What's great about it: Simple to set up, even by someone who is not too computer savy!
What's not so great: Range definitely could be better, I hate the blue light!

"I'm very confused by all of the bad reviews. I set this router up in about 15 minutes...and I am NOT very computer savy. It was simple. The range could be a little better on my OLDER computers which have a USB wireless receiver - I need to upgrade the USB receivers (something NETGEAR clearly states on the router's box) & I think I'll be in business. My Dell Laptop which is located on the first floor of my house (router is on 2nd) works great. Very fast and strong signal strength. Same goes for my husband's MAC - no matter where he is in the house, his computer is lightening fast on the N-Band.

My chief complaint is the circular blue light on the side of the router. My router is my bedroom and the light is ANNOYING at night. On this particular model, you cannot turn it off. I slapped a piece of duct tape on it to cover it, that did the trick.

I wouldn't hesitate to get this router - one tip I saw on someon's review helped in the set up process - make sure you designate separate SSID's for the G band & N band - that way your wireless device can select which to jump onto. My husband's MAC is using the N band, my Dell the G. Designating the SSID's makes life a lot easier (and avoids being kicked off of the internet as some have stated...that has not happened to me yet!). The best place to set up the router's SSID's and Passcodes is at www.routerlogin.net - it even will update your firmware if need be. The login & password are found on the router itself by the serial number!

What's great about it: Easy to setup.
What's not so great: Poor range, slow

"I bought this to upgrade from my D-Link N Router. Since I've switched, my speed has slowed down and I'm getting slower ping rates during online gaming. The 5GHz bandwidth has a terrible range and dropped off dramatically by moving the router from my living room to an office near the center of the house. I'm planning on returning the product to either try a different one or go back to my D-Link (which was not nearly as easy to setup)."

What's great about it: Fantastic set up
What's not so great: Nothing!!!

"Ignore any bad reviews!!! I've had several routers before and this one is nothing short of amazing!
The setup was so easy I havnt stopped talking about it for two days and this thing has the best signal and range I've ever seen.
I havnt had a single signal drop yet and the range is awesome!
I have one pc a laptop two iPhones and a wii all using it and we couldn't be happier!
If you need a router and don't want any signal loss look no further!

What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: Stopped working after 20 min.

"On the plus side, this router was easy to set up. I opened the box, followed the instructions and got it working in 25-30 minutes. Installed it in the basement and the connection speeds to my 2nd floor machines were decent (but not great). Things seemed to be fine, but the router stopped working after about 20 minutes online. I couldn't get it to respond at all. I tried the restart button, but that didn't work. Plugged my laptop into the modem, went online and tried some suggestions from various Netgear forums, but nothing seemed to work.

An IT guy at work said that Netgear has pretty poor quality control. "If you get a piece of equipment that works, they're usually good. Getting one that works is a roll of the dice, though." So I took it back and got an Airport Extreme instead. Much happier and no problems whatsoever.

What's great about it: EASY setup with Windows 7
What's not so great: Signal could be a little better

"Had NO problems with Windows 7 64 bit. Easy setup with decent coverage area. Luckily, my home is not huge...if yours is, maybe think twice. Blue light on side DOESN'T NEED TO BE ON. Alot of people say this bugs them and I agree but JUST TURN IT OFF! The unit still works with or without it. This unit does the trick for me and my family connecting 2 computers, Wii, and a WIFI blu ray player."

What's great about it: Easy set up with windows 7, Great connection 100%full bars @ all times!
What's not so great: sticker hard to peel off at the back of the ports during installation

"Great wireless router, never lost connection. Used with two sony notebooks with build in wireless connection. Easy set up using windows 7 only, never installed the cd. Looks awesome! Works great! Recommend it for N version usage. Had problems with linksys N version model wrt610n with no connection difficult to install returned it within a week and bought this Netgear. Loving it, fast speed connection. Does everything the package says its suppose to do."

"The 5GH wireless N band works great with my xbox and hasnt yet dropped the signal, my problem is with the low bandwith 2.4GH. It constantly drops with my internet browsing. I cant stand it. I like this router but i would save my money and look for another router but stick with netgear"

What's great about it: Quick and easy setup, fast connection speeds
What's not so great: Short range of wireless "N",

"This product is quite nice yet has limited range of use. I can not take my labtop from my living room to the bathroom, (Maybe 30 ft.) without losing connection to the 5.0 (Wireless N) connection. Works very well when your within the same room.

If you look around I'm sure that you can find a better product. Stick with net-gear though you can not go wrong with that name brand.

What's great about it: Very easy to install and maintain
What's not so great: Shortest range of any wireless N router I've used

"I purchased this router 2 months ago after my previous Netgear Max Range N died. It had great range and didn't drop connections. After 3 years of technology advances, I expected the same or better from this router. The Best Buy consultant recommended it after I told him what I was previously using.

Setup was a breeze. Remember to give the two bands different SSIDs if you're going to use both. I did that originally so didn't have the problem others mentioned. If you're replacing another Netgear router, use the same SSID as your previous router and setup is even faster.

My issue is with range. There is none. I have to use the low band connection to get any range. The upper band hardly works, even 12ft away from the router in the same hall. Connection drops constantly on both bands.

The upper band has great speed if you can get close enough to maintain your signal. For me that means having to go the same room as the router, which isn't why I have laptops and wireless routers.

I still believe Netgear is the best router out there, but this isn't one of their best offerings. Pass on it if you can.

What's great about it: WORKS GREAT IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SET IT UP
What's not so great: ONLY FOR ADVANCED USERS WITH KNOWLEDGE OF NETWORKING

"I HAD TO WRITE THIS REVIEW IN REPSPONSE TO ALL THE REVIEWS I READ.I JUST PURCHASED THIS TO REPLACE A DLINK G BAND THAT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR 2 YEARS WANTED TO UPGRADE TO THE N BAND.
I MUST SAY I BOUGHT THIS UNIT AND THEN READ THE REVIEWS AND THOUGHT THAT I HAD MADE A MISTAKE. Out of 99 reviews almost 80 percent state that the unit drops connection. This is a very good Router its transmits on the G side at 2.4ghz at 270 mbps or you can chose to Transmit on the 5.-Ghz side as well. I have 10 deivces running in the house 3 iphones using the network, two desktops 1 laptop and 1 Mac laptop. I Roku for streaming Movies on Neflix and one PS3 and Xbox360. 10 Total that were all sharing the GBand. I have turned on the 5.Ghz side and have moved the two laptops to the N side on 5.ghz and there fast. There is some limitations to turning on the 5 GHz band and using both the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz at the same time the N side is Running at 220 mbps but the G is limited to 54mbps but most pci cards and old equipment is maxed at 54mbps so you dont lose everything. THE REASON SOME MANY ARE LOSING CONNECTIONS IS PROBALY BECAUSE IN THE SETUP IT GIVE YOU THE OPTION OF TURNING ON BOTH 2.4 AND 5GHZ AND IT ASK YOU FOR THE SSID I BET ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE USING THE SAME SSID ON BOTH BANDS AND THAT IS CREATING THE PROBLEM. I KNOW I DID THAT AT FIRST AND IT CONFUSED THE EQUIPMENT IN THE HOUSE TRYING TO CONNECT TO BOTH AND JUMPING BACK AND FORTH. SETUP WAS HARD AT FIRST BUT AFTER YOU GET THE HANG OF IT THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEMS. DONT GIVE UP ON USING THE ROUTER I STREAMED A MOVIE LAST NIGHT FOR HOURS WHILE MY SON USED THE PS3 ONLINE AND WIFE WAS ON LAPTOP. WITH 10 DEVICES IN THE HOUSE MY HOPE IS TO RUN 5 ON THE G SIDE LIKE THE DESKTOPS WHICH ARE MAINLY USED FOR INTERNET AND EMAIL AND THE GAME CONSOLES AND NEW LAPTOPS INCLUDING THE MAC ON THE 5.0GHZ SIDE ON N BAND TO SPLIT THE TRAFFIC UP. THE PROBLEMS YOUR READING ABOUT IN THE REVIEWS ARE MAINLY DUE TO IMPROPER SETUP OF THE ROUTER. I GIVE IT A APLUS AND EVEN IF IT GOES OUT IN A YEAR IT WASNT THAT MUCH AT 99 DOLLARS. REMEMBER IF YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE THIS ROUTER IS NOT FOR YOU.

What's great about it: Not Much
What's not so great: Will not install with Windows Vista 64 Bit, Connectivity, Blue Strobe Light, No hard copy manuals included

"I purchased this router to replace a Netgear 834 wireless router that I have had for several years which had worked great, no connectivity issues. When I tried to install the WNDR3300 after I inserted the installation disc, it halted immediately, refused to continue, and said you cannot install using a computer with Windows Vista 64 bit. The box said it worked with Vista and provided no disclaimer about not being able to install using Vista 64 bit. Fortunately my other computer had Vista 32 bit. So I had to start over using that computer. The installation then went smoothly including secuirty set-up. However, once finished it dumped me out at their on-line website with no clue how to continue to connect computers and wireless printers wirelessly. Since no manual is included I had to search the website for a downloadable manual then read it to figure out the next steps to take. The computer with the Vista 64 bit connected as well as my HP 7280 wireless printer. However, my other computer had problems printing. Recall I had no issues with the previous Netgear wireless router using these same two computers and printer. I was eventually able to make it work. I also was able to connect with my iPhone. However, it drops connectivity very often and it does not have the range the previous router had within my home. I also tried using it with my work computer and even when the computer was right next to the router, it would consistently drop connection. It doesn't matter if I connect to the 2.4GHZ or 5 GHZ side. The unit belongs in the trash and will be replaced ASAP. One last item is the large blue strobe light on the side, it will drive you crazy and is worse that a Blue Light Special at KMart. It lights up an entire room. I went from someone that recommended Netgear to the opposite. This unit is a disaster. I would not recommend it."

What's great about it: Easy set up...
What's not so great: Disconnects often, and I mean OFTEN

"At $100 bucks you would think this would be a top shelf router. Think again, the set up was easy and then after that the nightmare begins. It says its dual band but both bands don't work simultaneously. It keeps switching back and forth and is very annoying when your trying to surf the web. I am exchanging it tomorrow for another wireless N and this time a single band. If you need a dual band than spend the extra and get the WNDR3700. What a headache. I wish I read the reviews before I bought. The sad thing is the BestBuy Representative recommended router to me. Overall im pretty disappointed."

What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: MANY random disconnects

"This router will disconnect very frequently for no known reason. I have followed all the instructions on the NetGear tech support site and it does not work. This router will drop the connection at least 30+ times a day. I am taking this back and will never buy another NetGear product. Go to the NetGear support website before you buy this and read about "problems with connections" before you buy."

What's great about it: Supported by DD-WRT, 5 GHz N
What's not so great: Poor internal antennas, worse performance at any range than a G router with antenna

"I bought this to add the capability of streaming MythTV high definition video recordings to my new Asus laptop. The 2.4 GHz G band is rather crowded in my apartment, so my old router (Buffalo WHR-G54S running DD-WRT firmware) has a Hawking 500 mW amplifier and a sector antenna bought from BB last year connected to it. It provides solid 100% signal strength and performance throughout my apartment, but doesn't quite cut it for HD Myth recordings.

I bought this because it was the only unit readily available in a store that supported N in the 5 GHz band and supported alternate firmware. (2.4 GHz N is a bad idea unless you're in a farmhouse with no b/g devices anywhere nearby.) I've never had good results with stock firmware from any brand, especially Netgear, so support for some form of Linux-based firmware was critical.

I set this unit up so that it would have a clear line of sight to my bed with the bedroom door open. Despite having line of sight at a range of about 10 feet (the G router is on the other side of a wall and 30-40 feet away), it stuttered MORE when streaming Myth recordings. Yes, that's right, even at half the range with clear LOS, it's worse than a G router with minor upgrades that cost less in total than this unit.

Unfortunately, this unit has no provisions for external antennas, so the same upgrades can't be performed on it. As a result it will be getting returned tomorrow and I will be purchasing carrier-grade equipment that comes with Linux-based firmware stock.

What's great about it: Ease of setup and connectivity to my Wii as well as a desktop and laptop all at the same time with no issues.
What's not so great: I took too long in making the change from the disastrous Belkin router the this Great Router

"I had a Belkin F5D9230 wireless G plus MIMO router and would continually get kicked off my online game playing for my Wii, I tried everything, changing channels, changing location of router, changing security settings and nothing would work, called Belkin, they said that it was the game server problem. I would even try to download music as well as software from the internet including Microsoft and Blackberry and I would get stalled downloads and failed attempts. Finally broke down, did some research and found this router, excellent choice. Easy setup and installation went seamlessly. I can play my Wii without getting kicked off and am able to host games now. Great router and very, very happy with it. I am not easy to please, fast food isn't fast enough, so this router COOKS."

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: hard to set up, the duo band keeps switching back and forth. Contantly kicks you off the internet

"our linkys router broke over time, we decided to go with this product. what a mistake. the duo band feature does not help, as a matter of fact it is very confusing, even to the wireless computers. the computers constantly switch back and forth between the bands, your connection is always disrupted, if someone is on one band the other person in your house gets kicked off the other band. this product was really hard to set up too. I would not recommend this to an average user."

What's great about it: There is absolutely no reason to buy this product.
What's not so great: If you need installation help, you can ether go on line or call a pay service.

"I'm not an I.T. specialist (apparently Netgear presumes most of its customers are), but I have set up home and small office networks throughout my lifetime. Routers are usually simple. You plug them in; the PC finds them. The box for this particular product just says "push and connect." It is by no means that simple.

I spent two long frustrating hours trying to figure out why the router needed an internet connection in order to complete the internet connection. I plugged directly into the modem and that worked fine. If I only had one computer, that would have been problem solved. What makes this product infuriating is the absolutly lack of a technical support number you can call. There's a Web site to which you can go, absolutely no help when you can't get online, and there's a pay service you can call.

Don't buy this product. Seriously! I would have given it a negative rating if I could have. I put it back in the box and took it back the next day.
