The one thing I should start off with was that this camera was fairly easy to use.
Despite its ease of use, I was highly disappointed in this camera. I was looking for a camera to take to Beijing with me. To start off, I got +RW DVD's which I would not recommend getting because it does not let you delete your videos with a +RW disc. The miniDVD's are highly inconvenient because they record a maximum of 60 minutes on one disc, and you have to switch them out constantly. The discs are a pain to finalize on top of it. I took the handycam with me to Buena Vista for a vacation and came to realize that its claimed "full color night footage" or whatever is nothing of the sort. It made everyone's faces neon blue and made them look like they had fangs and such. It was actually scary. The next morning, I tried it out during the daytime. Come to find out, It had horrible picture quality. I felt like I was back in the 1980's. I returned the camera today and exchanged it for a JVC Everio GZ-MG330. I am very satisfied with my new camera and would HIGHLY recommend it. GOod luck finding the camera perfect for you!
What's great about it: easy to use.
What's not so great: too much to say.

It's good at what it is. Kind of like an old VHS recorder. You record a video, then watch it on a TV, thats about all it's worth, seriously. Once you finalize the dvd, there's no way to edit it. Unless you have dvd-ripping software that is. There is an editor built into the camera but you have to use it before you finalize the disc. It records as VOB files, which is just like movies you rent or buy. So dont expect to make a video and put it straight on Youtube (or the like) you must first convert it to a useable format.
You really need small fingers for the tiny icons on the touchscreen. I have to use a stilus, as i hate using my fingernails with it. The screen looks really good though.
Sometimes the auto-focus will get confused. Which is fine if you're moving around, but I've had mine blur in/out while stationary. It doesn't happen a lot though, and only in lower lighting conditions.
Anything else I listed above has aready been addressed by other reviewers. Overall it's a great buy, as long as you dont plan on editing your home movies or posting them to an online host (i.e. youtube, myspace, etc.).

I didnt buy this camcorder from bestbuy, (they were sold out) but it is the same camera. It is an extremely good buy for $299.99, and the picture quality is awesome. It has some nice features. I didnt figure out that the screen was touch-screen...So it took me a while to figure that out. But anyway, it doesnt take long at all to charge. about 10 minutes on the charger = 100 filming minutes. I'll be using this camcorder to record skate video with my friends and etc. Buy it if your looking for something not too techy.
What's great about it: Battery life, low price, quality, etc.
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to work with.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a great camcorder for the value. It is very easy to use and the picture quality is nice. It is better than I had expected and the sound quality is pretty good as well. It has some nice features and function depending on what you are recording. I think it's a great camera for starters/basic projects.

Dont buy this very exspinceve cam corder. My husband bought me this so I could tape our new born son and send him the video of him on a dvd to watch in the war. well....i couldnt begin to tell you the problems i have had with this! Doesnt work with mac. so I installed everything on my PC. Once I did that the first time i had to converet the DVD to work. now i do the same thing i did before and it wont even open what I imported. Stay away from this 500 dollar purchase! So sick of it and am in tears my husband is missing his son now even on video cam.
What's great about it: NOTING
What's not so great: Does not work when uploading pictures and nor works with a MAC
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have never owned a camcorder before and was concerned about how easy this one would be to use. I was able to figure this one out without even reading the book. I have made mulitple recordings and have been pleased with the results. Every recording has turned out great. I only wish I had purchased this a long time ago.

We bought this recorder to replace a Panasonic older, bulkier one. Overall it's great - has excellent video picture, but very poor still pictures - but then again that's what a digital camera is for, so that feature doesn't matter. Our only real complaint is that it is hard to hold still and the slightest movement causes the camera to move and makes the picture move. Going to have to get a tripod for this one. Our Panasonic had that button that you could push to stabilize it, so missing that feature, but overall we'd buy this little camera again!
What's great about it: Excellent video picture, fairly easy to use
What's not so great: POOR still pictures, hard to hold still without a tripod

My wife has wanted a new camcorder for years and with a new baby it was time to pull the trigger.
Here's what I like:
-Small. Really small. It feels sturdy for it's size.
-Simple to use. Touch screen makes good use of layering menus. Doesn't go to a blue screen.
-Easy to go from recording to watching at home, just finalize and put it in the DVD player. In a pinch, I can leave a DVD unfinalized then go back and finalize it when I have time.
-Built in Lens cap. Having one tied to the front is annoying and I am forever losing them if I take it off, with the 610, I slide the switch and it's there.

Purchased Accessories:
Sony case and battery combo - nice, but the case is almost too small for a power cord and everything I take with. Usually I am putting the power cable in my tripod bag, if I am taking it with. If I am not using the tripod, then I just have to deal with it.

Tripod - the 610 looks a little funny on a nice tripod. It's tiny and the better tripods tend to be beefier. Even still, a tripod is a good investment. I usually keep the tripod shoe attached to my device, but with the 610 it looks goofy, so I keep it in the tripod bag.
What's great about it: Compact, DVD format
What's not so great: No controls other than touchscreen. Mini DVD, would prefer full size

I had this camera for 2 days and it was a nightmare from the time I brought it home. Picture quality is terrible and I had to call Sony support in South America to find out how to do anything because the instructions didn't match the camera. After 2 days fooling with it I brought it back and got another brand that I'm extremely happy with. I don't recommend any of the camcorders with DVD's. It's so much better to have the internal hard drive.
What's great about it: Didn't find any
What's not so great: Photo's are fuzzy, operating instructions don't match the camcorder, very difficult to use, lots of steps to do 1 thing

This is a good Camcorder I got it right before x-mas and used it several times. I have had cameras before and when I use them by the sea or any place like that they have stopped working. This camera is great has good picture for me and I have used it in Jamaica and at several beaches and it is still working.
What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: non that I can think of

A friend at work recommended this camcorder and we bought it the day before our wedding and honeymoon so there wasn't any time to find out how to use it. I own a Sony Mavica CD camera so I was really excited to find a camcorder that recorded to DVD. We were already on board ship when we put in a DVD, pushed the Easy button and started taking several hours of video during our honeymoom. The 40x optical zoom feature is great but if you push it to fast its hard to hold the camera steady enough. The only complaint I have is if you put in a disk that is not Sony, it reminds you of that fact every time you open the camera. All in all for the money I would highly recommend it.
What's great about it: Lightweight, easy to use!

Great small lightweight camera. Makes it easy to carry with you. I have a newborn and there is plenty of stuff to carry as it is. This camera also takes great digital photos and records very well.
What's great about it: Small and light weight. Great digital pics
What's not so great: Must purchase seperate memory card to take digital shots

This is a great camera that is perfect for recording my newborn little girl to capture all those special moments. The fact that it takes pictures too is perfect instead of having to purchase a digital camera to take pictures. No problems with it yet and came in handy to record the damage hurricane Dolly left here at my house.

Since the buttons for still pictures and moving pictures are so close to each other, it is easy to press the wrong one, especially when in a hurry to record an action shot or when the sunlight is facing the screen and I cannot read the screen clearly. It is kind of confusing and it ruined my moving pictures, because I pressed the wrong button.
What's great about it: lightweight, mini dvd format is convenient
What's not so great: buttons too close together

Bought it to film kids and sports and works great. The night view was perfect for the 4th of July, captured everyone. Small size makes it perfect to carry anywhere.

Overall this is a good camera. I have been using it for almost a year now. It is very easy to record onto a mini dvd and just pop it in your dvd player to watch. The only complaint I have is the quality of the digital picture option. You can shoot digital pictures with this camcorder and view them on an external card or on the camera itself. They are fairly poor quality images, but that is why they make digital cameras separate from camcorders i guess.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: low quality pictures
