Worst Company   03/24/2009
By Stela from Atl

What's not so great: Horrible cust service, not user friendly

"Ever since I bought this router, its been a headache to use. The only time I got it to work is after speaking to cust serv and trying to understand the personn on the other line. The hold times are extremely long and now I'm told after 90 days you have to pay for any tech support you are given. There is no chat service just email service with a 24 hour response time. I can't even get them to help me set up the router on a new computer. This company sucks."

Took it back ASAP   03/06/2009
By Santi325 from Madison, WI

What's great about it: Decent Price
What's not so great: Didn't want to accept the default username and password, called netgear and they didn't want to pick up.

"So I was contemplating between this router and a NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router. And I chose this. I came home to set up and it took forever. When it asked me for my username and password I simply put the defaults in and waited. They didn't work. I tried and tried again until I called Netgear. They kept telling me, "All of our technical support agents are busy helping other customers like you." So I simply went back to best buy to get the NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router but they were sold out. Instead I bought a Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Wireless Router and I love it. I recommend it to everyone."

Buyer beware   03/03/2009
By Alexvv from merced, ca

What's great about it: very easy to set up
What's not so great: drops signal, buggy security, slow connection

"I recently bought this at my nearest Best Buy for ~100. Looked like a great deal had everything I needed to upgrade from my G router. Set up was a breeze.

The encryption gave me a headache though. WEP worked just fine, hooked everything up, and then I tried to turn up the protection with WPA. Long story short. Headache and nothing connected.

When the router was working and I had everything connected, it dropped connection to my ps3 online at least every 4 minutes. I thought to myself that this should be a good product and I will give it at least a week, but it was the same story every day. Finally returned it back to Best Buy and bought The D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme Wireless Router.

This D-link router is amazing. Set up wasn't as easy as the netgear, but does this router preform. Have my both my kids, wife's computer and all our gaming consoles. Not even one disconnect, and it's fast. I have been playing a lot of killzone 2 lately and not one hiccup.

Upgraded to stronger router   02/22/2009
By jnmrlk from Upstate NY

What's great about it: Have not got it to work yet
What's not so great: No customer support

"Purchased this as recommended by BB employee for 2 xboxes, PS and laptop. Currently have a Belkin wireless G - that worked okay but the kids complained about speed and range. Okay I upgrade to this. Followed the set up step by step - does not 'see" the router - called my isp they tell me my broadband is fine it's the router and they don't do router set ups. I call Netgear and am hold for a long, long, long time. Finally they prompt me to leave my name and number and advise me they will call back.
Now my wireless does not work at all, can't even rehook up the Belkin. Internet works on my desktop but have no wireless and no-one wants to help which means I will have to pay some-one to come here to do it for me. For 100 + I am very unhappy - don't buy this unless you know what you are doing - it is NOT plug and play. Now the kids are unhappy and I cannot work on my laptop.
BTW - NETGEAR NEVER called back.

Very Good Router   02/20/2009
By Samwthe3

What's great about it: Perfromance, Dual-Band, Easy Interface
What's not so great: Not True Dual Band, Draft-N Needs An Update

"Great Router

A few cons:

Not true dual band:
270mps-5ghz and 54mps-2.4ghz
Needs a firmware upgrade to fix buggy Wireless-N

Thats it.

Remember must port forward when streaming on any router
Also disable SIP ALG in the WAN Setup of the router manual configuration:
This is known as Session Initiation Protocol, a signaling protocol, tells the router port changes and vauleable info to stream.
Make sure to enable the securtiy to at least WPA-PSK(TKIP)

Once Netgear release an update fixing the wireless buggy 5ghz, this router is 5 STAR!

BEST ROUTER EVER   02/19/2009
By DrXperimentX

What's great about it: EVERYTHING
What's not so great: TENDS TO DROP SIGNAL WHEN I ACTIVATE WIRELESS G

"Pro:Thiis router is the best. I upgraded from a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router. The router seems to operate better when i have 2.4Ghtz N on. In my room i can get 108mbps with 4 bars.

Cons: when i use my wireless g products there is a tendency of signal drop.

Very good dual band router for the money   02/17/2009
By nahoma from San Francisco, CA

What's great about it: Just works, no drop connections and no more reboots (read below to find out why)
What's not so great: None

"I bought this router in May 2008 and have been very happy with the results. Initially some self-inflicted headaches ... I was screwing with the fractional network by adjusting the network mask and gotten into trouble (self rebooted couple of times). I also didn't fully understand that I needed two different SSIDs, one for 802.11g and one for 802.11n.

Now running with the latest non-beta firmware, v.1.0.29, the mask at 255.255.255.0, and MAC address only security, the performance has been very good and solid. I set it vertically and the thermodynamics is excellent, barely feel the heat and it is on 24x7x365.

When everyone is home, incl. downstairs tenants, we could potentially have various combination of iPhones, laptops, and wired PCs sharing a broadband connection.

And yes, you can turn off the funky strobe lights by simply pressing down on the dome.

Taking it back immediately   02/01/2009
By BraAbi9307 from Rockford, IL

What's not so great: lost wireless internet connection multiple times, too tall to stand up in my tv stand

"I just purchased this router today. Set-up was easy once I got to it. We were replacing an old router and the speed is not better. If anything it actually seems slower. It actually says on the box that maximum performace REQUIRES us with rangemax dual band wireless-n adapters. Which is additional cost the to $100 price tag.

My laptop has lost internet connection 6 times in the last 30 minutes it has been connected. 4 of those times it took me a while to get the connection back. I am just hoping I can keep it long enough to send this review.

I will be returning this as soon as I am done.

Worst router ever   02/01/2009
By jrmy from Atlanta, Ga

What's great about it: N/A
What's not so great: Horrible range, have to reset constantly, always dropping signal

"This is the worst router I have ever owned. In fact I had to go back to my old router. It was suppose to be best bang for buck router at the time but it was far from that. I own a ranch house that is maybe 1900 square feet and I could not get it to reach from the office to the living room. When it did reach I had to constantly reset the router because the connection would not last long."

A router that works!   01/26/2009
By Danimal77 from Locust Grove, VA

What's great about it: Easy set up, secure, reliable, good range
What's not so great: Nice price for "N", BRIGHT blue light can double as a night light for my whole 2nd floor

"Linksys version failed miserably. This works perfectly as you'd expect it to do so. Easy install using CD, as I'm not a whiz. Great speeds and great range. I have the router on my 2nd floor, and I have full signal strength in my basement (2 floors down) on opposite side of house (2500 sq ft). I have a new laptop using Vista, and there are no issues through wireless or hard wired connection.

Buy it!

Works Perfect   01/18/2009
By string0716 from Smithtown, NY

What's great about it: It works! Customer service and Net Gear helped with setup
What's not so great: Set up did not go smooth until I called and they were great.

"I went ot BB to buy a new Linksys Dual router after getting totally aggravated with my belkin N router. (which I had Belkin replace with a new router) and still not getting a strong signal. I was advised by friends to buy Linksys. While at BB in Setauket, I was able to "SPEAK WITH A GEEK" (sounds good, I should trademark that) and he told me that for the money, go with the Net Gear. (It was also about $30 cheaper) I was very hesitant but decided to try it out (I have 30 days), and if not satisfied, return it. Well, I am only 2 days into it and let me tell you, I am %100 satisfied! And to top that off, it is on sale for $99 so guess what, today I am going back to get that money back. It usually never works out to be this good!"

Know if it meets your needs - May be Perfect for u   01/09/2009
By PabloG

What's great about it: Works perfect if you need to connect a New computer with Wireless N AND older computers and devices that have b/g
What's not so great: Not the best for Range. Do you need to be more than 200 feet away? TURN OFF that BLUE light.

"I have to say this is an EXCELLENT product if it fits your needs.

Pros: Great Dual Band. Works perfect if you need to connect a New computer with Wireless N AND older computers and devices that have Wireless b/g. No problems with Vista unlike other routers. Good technical support. Performance is excellent within 50 feet of Router. Great within 100 feet of Router. Between 100 feet and 200 feet it is just Good.

Cons: If you need a long range router (5,000 sqaure foot house and router is at the other end and lot of interference in between) you may need to get a different router. Same if you have a large business. Turn OFF that BLUE light (tape works too) - it can drive you insane :-)

Bought a new HP HDX computer with wireless N and now have: Windows Vista x64, Windows XP on an older Dell, and a Mac. For me i wanted: Wireless N to be fast = connect to 5ghz, and Wireless b and g to be fast and connect to the 2.4ghz (b/c they can't connect to 5ghz). If you have a similar setup, to maximize your connection you need dual band.

If you don't want to take advantage of the faster 5ghz wireless N connection get a router that just does 2.4ghz. If you don't have anything (or anyone coming over) that needs to connect to 2.4ghz get a router that just does 5ghz. If you need BOTH at the SAME TIME = get a dual band router that can maximize the performance of all machines. At this price range, compared to other routers, the WNDR 3300 is great!

My old Linksys WRT54G v 3 was incompatable with Vista (confirmed by tech support at Linksys, Microsoft, AND HP despite what is posted on Linksys web-site). This was the replacement and have to say no problems, and very happy!

Excellent Choice for Gaming   12/20/2008
By Enginator

What's great about it: It actually works. Port forwarding, static routing, great connections.
What's not so great: The big blue dome light is a bit intrusive.

"I had an old netgear router that came with Charter go out on me. I tried to go Linksys, but couldn't get the port forwarding to work for gaming. I'm an advanced user and know exactly what I'm doing. I was going to try the d-link but didn't like the price. This one actually works very good. When you forward a port, it gets forwarded...unlike with Linksys and sometimes d-link. It was easy to set up too. Just load the software and follow the steps. Even though I'm advanced, I highly recommend just using the wizard on the software - for ANY router."
