What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: connection keeps dropping

"This is one of the item that I purchased before researching. My D-link router of 2 years got toasted when I connected a 10v power from my modem to the wireless router by mistake. BB was closed on Sunday at 7pm and I had to buy this from Walmart due to lack of options. Eventhough setting up this was easy, I found that my connection kept dropping both on my notebook and my desktop. My D-link never did this. I connect to VPNs for my work and end up logging into all of them again everytime this happens. And it is not even 24 hrs since I bought this.
I also read from the reviews that is it not a true dual band.
I will be returning this.

What's great about it: Easy Set-Up; Great Range; Everything!
What's not so great: Nothing thus far

"The installation process on this router is very straight-forward and easy to follow via the manual. There was, however, a small problem with the instructions: the manual states that after all of the wires have been correctly attached and every device, i.e. comp, router and modem, turned on, every light including the power, 2.4Ghz, wireless and LAN lights, and except the 5.0Ghz light are supposed to bit lit to their respective colors. When I did the above steps, every light, including the 5.0Ghz light was lit, which caused me a great deal of confusion. I thought something was wrong, but I decided to let the router, modem and comp finish "connecting" and viola, I got an internet connection and all was good.

Others have noted that the range on the router is not all that great, but I tested out the range myself and found it to be very wide. For example, the router is placed on a shelf about 4-5 ft high in my sister's room, located at the top left hand corner of our house (bird's eye view). I have successfully received wireless internet from my router in the back yard, behind the chimney, kitchen, and front yard - areas that are at the opposite end of the house from my sister's room - with, if not exactly, the same amount of speed at each location.

There is one minor fault about the router, though, but I think it may not even be the router's own doing. We have a total of 4 computers (1 imac desktop and 3 macbooks) and an iTouch that use the same internet (not all at once, though, but most of the time) and that sometimes causes lag, which is quite annoying. Again, I'm not sure if its the router or my very own DSL's (I have the basic from AT&T) fault, but would anyone happen to know?

All in all, this is great router and I highly recommend it to anyone!

What's great about it: Faster that wireless g protocol, extended range,
What's not so great: Not easy to install

"I bought this to upgrade my home wireless network from 802.11g to 802.11n. Using the 802.11g protocol was too slow if more than one computer was on the network.
Apart from some difficulty setting it up, I've had no problems. Both my notebook and my wife's notebook are still using the 802.11g wireless protocols without adapters and this thing flies.

What's great about it: Wireless N works fine.
What's not so great: Wireless G disconnects every 20-60 minutes.

"I wish I researched online before I bought this router.
This router is so unreliable.
I have many laptops, all connected via wireless.
Some via N and some via G.
Once every 20-60 minutes, all laptops connected via G lose connection.
It takes about a minute for the connection to correct itself.
And that's long enough to kill the online game or streaming video.
I'm returning this product for another brand today.
I definitely don't recommend getting this product.

What's great about it: Top end speeds, LOTS of features and customizable options...
What's not so great: Lack of Gigabit switch, only 10/100

"Bought this to replace an aging, failing D-Link dir-615.

The Dlink was great while it lived, but this Netgear (always been a Netgear fan) just blows it out of the water!

Setup was a breeze (I didn't even use the included easy setup disc, preferring to handle such things myself). I configured WPA2 on my wireless side on Band 1 and basic WEP on a less restricted (public) side for Band 2 (primarily for guest users).

The customizable options for web filtering and IP access restrictions (which computer can access the web and when) are awesome for parents, as you can easily setup your kids computers to lose internet access at a certain time, as well as restrict/allow only certain websites.

All in all, even if you are balking at the price tag for a router, the features and extended range/higher wireless speeds make this a value.

Go now, get it, go on... It's ok, I promise!! ;)

"I wish I would have read online threads on this before I bought this. It worked great for a few months, but now it disconnects randomly. Netgear hasn't acknowledged the problem from what I can gather. I would definitely return this if it wasn't too late...my loss though. Don't let yourself fall in the same position."

What's great about it: Fast when it works...
What's not so great: But it kicks you off all the time and has a hard time reconnecting.

"The software warranty is only for a short time and it seems like shortly after that the router goes crazy. It drops my connection ALL the time at home and work (I got suckered into 2 of them). This is not good when you are online all day long. When I called their support number, they try to get you to upgrade your support status because it is out of date at a cost close or equal to the cost of the router. DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER."

What's great about it: speed, ability to keep up with tons of connections, and
What's not so great: Nothing yet... oh that big blue dome is bleh but so far so good, let's see if it fails me....

"So far this thing is handling like a champ. Time warner internet provide, I have 1 macbook, 2 macbook pro (wireless N), 1 imac, 2 iphones (wireless G), 1 ipod touch, 1 ps3(G), 1 wii, and one ethernet connected printer, all holding up to its bargain. this router is FAST and the range is very nice for wireless N. I've set up tons of routers before so I bypassed the "setup cd". all you really need to do is make sure both router and modems are unplugged, then plug in modem first, have the ethernet from modem go to the yellow ethernet port on the router, wait till modem boots up, then plug in the power for the router, all set up can be done by going to http://routerlogin.net default login: admin, and default password: password. you can rename the SSID and add a WEP or WPA security. It took me minutes. I'll write another review if the router dies. i had the belkin N150 before this and it was not friendly to apple products and kept dropping."

What's great about it: Easy to set up, high speed
What's not so great: Loses connection, extremely poor range, dome light

"Out of the box, this will lose connection every 20 - 60 minutes, forcing a network downtime of one minute (it claims the wireless network was compromised). You have to set the MTU to 1492 (from 1500) to fix this.

Line of sight, right next to the unit, I get 25Mbps, which is what I'd expect from my connection speed. 20 feet away it drops to 10Mbps (still line of sight). 33 Feet away I get 8Mbps. 34 feet away I get 0 on the N-band, and have to switch to G. Netgear told me to replace the unit, so I returned it and got another. Same exact problems. N-band is supposed to get 70Mbps at 300 feet. This router clearly falls far short.

What's great about it: Looks good, easy to setup
What's not so great: Failed after 2 months, poor, rude tech support

"Worked great out of the box, but within two months, slowly started failing- internet intermittant. Same with wireless and wired into router. We have 5 pc's and two Tivo's on our network, so problem isolated to the router. Three calls to tech support with long wait times, endless configuration changes, later, was finally told they would replace router. The "free" option involves the customer paying to mail the broken router in and then within 2 weeks of receiving it, they will mail a replacement. The $16.99 option involves them mailing a new one within 5 days with a return mailing label for the old one. The people are impatient and at times outright rude.

I am a longtime Netgear customer, but probably not anymore. I usuaally don't get more than 2 1/2 years out of my wireless routers, but 2 months is just not that long.

"The initial setup and running of this router was great. I was initially very impressed with this and then one day it just died. Can't get any network connection on the wired or wireless. What's great about it: Cost effective dual channel solution
What's not so great: Signal strength on 5ghz isn't as good as it could be.

"It's rather decent dual channel (2.4ghz/5ghz) unit from netgear.
One thing to note, 2.4ghz is reserved for up to g network, You can use n only on 5ghz... on original firmware.
Problem is, lot of cheaper notebook only comes with 2.4ghz wireless N which makes it impossible to connect to unit at N speed.
One major advantage of this unit is... it has DD-WRT available. This does help with 2.4ghz issue on wireless N and some of reception issues. Not to mention much more functionality and stability. Once DD-WRT is installed, this unit turns into 5 star on all account. ** Installing DD-WRT means your warranty is gone and don't return broken router by your fault to store! **

What's great about it: Easy to set up, great support, fast data transfer
What's not so great: NONE

"I just bought this router today and had to wrtie a review. I first had some issues with the intial setup (admin privledges) but I called Netgear and with in minutes they had me up and running. At first I thought this would be a head ache but no worries. I live in a two story condo and it works great, the data transfer rate is fast, I tested this with youtube and its great. Hope this review helps others make a good decision. I paid just $10.00 extra for this router because of the extra features and I feel its worth it. I work from home about 45% of the time and being able to use my laptop around makes its that much more benificial."

What's great about it: Word filter, power saving mode
What's not so great: CD set up 32-bit only, limited 2.4 Ghz speeds, bright blue, reception por compaired to belkin N+

"says it will broadcast 5 and 2.4 Ghz at the same time but I can't get any G device to recognize it. max speed is 270 Mbps at 5 Ghz. Max speed for 2.4 Ghz is 54 Mbps.. 2.4 reception almost nothing. Big bright blue light on top is blinding. Good thing you can turn it off.

Set up CD only for 32-bit windows operating system. To set up manualy you need a LOL internet conection to read or PDF reader. I just instal windows so I did't have PDF yet. would of been nice if they provided a basic PDF reader software.

The few things I did like about it was word filter for web sites and schedualed wireless broscast times. Power saving mode pretty standard with routers now.

I was testing out to compair to a Belkin N+ I just got. I highly recomend the Belkin over this. Netgear can not compete. Should of listened to every one about Netgear.

I was recycling my router just to make sure the connection was good and when I powered it up, all the port lights came on and stayed on..... not the power or transmission lights...
Netgear told me it was a hardware error and I would have to get another router...especially since I am out (just barely) of the 1 year warranty plan. The Netgear tech told me he has gotten many complaints about the same thing happening to other customers with this unit...... Stay clear!

This router sucks.   05/21/2009
By cam2009 from NC

What's great about it: Not too hard to get up and running
What's not so great: Unable to keep a signal. I'm constantly having to tell my computer to connect to wireless network.

"I've had Dlink, Linksys and Netgear routers before. Have gone from wireless G to Wireless N, rangemax, etc. to try to increase coverage area.Nothing seems to actually increase the range other than maybe a couple of feets. Unfortuately, this Netgear router is the worst (maybe I got a bad one). I can not keep computers connected to wireless network or internet. Am constantly having to tell it to re-connect and then sometimes that doesn't even work. I'm am so frustrated it isn't funny. Even disconnected from network as I was writing this review and I can't seem to get it to connect."

Hidden Benefits - Great Router   05/06/2009
By Raymondm4 from Goose Creek, SC

What's great about it: Longer range Great signal strength
What's not so great: Price - but its worth it

"Although I actually have the DGND3300 the only difference between the DGND3300 and the WNDR3300 is that my router (DGND3300) also has the integrated DSL modem. I am an IT manager with a full network at home. The problem I was having concerned my modem disconnecting/resetting and my wireless monitoring camera (on the opposite side of the house) having too weak of a signal to stay connected and send a steady stream of video. The last router I had was dual band with two external, adjustable antennas that I had to adjust along with the box itself to get any kind of signal to the other side of the house (literally had it hanging from a nail on the wall). My wireless devises all use 802.11g and not 802.11n so I was worried that the range that this router advertised, like with most Wireless N routers only refer to the range while connected with wireless N (802.11n) devices.
.
This Router has two important features that separate it from others for me.
.
First the router has eight antennas in a circular pattern around the big button on the top. This allows you to place the router any way you want to and get the same signal strength. There are no antennas to adjust.
Second, the router provides a longer range for all of the wireless protocols. This means that you don’t have to buy a new wireless N (802.11n) device to get the benefit of a stronger signal. The desktop I have at the far end of the house was only getting 2 bars @ 24Mbps with the old router (business class Linksys WRV200). This new router brung it up to 4 bars @ 48Mbps.
.
From a pure IT standpoint, it lacks management features like the ability to see the signal strength of the devices connected to it, and the ability to adjust the general signal strength for people that want to fine tune the range. 3COM has an access point the kicks @#! with the most management features I have ever seen in a wireless device, period. And the cost reflects it. But for the home, Netgear’s WNDR3300 and DGND3300 routers ROCK! If you have DSL go to the store (it’s not listed online yet) and by the DGND3300. The DGND3300 router/modem eliminates your old modem and consolidates it all into one device.
