What's great about it: Stylish, Performance, Excellent Screen, User Friendly
What's not so great: 1GB RAM, No SV Ouput, Web Camera
"When I saw Sony Vaio available for just $549 I can't wait to put my hands on it. This is the cheapest laptop Sony has ever released.
It came with loads of junk of software and it will take a while to remove all of them. Windows Vista just rox. The firt thing you'll notice when you'll switch it on is its X-Brite 15.4" wide inch. Its like you multimedia has come to life. Sound is also very loud. Wi-Fi is the best I have ever used. Although it works fine with 1GB RAM but if you want to play games and edit Videos I would say that a 2GB RAM is not a bad investment.

"I bought this computer on sale at Best Buy. After getting it home, I realized I couldn't hook up the wireless because of a bad wireless switch on the computer. Best Buy checked it out immediately at the return counter and gave me a no-hassle trade even after the sale had expired. I hooked it up and it's been running well ever since. My only regret is that I didn't go wireless sooner. I also wished or knew sooner, that didn't have to deal with horrible customer service just to get a good price."

What's great about it: Looks really good
What's not so great: i would like it to have better multimedia controls
"Well I purchased this Laptop thinking it would be okay for just browsing the net. But after having it for only 2 months I edit movies, use it for work and even take it on the plane for watching movies.
I think i might get the 2 gig update in the near future but so far it does everything its suppose to do for the price.
The only bad thing is I guessed the weight which is like 7 pounds but again its only 699."

"Sony no longer seems to stock a docking station for the VAIO NR line. Bummer. Multi-meter shows I hang out at 65% memory usage. May add a Gig in the near future. Un-installed the AOL and MS junk without difficulty. Comes without any sort of DVD. That's a bit odd. I've got it wired in place where the desktop used to be. No compatability issues. TV tuner would be nice, but I guess that's not something traditional laptop people need? I think it's an older model, but good deal for the price paid."

"I bought same laptop on thanksgiving day deal...it has some issue with the Dlink DI-524 wireless router...I had to change router and after that it works great. I don't know why sony says this upgradable only upto 2 GB of ram.. i removed one 512MB module and replaced/installed with 2GB module and it does recognize more than 2GB RAM. So now i have total of 2.5 GB of RAM and it works so so fast. So guys don't spend money to buy 1GB module buy directly 2GB module. The performance is so much incresed after upgrade. I upgrade it by myself it's very easy. All other is good so far"

"Removed all the trial software including Office 2007 free for 60 days. Updated windows Vista operating system with windows update. Got the wireless to work in my network. Added I gigabye chip at $30.00 from Best Buy and now working at 1.5 gig. I will replace the other memory chip if I think necessary. So far this system is doing great."

"Had this laptop for about a week now. It does great, very fast after adding another GB of ram for $60 on sale.(but still ok with one for everyday office work) Does have a bunch of Trial Demo junk that can easily be removed.
It's a great bargain for what you get.
Gaming- Decent, 2GB is a must if you want to see any kind of difference.(world of warcraft)"

What's great about it: Fast and enjoyable
What's not so great: The keyboard is different than I am used to and the touch pad is a little funny
"The guy at Best Buy said that Vista requires at least 1GB of RAM and that if I wanted to add additional programs, it was important to upgrade it. So, I upgraded to 2 GB of RAM and took off some of the pre-loaded software. I have only had the computer since Sunday, but so far it is running great and I love it."

What's great about it: Nice design ,a little bit cheap !
What's not so great: Don't have multimedia key,just have a basic keyboard,touchpad is awful ! Dont have Os windows Cd included ,looks weak
"i got this laptop at the price almost $600 with taxes included .Woa ! It is not too expensive but it is not too cheap . The price is about OK!! for Sony laptop brand.
With 160 gb Hdd ,1gb ddr2 pc 4200 ,Intel dual core 2310 dvd_rw ...etc .Thought Sony need to reduce storage of Hdd down to 120 gb and add 1gb for memory ,that changes will make this laptop be awesome .The orther things are Sony put AOL and Norton antivirus and Spy sweeper ( they are all free trial 60 days ) which i dont really need .They make my laptop got slow when i turn them on .I had to remove them out of my laptop and now it runs faster .
Cd Windows Vista home premium and Sony cd driver are not included . Thought Sony need to add Windows Vista Cd and Cd driver into the package if i need to use them to recover my system .I hate to use recover from Hard drive which included some software i dont need"

"This notebook is amazing for the price, i have been searching hard for a while now to find a notebook to exceed my needs and stay within my budget. This notebook is so incredible with how user friendly it is. I would absolutely recommend this product to anybody who is looking for an awesome laptop at a great price! I am probably going to upgrade the RAM to 2G eventually but i have not had a bit of problem the way it is out of the box!"

A very good basic model

What's great about it: VAIO at this price, Awesome display, Good basic config
What's not so great: Heavy, Not easy to carry around (IMO)
"I may be biased in this review as I have been using a Thinkpad T60 for about a year.
This model is an outstanding basic configuration. With the VISTA features toned down and switched to classic view you can use this very well for business needs. Battery backup seemed to be very good at low brightness settings. I found it heavy and difficult to hold in hand (This is quite natural since I've been using that other laptop).
Has got all the required interfaces. WLAN works good. It is advisable to add another gig of RAM. The windows performance score was around 3.0"

What's great about it: Sleek thin design a plus, 15.4 but light weight. Good operating system.
What's not so great: 2 GB RAM and camera would have been a plus.
"A great PC for home or school use. Fortunately, was at the local store looking at laptops when it came in and was immediately displayed for $699. A great bargain at this sale price of $549. I was even able to assist loading a program on it while I was test driving. Pleanty of speed for normal apps, and 4 USB hubs to boot. For full price a camera could have been added. However, it was the Sony X-Brite screen I previewed loaded images on that sold me! Recommend for sure."
