept the box unopened pending a decision…
In the end we stuck with the Linksys WRT160N because ours was a version 3 and NOT one of the dreaded version 2’s. Our serial number starts with CSE41.
We followed the initial install instructions to the letter and everything went wonderfully. The wired desktop connected without issue. Three of our four wireless devices (notebook, netbook, Sirius radio) were close at hand so I installed them and all three connected without issue. Wow, that was easy! It was getting late so I decided to leave the 4th wireless device (upstairs desktop) until morning.
In the morning I went to connect the 4th device and couldn’t get it to connect. I turned on the other three wireless devices and NONE of them would connect either! The install process ends with a version of “Network Magic” getting installed. NM has a nifty network graphical display that showed my wireless devices as “connected” but the devices themselves were not. Then suddenly, a device would connect and a NM pop-up would show up to tell me about it. Just as suddenly the connection would go away. The software was also telling me to install NM on my wireless devices which I didn’t want to do. I also didn’t care for the messages suggesting I buy an upgrade to NM. I went into the router via the web and verified MAC addresses, the passkey, etc. Still fluky. GoodRead65’s unit came with “Linksys EasyLink Advisor” which he ultimately uninstalled. I followed suit and uninstalled NM, reset the router, and restarted the devices. Everything worked fine the remainder of the day. I was wondering if NM’s constant poling of the network might have been a cause for it’s fluky behavior. Guess I’ll never know…
Several reviewers (of earlier versions) mentioned how things took a turn for the worse when updating the firmware. Linksys has an update but we’re going to stay away unless we encounter problems. Other reviewers spoke highly of third party firmware (DD-WRT) which is available for our version 3 unit so that’s an option should we need it."

What's great about it: Worked great for about a year
What's not so great: Crapped out shortly after warranty ended
"I had always had good results with previous Linksys products. Even this router worked pretty well for about a year. After just a little over a year's use, the router suddenly would not connect wirelessly. My computer cannot even see the signal. Nothing I did would fix the problem. This is typical though. Routers generally only last about a year before the wireless portion craps out. My friend has an Airport which she has had for about 3 years with no problems. That is what I bought this time."

What's not so great: The wireless part went south in one Day. Rebooting worked a few times then it didn't work at all. Lot of web comments.
"Worked for half a day, Had to start robooting the router to get the wireless to work, The wired part still works. The wireless part went totally out in one day. Know other people who have problems, also, google the model and see all the problem listings for this model. I'm unhooking this after this review and taking it back. Also, try to find a support link on their web that works. I tried to register the unit online twice, (upper and lower case) and I got back the serial number wasn't in the system."

What's great about it: Easy to set up, more features than previous Linksys Wireless AP's/Routers
What's not so great: None
"My previous Linksys-G router was a reliable workhorse for many years. When it was time to upgrade to N, Linksys was my first choice. Many reviews on here made me second guess that choice but I went with my personal experience. This new Linksys-N router was quick and easy to setup. I have the following devices connected with no issues: VOIP, 3 PC's (one utilizing VPN), Wii (Wireless), Xbox360 (Wired), and a network printer. I have no issues with the many devices connected, even during intense use of the bandwidth. This router also features IP reservations, a small feature that many already have but something that previous Linksys routers didn't. Coming from a previous Linksys fan, I highly recommend this device."

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Everything, performance and tech support
"Hooked it up and my Wii and laptop only intermittently linked up with it. Called the Linsys support line and the person could barely speak english and just repeated what was in the manual so I returned it and got a new one. My laptop and Wii were never able to hook up to the second one. I returned it again and this time the salesman told me to try a NETGEAR Wireless-N 300, WNR2000. I hooked it up in a couple minutes and it works flawlessly with the Wii and laptop."

What's great about it: design
What's not so great: everything else
"First bought G-router of the same brand. It took me about 2 h to finally set-up wireless connection. It worked fine on the first day but on the second day it became slow and eventually stopped working. It was not my computer since all my 3 laptops and 2 iphones did not detect the wireless signal. Thinking that it might be the defect of that specific unit, returned and switched to N-router. Same thing happened; took several hours to set-up/worked on the first day/stopped working on the second day. Returned and switched to Netgear. Took me less than 30 min to set up everything and start to surf the web by wireless in no time. NEVER EVER buy Linksys."

What's great about it: nice body for a router
What's not so great: everything about it. hard to install. call center representatives are rude
"please pleases please..before u get this router read my review. i had this router installed by my IT cousin who knows the nits and grits of wireless connections. he didn't succeed after several attempts. he advised me to buy d-link instead.. and since i don't wanna go back to best buy i told him that i would give it a try until i seek help from their rude 24 customers service. they updated the software, serves no change.. i bought d-link online and i just got it today. changed my router and in no time i had connected my 2 laptops.
DON'T BUY THIS router!"

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Unreliable, firmware buggy
"I've had this router for about 6 months now. I'm fed up with it. Linksys tech support is useless, the firmware hasn't been updated to fix any of the known bugs. UPnP is non-functioning, the router has to be rebooted daily or it will simply stop working, heavy use (long file transfers) bog the router down, it will slow to a crawl.
Very unreliable. There are better routers for the same or less money."

What's great about it: NOTHING
What's not so great: Drops signals
"I just bought this router today 12-6-09 to replace my netgear wndr3300 that bricked on me after just one year. Do NOT buy this router. I brought it home tonight and connected it. I use MAC address for connect my router to my different computers and other machines. I barely got through that process. Computes kept losing the signal from just 20 feet away. I also use a media extender with these. I was in the process of watching a movie streaming from my computer and had to reconnect the media extender to the router 4 times in 2 hours. This piece of junk is going back to Best Buy tomorrow. No clue on what I'll get to replace it. Do NOT buy this router!!"

What's great about it: Was $20 dollars off when purchased
What's not so great: Horrible performance
"I read the reveiws posted and cant agree with many of them. I found this router to be horrible. The first day I got it, it worked well. Good signal strength and was able to use by laptop and LG390 bluray player. Four days later, as I sit at my desk, the laptop a mere 3 feet away from the router, I have a problem getting the laptop to recognize it. And the bluray player, which sits about 20 feet unobstructed line of sight from the computer to the player wont recognize it. This started going bad the second day after I got it and now, it has digressed to the point it wont even work. So back it goes tomorrow."

What's great about it: The router was easy to install
What's not so great: doesn't work
"My laptop connects no problem to wireless connections at work, hotels, airports, etc but for some reason it will not find and connect to this router. My wireless connection can find the signal and it shows 5 bars but internet pages will not open. In the very rare event that it does connect I am able to open 1 page and the signal is dropped despite still showing 5 bars and excellent signal strength. It is worse than dial up.
In addition you have to purchase a version of Adobe to read the on-disc User Manual. You have to purchase Network Magic if you want to be able to share files amongst computers or print from the wireless device.
I am returning this product and don't recommend it unless you have a lot of patience and aren't in a hurry to get on-line and surf the web."

What's great about it: It is Cisco product
What's not so great: Wireless connection is dropping every 1-5 minutes
"At first I was very happy to get Cisco router. However, after experiencing connection problems in my two laptops with wireless, I feel bad about it. One laptop is N-capable, other G and both were failing to connect to Internet. Moreover, even with the 1-5 minutes connection I had extremely low connection rate like 1 page after 10-30 seconds. Now, I am looking for a help from googling the problem. So I'll see if I return it back."
