I got this boombox for Christmas and a few months later it won't charge my iPod. It has pretty good sound but no base.

What's great about it: Good sound; durable.
What's not so great: LCD Display; lack of remote control.
We bought our unit two years ago and it's still working great. We've had trouble in the past with the CD player in boomboxes skipping after a short time even with careful handling but so far so good with this one.
Only complaint: hard to see the numerals in the deep blue LCD display if you are farther than 3 feet away from it. Why couldn't they have chosen light green or yellow? Also, we bought one recently for my father, and, as another reviewer mentioned, it apparently no longer comes with a remote (even though it is listed on the spec sheet).
Still, we are very pleased with the sound quality and the functionality of the radio/iPod dock/CD player.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I liked how portable it was. I could carry it with me to the bathroom, or kitchen, or wherever. It was light, and one piece, and had a handle. It had pretty good sound for being so small. Bass worked well, and you can adjust it. It has a cd player and radio, and came with a remote as well. HOWEVER, it had occasional electrical issues, such as I couldn't adjust the volume or turn a song, and I had it for almost exactly a year and it up and quit on me. Worked one minute, then I plugged it in and no power would come on. I only paid $50 for it, so I guess you get what you pay for. I expected it to work for more then a year though.

Using this regularly (2-3 hours/day) in my gym it got a lot of use, but still disappointed it only lasted 7 months. Sound from CDs and IPods was nice. When it stopped functioning, the whole machine stopped. Nothing could work but the screen stayed on.

I compared this model in the store alongside players that were twice the price -- and this one sounded even better than some of the more expensive models. I also loved the fact that the iPod dock kept my iPhone or iPod easily accessible. (Some other models put the iPod/iPhone inside a door, which means you have to remove your iPhone case/bumper, and you don't have easy access to your iPhone if you get a call). I snatched this off the shelf and was happy with it at first. But it became quickly apparent that the CD player part of it was junk. Had difficulty playing any CD -- and I tried many, many CDs. I returned this to the store and am on the hunt for a better product. DON'T BUY THIS.

I bought this to be able to change the music remotely, although the website specifications show it comes with the remote, it does not. It used to come with one. the sound is good for the size of this.

What's great about it: It played my iPod.
What's not so great: No AM, poor FM signal, poor CD player. So-so sound.
I bought this for use at work. The AM radio has never worked and the FM is OK, but the signal strength is not great. iPod works fine but the CD player was unreliable. A few CDs would play all the way through but most would hang up. I bought/used it mostly for iPod and FM use and fortunately it worked for those. Overall this thing is garbage and deserves a zero stars rating.

This is a great sounding box but most of our CDs will not play without skips. They play fine in our other players but not this one.
Did not try the radio or iPod dock, just got it to play CDs because it sounded great. I've seen this comment before so it goes back and we try another brand.

I have purchased 2 of these. the 2nd one was to replace 1st one. I used it at work with headphones. They are stationary on my desk. First the radio doesn't work, Then it won't shut off or change function. I now have to buy a new one and it won't be this kind Please note they have refurnished ones because they don't last long.

What's great about it: Was nice when it worked for 60 days!
We purchased this item for my son's birthday in April. After a couple a months the CD player began working intermittently. We thought maybe it was the CDs he was playing. He then purchased new CDs and the player no longer works at all. It is extremely disappointing that Insignia cannot make a product that lasts longer than 90 days. When I contacted Insignia the only thing they offered is that I get an estimate from Best Buy to have it repaired and that I pay for any necessary repairs. My advice is to stay away from insignia, I know I will be.

My daughter's second-hand CD boombox finally bit the dust and I was on the hunt for something that was both kid-friendly and had an iPod dock - this boombox fits the bill. It has great sound for the size/price and is portable. We take it out on the deck quite a bit to listen to the iPod, and it sounds wonderful. My daughter, who is 5, loves the small remote and can work the controls quite easily. CDs sound great, and have had no problems with the FM radio (haven't tried AM yet).
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Durability
This player is impossible to damage. I bought it because it was inexpensive & portable and I wanted to put it on the boat. It lasted through that and I keep it outside under a porch and it is still kickin'!! Love this little engine that could.

What's great about it: Loud, CD player, portable, easy to use
What's not so great: No color options, hard to read LCD, weak bass
Did not like the black color so I returned it and got the silver one (difficult to find) from another store. Nevertheless it's a compact boombox with decent sound.
The AM reception isn't good but FM is fine. The telescopic antenna swiveled on the black one but not on the silver one (maybe the black one was a newer version).
The "bass/treble" button allows for some customization to the sound. While the "sound" button makes it easy to switch between preset bass/treble values.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: sound quality, Size (about 12" across) , deep bass
What's not so great: You'll want to take your ipod out before moving it around on trips
I have read reviews on this Insignia boom-box dock that were not good, decided to pass, and had actually went into a Best Buy store to buy another unit that had great reviews. But I needed to compare the sound for myself first, of products in that $100 range including the one I had come in for. Sound quality was the feature that was gonna sell me.
When I had compared the sound of all the units in that price range, this one came up the winner for me. I just came back to it time and time again. GREAT bass for it's size, and good mids and highs. True, It's no Bose dock, but it is without question a really great , loud and clear little dock for the money!
I'm wont really be toting it around, as the the dock part does seem a bit
fragile unless you take the ipod out before moving it around-which is what I would suggest if you pick this up. CD player and radio were a bonus. If you consider that a charging dock alone is $30 or so, you can really see the value @ $64.

All I needed it for is to use in my kitchen, for bustin' jams while I cook.

What's not so great: Resume Play, Radio Reception, Battery Life.
No CD resume play, and horrible radio reception makes this as about as much fun as a root canal. The sound is pretty decent with full bass and a good "kick" to it when plugged in, but battery life is dismal. I suppose if you plug it into the wall and listen to Ipod music only (which I haven't tried), it might be the choice for you. The remote is nice.

My brother and I both got one of these for christmas in 2009. They worked awesomely for about 5 months. My brother's broke first. It stopped playing CD's first and then about a month later it wouldn't play the iPod either. Mine lasted about 9 months and then just stopped turning on. We both took really good care of them (my brother's sat on a shelf, and while I did carry mine back and forth to practices it was never left in the car or dropped.) It's a little expensive to replace a 60 dollar boombox every 5-9 months.

bought this for a weekend home -- limited use -- perfect size. after 6 months, the CD player died -- just stopped playing and screen reads "Err". sometimes stuff like that just happens but after reading other reviews I see it happens a lot.
I don't own an IPod -- so only interested in the CD player and radio -- too late for warranty -- too cheap to fix -- another "e-waste" candidate.

If you're looking for a boombox with all functionalities (ie: CD, Radio, Ipod dock) for background music or small rooms - this is a good boombox. Do NOT expect a high quality stereo system here. If you want something with concert or high base sound - look elsewhere. You get what you pay for. I use this for background music while doing work in a single room. My Ipod Touch 1st gen works great with it.
