What's great about it: Size and portability.
What's not so great: The inability to add anything to it.
"This is my first GPS and I guess I can say that I'm satisfied FOR NOW. I wish I would have done more research as to which models have which function. Instead I bought the one that was in my desired price range, and as you know, these haven't gone down in price much. I heard a lot of good things about the garmin so I went with the Garmin brand. My biggest complaint is that nowhere on the Best Buy site did it mention that my model (260w) was discontinued. I found out after the purchase on the Garmin site. I also realized that there isn't much more I can do with this model as far as downloads. I'm kicking myself for not returning it and spending a little more for what I was expecting. Overall, it's OK. It doesn't come with anything, of course, so make sure you purchase the travel pack (carrying case, charger, usb cable, etc...). I would recommend this to a friend if the prices ever happen to go down anytime soon."

What's great about it: Great directions
"I am so amazed by this GPS. I love it, and I have to ask myself, what took me so long. This GPS has allowed me to travel the city of St. Louis like I have never seen it. I have told everyone, this GPS is a gift from God.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to understand, wide screen
What's not so great: I found the holder difficult to attach to my vehicle front window
"I found the Garmin 260w to be very helpful on a recent trip. I like that the GPS takes me on the most direct route to my destination, I do not like that it needs to take me downtown when around town would be a much easier to navigate. On one occasion the 260w took me to a wrong address which was a little frustrating. However, the ease of driving without having to consistantly check a printed preplanned route or a map more than made up for the one wrong address. In addition I like the easy to understand voice commands when driving through conjested multi-lane roads as it was in Dallas. The 260w reduced my stress level immensely."

What's great about it: Easy to use all the features you will need to get you where you are going. Unless you want bluetooth etc
What's not so great: Nothing
"My father in law has this gps and I used it going to NC, so when my daughter who is not good with directions at all decided to go off to college out of state she purchased one also. You can not go wrong with this GPS. It does not have all the latest extras, bluetooth, fm transmitter etc but if you are looking for a GPS to get you where you are going then this is it."

What's great about it: Finding hotels in the area
What's not so great: Unable to easly locate smaller towns in the US.
"The first time we tried using the unit it could not find Greeley Colorado. After much work on our part, it finally located the city but only had one route to get us there. Both features "shortest distance" and "fastest route" turned out to be the same paths given althought the Interstate (which it wouldn't use) would have been the best choice."

What's great about it: Great screen and voice, easy to program and update maps, fast satellite signal recognition.
What's not so great: Has trouble recognizing main over private roads in rural areas. Sometimes directs you off the main road.
"Garmin has always been the top name in portable GPS's. I have used their early products 9 - 10 years ago when I worked for a company designing new sites for cell phone towers. We had to obtain GPS coordinates for the RF engineers back then and Garmin was the only product of its type back then.
I have not owned this product that long. My associates have chosen new units recently from many comparable firms and have read many professional reviews. Garmin always came out on top as the most advanced, rugged, reliable and easy to use.
I chose the Garmin 260W but bought it just after it got discontinued - no problem. It was easy to use right out of the box and I immediately updated the maps which took 3.5 hours on a high speed internet connection.
So far living in Orange County, New York and using it for my Real Estate business, I noticed several minor problems which hopefully will not repeat too often. It sometimes chooses a private unpaved or untraveled road as part of a route. If I choose to ignore the first command, it will find the more desirable main road and get me to the correct destination. Also, at times, it takes me off a main road to a side road which is impractical.
Here are my future recommendations to new buyers:
1. Consider buying the latest line or model at all times if the price is close.
2. For cell phone car callers, purchase the Bluetooth model unless your car has one already built in.
3. Check up on the latest gimmicks such as the new traffic alert services. They may be useful in busy urban areas where congestion is common."

What's great about it: cheap price
What's not so great: Alway lost settlelite reception taking me from wrong ways, keep re-calculating.. always not staying on direction lane.
"when i bought thats unit i was so excited to use.. before buying that unit i read the reviews it was saying 4.3 out of 5... than i made my decision to buy that unit... i used to have a garmin nuvi 660 that model was pretty nice for me never got the problem till 2009 than i had the lost settlelite reception problem after that battery problem with keeep charging cant stay on... when i bought 660 was for $799.00 + tax... i was so happy with that than i bought nuvi 260w that one is reduculas Actually im in transportation business and i really need a perfect device without hessel.. NOw i switch to nuvi 255w i didn't use that model yet let see how it works..."

What's great about it: Very easy to use and very accurate. Wide screen option is great.
What's not so great: Item unable to withstand heat in car. Damages internal, inaccessible battery. Garmin support very unhelpful.
"I have taken this device to various cities throughout the US, from California to New York. Very easy to use and accurate wherever we are. It locates desired places very easy; restaurants, banks, etc. Main issue is the item can not sit in the windshield and must be taken down everytime vehicle is parked. This will cause damage to the battery, spontaneous shutdowns, and powering off. I would interpret this to be a design flaw as most people will not completely remove device after every use. After one year warranty period, Garmin does not make easy accommodations to replace or repair unit."

What's great about it: Easy setup and use, clear voice and proper street names, recalculating routes, suction cup, battery life
What's not so great: Acquiring satellite signals at start, touch screen
"Garmin 260W is my first GPS and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I have it since January '09.
The directions and voice are clear to follow. The proper names of roads provide advantage so that I do not have to look at the screen while maneuvering my car. The voice is loud enough to hear even while windows are open in moderate traffic.
I love the idea of big screen. Color contrast is good, letters are clear, it shows the arrival time at destination and speed. The suction cup is strong and never failed until now. If you miss your route the recalculating speed is very fast. Battery life is also good.
Of the two things I don't like is the time it takes to acquire satellite signals when turning it on. The other thing is the touch screen which sometimes misses the touch; but the beeps will confirm your touch."

"our first one broke while using it, it just turned off and wouldn't turn on again. (luckily we knew where we were at that point) but we got a replacement and this one seems to be working fine, hopefully in 6 months it still will be."

"Overall this is a good buy. When going on a trip or somewhere new I bring it along every time. Compare to other GPS units that I have used this Garmin is better not only in ease of use but also for the directions it gives. The wide screen model is also nicer than the normal screen."

"This device can never get a signal. I've driven for hours waiting for it to find a signal. The only time it begins working is when I am pulling into my driveway. There is no add on available such as an external antenna to help find a signal.
Before you buy this model, try turning it on at the store and see if you can even get a signal."

"Bought this about a year ago and been very happy with it. All the configurations are intuitive, using it is simple and accurate. There is one location it couldn't find but that's all right (even yahoo map and few others fail there short of google map).
Mounting mechanism is secure, unit is clear and loud in sound, and its fast in tracking satellite, etc.
Only possible con is with the length of cord. Try using this in mini van where they have outlet at bottom and you see it extending quite long. (but that's the case with any cords it seems).
Oh, it's multi linqual parts (once connected and downloaded from internet) is definite plus for our family."

What's great about it: The voice prompt amazes me and my whole family very much including my 4 year old son. It's just so fantastic !!!
What's not so great: Nothing that we can find...
"The product is so amazing that it gives us not only the direction but also the enjoyment and excitment while traveling. The voice prompt and the turn by turn instructions of giving off directions are just so amazing that it will make you feel safe while traveling not to miss your exits and even the exact location."
