This was my second purchase of the Lycosa because I truly loved it. I used my first for 2 years until it died -which was totally acceptable. I'm a hard core gamer and used it a LOT. I purchased a second Lycosa in October of last year and have had nothing but problems. They keys get electronically stuck - try using your ASDW keys to move about in a game and your "A" key get stucks, spinning you in circles. The only fix for me is to disconnect the keyboard and reboot.
After contacting Razer, this is a KNOWN issue and they (and Best Buy for that matter) continue to sell these keyboards to the public. Their answer? Send us the keyboard and we'll send you a new one in TWO to THREE weeks. HELLO!! I'm a PC gamer - and you want me to go w/o my $90 keyboard for that long? Completely and totally unacceptable. STEER CLEAR of this keyboard as it's a gamble if you will get a good or bad unit.
FYI, I also bought the warranty in case I damaged/broke the keyboard. I refuse to use that warranty and be forced to spend another $15 buy coverage again on an issue that's a manufacturer defect.
This is just so disappointing as I'm generally a big fan of Razer products and I truly loved this keyboard the first time around.
What's great about it: Back lit, low profile, awesome feel
What's not so great: Known manufacturer's defect with sticky keys

I wanted this keyboard for the back lighting, I like blue. The price is up there and if you don't want the back lighting there are other keyboards that are cheaper with a heck of alot more functions. Also i haven't been happy that there realy hasn't been any changes to the software to include new features like interenet radio or pandora for the built in quick play keys. ik i could probably find away to hot key this, but i'm just not into that and it isn't a preset option with the razzer software. I don't use the razzer software with this keyboard because if i remember i think it caused some issues. once in a while the keyboard freaks out and would get stuck keys and so windows would disable them meaning that in the middle of typing out some papers or reports you'd suddenly notice your missing all the "p"'s or something like that and you either have to unplugg the keyboard or restart . Not to bash the keyboard i like it it feels nice to me and i really like having the back lit keys, but idt i'll be buying another razzer keyboard there just to dang expensive.
What's great about it: back light, lowprofile keys, spill proof easy to disasemble for a major cleaning
What's not so great: price lacks function price and lack of software updates
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

As with the Razer Naga MMO gaming mouse, this keyboard has MAJOR issues. Within a month of purchase, it stopped recognizing keypresses on several important keys. Once I unplugged the USB expansion ports and just left the keyboard plugged in, it functioned okay, but this is just absurd. Cannot recommend you stay away from Razer products enough.
What's great about it: Looks sharp.
What's not so great: Falls apart quickly. Major quality control issues.

So far ive loved the design of the keyboard and the use of the lighting to use it in a dim room and still see it. HOWEVER, ive had the unit for a little over 4 weeks now and it has caused a blue screen of death 3 times so far. It has also caused my keys to stick (Sticky keys not enabled on my pc) making my character run in one direction non stop until i unplug the keyboard. Big issue if playing a game online where pausing isnt an option. Without these issues i would give the product an AMAZING rating but because if it i couldn't recommend it. Ive done research and people suggest using the Microsoft drivers instead of the ones it came with. I hope this fixes the issue or i will be returning to my old keyboard.
What's great about it: Keys make it a great keyboard to use in the dark
What's not so great: Crashes during use, "NUM lock and CAPS lock" lights are FAR too bright and have to be covered
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Packaging: Very well done.
Removal: Got the keyboard out and it was amazing looking. First thought though was "Oh f*** glossy finish. I'm gonna mess this mother f***er up." I have 3 computers so I put it on each one to test it:
Windows XP: Plugin, install, go. No faults yet.
Windows Vista and 7: See Media Keys.
Keys: Rubber finish is great my fingers don't slip and hit other keys but the adjustment moving them to the left a bit was a change for me so I was typing gibberish for days.
Media Keys: Works great for when I'm in a game. I got nearly 12,000 songs so sometimes I like to skip them because stupid WMP is replaying the same one again. Windows Vista and 7 is where the media key issues that is all over the net started up on these OSs. Honestly I've found no fix for this so I just kill the program on Task Manager and restart it and it works. People say unplugging it and stuff work. NO. It's not the keyboard. It's the program. Some keyboards did have an issue but those should be gone by now. A lil annoying but hey... this was on sale for 50 bucks. I am not gonna complain about a small hoop I gotta jump through because they failed to program the way it operates properally. Their fault. They need to update it.
Light: It's a light... On Off WASD (who needs that one? idiots who don't remember how to move?) and it's blue. My favorite color. I now play in the dark sometimes now for Dead Space or something scary.
What's great about it: Lights, Rubber Keys, Macros, Media Keys
What's not so great: Programming for Media Keys, Gloss Finish
I would recommend this to a friend!

This keyboard was a waste of money. Within 1 minute of installing the drivers, the keyboard would lock up and the only way to fix is to unplug then replug the keyboard in. Uninstalled the drivers and tried using Windows 7 drivers, same result. Looked online and it seems this keyboard is plagued with this issue. Will be returning it and getting a Logitech instead.

i bought this keyboard yesterday to play games on my computer and some of the keys were stiff that got me really mad the backlight is ok expected it to be a bit brighter but the install was really fast in about 7 seconds i was ready to use it also i like that i can change the volume of my surround system easy just with a touch of the touch pad in the keyboard

It is a pretty good dam looking keyboard but is very hard to play games with this keyboard.
Specially if your game need a high apm with the #'s in the , is hard to press them at a high rate since you have to hit it vertically for the keystroke, fro example in SC2 i hard to play with this keyboard because i need to press the number keys on the top of the letters, and is very uncomfortable because i have to press them very hard for them to work.
Also this is my sixth day and i am going to replace it, is though is very good to type but not so good for high apm gaming. Also some of the touch-pad functions stopped working(the one that make a software player play)
What's great about it: Good looks and anti-slip keyboard
What's not so great: you have to presses number keys of the keyboard hard when you are playing in high apm or spamming in a game
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does what it claims, keyboard lighting pretty dim, and you can only program 10 profiles. I had an occasion to contact support, but after a couple auto-responses and several days of waiting, a couple back and forth emails with a human, my issue was finally resolved to my satisfaction. So, minus a star for slow support.
I took off another star since Best Buy sells this keyboard at 12.5% ABOVE suggested retail. So take it to Customer Service and ask them to sell it to you for RETAIL. Can't hurt to ask...
What's great about it: The looks
What's not so great: Lighting too dim, poor support, sold above retail

In case you didnt understand, a Lycosa is a species of Wolf Spider. I simply do not understand why this keyboard was given such a bad review! I have had no problems with it!!!! It is the best keyboard i have ever owned!!! The packaging was phenomenal and really captured my eye and made me buy this keyboard!! Most Backlit keyboards cost much more than this. An Alienware keyboard comparable to this costs 20 dollars more and there are many others that cost MUCH MUCH more... The design is amazing, the curves and the way it feels to rest your wrists on the ramp up is very comfortable. The lighting is bright and can be seen in bright sun or darkness. Anti Ghosting is very good, but can be a bit touchey at times, however i went from a standard keyboard to this and being able to strafe is a huge improvement in my gaming oriented life. Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect 2, Dawn of War... Every thing runs great with this thing! The ability to program macros is nice too. You just click the icon, a screen pops up, select a key, and then choose what you want the macro as. So easy a monkey could do it. The rubberized keys feel very comfortable and the ability to turn lights on, off, and into WASD mode is a nice touch as well. The Touchpad in the corner is ultra responsive and i haven't had an issue with it yet. If you have read the other reviews and they worry you, spend the 15 Bucks to get the Black Tie Warrenty. It is well worth it if you get scared by bad reviews
PROS: Comfortable, Rubberized Keys, Corner Media Touch Pad, Backlit Keys, Macro Customization, Anti-Ghosting, Ultra Compatable (Plug and Play, No Driver Necessary), Sturdy, Compact, Looks Sexy in the Dark
CONS: Anti-Ghosting Gets a little Testy (Sometimes not working like it should... i press two keys, but my character still runs forward), Keys show some fingerprints and the gloss is very fingerprinty (not a big worry, but a little bit of a pet peeve for me)
OVERALL: This Keyboard is Unbelievable. Very Responsive, Performs Well, Backlit, Looks Good. I would recommend this to anybody who wants a keyboard. Not only good for gaming, but for everything else too! I get compliments about it frequently and recommend to all my friends. Please, Ignore all the other reviews and buy this keyboard.

I bought the Lycosa with a new computer, and this review will be from the perspective of a Starcraft II and World of Warcraft centered gamer.
Initially the packaging was an experience in itself to open. Razer has phenomenal shelf appeal and opening up the product was very entertaining and exciting.
When plugging in the Lycosa, I was very happy to see the brightness and clarity of the back lighting, and my overall impression of the aesthetic design of the keyboard was very positive.
Unfortunately, as I used the keyboard to play Starcraft II and World of Warcraft, the keys will only press down with ease if you are pressing the key directly from the top with a decent amount of force. For example, spamming the '2' and '5' key is pretty much impossible because you are approaching the keys from the sides, which was very difficult for the Lycosa to handle.
The keys themselves were large and the non-slip surface was very nice.
If you plan on using this computer for high APM gaming, like WoW or SCII where spamming is sometimes a necessary component of the game (especially in arena or raids when you have to take advantage of every single GCD in WoW) then this is not a good fit. If you're looking for a neat looking, aesthetically pleasing keyboard, or if you're not a spammer and play games at a lower APM, then this is a nice product if you're willing to pay a bit more for the added aesthetic bonuses.
What's great about it: Wonderful Back Lighting, Aesthetically Pleasing, Large Keys, Comfortable Non-Slip Surface
What's not so great: Not Built for High APM

I am an avid gamer and professional typist (80+ wpm). This keyboard suffers from horrible key stick and bad springs for anyone who types fairly quickly. For games, it works great for about the first 2 weeks, but with regular use, the key springs seem to deteriorate. Spacing and lateral movement of keys when typing causes key stick alot, and will cause missed characters when gaming and typing.
I prefer a das keyboard for typing and even cheapo dell keyboards outperform this keyboard drastically.
What's great about it: low profile design
What's not so great: key stick, bad key response

After a few months of use I have started getting the horrible key lock and back light issues. While playing WoW the back light would randomly start turning off and on. Hitting the light tab would not help as it would still constantly flash on and off. Also when this happens a key would become unusable, which ment when I attempt to use an ability nothing would happen or if I was moving during this issue I could not stop my character from moving without having to disconnect the keyboard and plug it back in. Had to make sure I was facing a wall so I didnt run into something bad.
What's great about it: Nice when it works
What's not so great: backlight randomly flashes on and off, keys become unusable until reconnect

I have been plagued with the random key not working issue time and itme again. The board is great other than that. and at this point I have had enough due to this and the fact while in games the volume will only go up, and not down. Very frustrating. So I had an issue with the keyboard keys sometimes not working, I contacted Razor about the issue and after several e-mails (none of which resolved the issue) I was told about the Warranty process. I had to do the normal, scanning of the receipt, sending my info etc. and the response to me was that I had to cut the USB cord and send them a photograph of the cut keyboard before they began the process of sending me a new one. My question then became what am I supposed to do meanwhile? I have to go out and buy a keyboard while waiting for them to process the Warranty and send me a new product? At least the keyboard works sometimes, why can't they do what everyone else does and send you a new one and allow you to send the old one back in the box the new one came in. When I called to ask about this ridiculous policy, they basically said, sorry that is the way it is. When asking to speak to a Supervisor I was told, they don't do that either, the best they can do is write it in the notes and forward it to the next level. Ridiculous! I will never buy a Razor product again.
What's great about it: It's great when it works.
What's not so great: The touch screen is sensitive and often shuts the keyboard lights off.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was a little wary when I bought this, having read some of the reviews that the keys are poorly made and become unresponsive over time. I got the "Geek Squad Black Tie" warranty for 15 bucks, so hopefully that'll keep me safe.
This is my first day using the keyboard, so all I can share at this point are some first impressions. Looks great, as we've come to expect from Razer, so I won't linger on that subject (except to say, ignore all the reviews claiming the keys aren't bright enough. I have 3 desk lamps and can still make out every single letter).
Now, performance. The keys are quite comfortable, and it was an easy transition from a mechanical keyboard to these flat, rubbery things. I suspect the paint finish may wear out after a while, but geek squad's warranty covers normal wear and tear. Apparently the entire board is lit by just a couple LED's, so although it would be nice to customize which keys light up, that's impossible with this hardware. If you leave the default wrist rest on, the shiny backing seems to stay safe from smudging. Keys are very easy to press, and all are nicely lined up. The entire thing feels quite solid, but only time will tell if it really is.
So, though I haven't had the chance to fully acclimate to the board yet, I'm already quite comfortable with it. The media controller is a bit touchy, and I'd like to see a universal volume control, but other than that this seems to be a quite nice keyboard.
-This review was typed on a Lycosa.
What's great about it: Looks, comfort, USB/headset jacks, backlight deserves more recognition than it gets.
What's not so great: Media controller seems out of place. People claim the board loses quality rather quickly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This keyboard feels like a great relationship headed towards disaster, as I love everything about it, however there are some quirks that arise suspicion of weather or not, it will decide to just cr*p out on me someday. Sometimes, not frequently, but sometimes a random key will go dead. This issue seems to only be resolved by unplugging, and replugging the keyboard. The only other issue is the the back lighting seems to do what it wants, upon pc boot up. However this issue is minor as all you have to do is hit the back light button in the upper right corner. On to the good. The rubberized low profile keys allow for an very comfortable typing experience. The back light also gives a pleasing visual appeal.
What's great about it: Low Profile, rubberized keys. Comfortable typing. Nice back light.
What's not so great: Random dead keys once in a while

I bought this on 12/27 with a gift card I got. I loved the feel of the rubber keys as it felt like i was typing on my laptop. The backlighting was very nice. Easy setup.
The problem came when I updated the driver as I run my system with Win 7 Ultimate 64. As soon as I did this, the macro functions stopped working altogether. I still had issues where certain buttons would also stop working which hurt if they had keybindings attached to them.
I returned this and bought the Naga instead...
What's great about it: Great feel, looks great
What's not so great: spotty software, key functions.

I purchased this keyboard to compliment a new build. Never tried Razor products before, mostly Logitech (Previously used a G15) and figured I'd give Razor a shot.
The Lycosa had a really nice feel to it when I looked at the display model. Keys were crisp feeling, smooth and short press/quick response. Looked like it was well made and would be a great keyboard to have.
I was wrong.
Within just 3 months as an active gamer, I was already going through the finish (paint) of the keys. Completely going to the base on the left hand keys such as shift and Ctrl. Leaving a clear see-through appearance that looked terrible.
No warranty coverage from Razor on their products wearing out so quickly.
Keyboard finish quickly shows smears and smudges all the time. Even with clean hands you're just having to clean it continuously. Especially if you are easily bugged by the looked of a dirty keyboard.
Keys eventually began to to jam quite often when used quickly. Popped out keys to see if there was any dirt/grim build up and found nothing. Just really poor design overall.
Plus side is the lighting... Extremely bright Blue color and has an additional option for just movement keys to illuminate.
Software sucks from Razor. Really poor support on their drivers and software program to setup the macros and lighting. You'll find your settings randomly resetting during computer restarts.
I really wouldn't recommend this keyboard to someone who games a lot. I was much more satisfied with my Logitech G15 than this.
What's great about it: Initially looks great, very bright Blue Illumination
What's not so great: Poor Build quality and paint finish, Poor Software/Drivers.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
