Great camera for a great price!!

What's great about it: Really easy to use and you can decide to record to a SD card or a mini dvd.
What's not so great: Haven't found anything yet.
"I bought this camera for use at my cousin's wedding. It works great and is very easy to use. I was told by the sales person that you couldn't record to a memory card that it was only for taking picures only. Well he was wrong!!! You CAN record video to the card as well and I find myself doing that more than recording to a dvd. I love it!!"

What's great about it: It was slick but not good enough
What's not so great: battery, time to finalize disk before you can put in a new one and return to filming
"I bought this to film a couple of presentations at a conference. I charged the unit all evening. The next morning I began taping a presentation. The speaker went over 30 minutes and maxxed out my disk. I had to finalize it. That took a minute, but when listening to medical conferences a lot can be missed in a minute. Worse, the battery went from 4 bars to one after 30 minutes of filming and one "finalize". I was able to only scan 20 minutes of the next speaker which actually was my most important leture of the entire conference.
My three complaints.
dvd's are only 30 minutes.
battery only really worked for 50 minutes.
putting battery into its "place" is difficult."

What's great about it: I nice video camera
What's not so great: can't put video on computer
"I bought this camera so I could make and edit videos. well after I shot some scenes with the camera I tryed to load it to my computer so I could edit it and it wouldn't load it said disc was blank. It came with a cd that you download on your computer but it didn't work
its I nice camera if you dont want to edit the videos on your computer but I wasted my money on it"

What's great about it: compact
What's not so great: poor picture quality, no addt'l light, doesnt hold charge
"I was VERY disappointed with this camcorder. I was loooking for a decent camcorder to record videos of my son at christmas to send to my husband overseas and I thought I was getting an awesome deal as it was normally $299. It's not even worth $50. It goes in and out of focus continuously, won't even hold a charge long enough to make the 30 min video. There is no additional lighting so the video is very dark, Very disappointed =( Don't waste your money! Honestly, I can normally find the good in something not so good but I can't say anything good about this camcorder. I guess you really do get what you pay for! or worse in this case.."

What's great about it: looks sharp, webcam, good quality upclose and zoomed in, simple to use
What's not so great: cannot transfer video files to computer, makes noises you can hear in film, automatic focusing, sound randomly muffled
"If you like to record family home videos and don't plan on saving them onto your computer or editing, or doing anything with them but keeping them on the dvds to watch just in ur dvd player or computer, then this camera is a great deal for you.
If you actually want to do something with your film, like put it on youtube or edit or send to family in emails, don't get a DVD camcorder. There is no firewire input so u cannot transfer files to your computer. However, there is a usb cord, but this is only for transferring digital images you have taken on the SD card. When trying to capture film on Windows Movie Maker with the usb cord, the camcorder cannot be found. There is a cd that comes with the camcorder which has a program where u can record your film from the camera to your computer, but the quality is extremely low and there is an audio/video syncing problem. So if you want to edit your film, buy a mini-DV camcorder or one with a harddrive.
WEBCAM FEATURE: I don't know if all camcorders have this feature, but I actually found it to be neat. It was like a high quality webcam, but this shouldn't be the only reason for purchasing this camera.
NOISY: You are able to hear the dvd spinning around inside the camera when you first click record and randomly while recording. The microphone records this sound and it is very annoying during playblack.
AUTOMATIC FOCUSING: I appreciate that Samsung made this automatic focusing, but they took it too far. It looks good when u keep the camera very still and are zooming in on something close (I zoomed in in my jeans and could see each individual thread). However, if the subject moves (even when completely zoomed out) or you move the camera, it gets really blurry for like 5 seconds before it can refocus on the new location of the subject. I looked in the menu to turn this feature off, but I couldn't find the option.
MUFFLING: I had to do an English video project of a reenactment of The Great Gatsby and my group did many takes of each scene because of excessive giggling. However, when I was trying to edit the film, in the only giggle-less take of a certain take, the sound was muffled! It sounded like my group was talking underwater!! I have no idea why it did this, but i had to use it anyway even though I couldn't understand what they were saying because I had no other takes and I wasn't going to make my group get together again for one silly shot. (Also, it was the night before the project was due. Yes, I am a procrastinator haha).
I don't mean to bash this product. Besides these things, it's really not that bad. Especially if you are a parent just recording family moments and not really planning on doing much with your film."

Disappointment at every turn

What's great about it: Easy to use, compact, easy to share
What's not so great: nite mode is horrible, jumps in recording, pictures pixelated
"At first this camcorder seemed to be great. It was easy to use right out of the box and the battery only took about an hour and a half to charge. Had some decent features, but some of the features are locked if you are using the anti-shake. I recorded some nice video of my son at the park and the wind cut feature cut out almost all the wind noise. The problems I had was that when trying to view the videos taken the camcorder would lock or take forever to load. I was only able to record about 4 to 10 minutes worth of video and would then get a write error on the disc. Still pictures were very pixelated and the shutter speed would lose the subject if it moved, giving me parts of heads or just nothing. Many of the pictures didn't write properly to the memory card and I was unable to retrieve them. Most of the features are not available with the memory card. I returned this camcorder and will steer clear of Samsung products in the future. Buyer beware!!"

"I purchased this camera for the value and price. what I got was what I paid for nothing. The camera wouldn't work. Took it back to the store and they had another one same model and this one also would not load, froze when trying to eject the disc, that the camera did not see. this was a disaster no wonder people brought this camera back to the store."

What's great about it: 2.7" color LCD,34x optical/1200x digital
What's not so great: 50% special features doesn't come with a remote
"The problems I have with it is that i dont got all 10 effects i got the first 5 these are the ones im missing emboss2, mosaic, mirror, pastel1 and pastel2.
Another reason is this camcorder doesn't come with a remote but yet its talkin about it on the manual but i still recommend this for people to use its still a good camcorder"

"We thought maybe the first camera was defective but after returning it and getting the second one just like it.....we realized it wan't a defect but the poor quality and craftsmanship. The discs freeze up and you can't watch what you record....we have tried to view discs via the camera as well as with the dvd player and neither work without great pains....
It is really sad to record your precious moments of your child's first birthday and not even be able to watch it.
I would rate this camera a negative 10. BUYER BEWARE!"

"I bought this camcorder for the price and the Samsung name. I had disk errors in 8 of the first 10 times I used the camera. Sent it back to Samsung Service who kept it for a month and finally, after tons of frustrating calls, replaced the unit (I think they lost my original camera!) I got the new unit two days ago and am already having trouble with it. It wouldn't turn off and then wouldn't turn back on. Samsung service was extremely poor and phone support even worse!"

What's not so great: 5 out of 10 special effects modes,doesn't come with a remote
"Feeling the Samsung dvd Camcorder but problems I have wit it is that i dont got all 10 effects i got the first 5 these are the ones im missing emboss2, mosaic, mirror, pastel1 and pastel2. Another reason is this camcorder doesn't come with a remote but yet its talkin bout it on the manual but i still recommend this for people to use its still a good camcorder but it would be better if it had night vision thats the effect i want my next camcorder to have."

What's not so great: Didn't come with a remote.
"As a first time camcorder owner, I deem this thing awesome! It took me a few minutes to figure out how to open the disk compartment. So be sure to have the battery in before trying to open where the disk goes. It has a shiny finish, so be prepared to wipe all the little dust and dirt particles that shiny things pick up.
It also has a sensor for a remote, but it is lame because it doesn't come with a remote. It is a teaser to get you to buy one, so go ahead and add a remote to your shopping cart.
I recommend calling your nearest store with the model number to see if they already have it. To avoid any shipping costs or the long wait for it to arrive."
