What's great about it: Lightweight, excellent reception
What's not so great: None that I've found so far
So lightweight with headphones that stay on even when running at high speed on the treadmill. Perfect complement for my iPod as I like to listen to AM radio talk shows at times.

What's great about it: FM/AM/WB Reception, Mega Bass Sound, High Output Power, Water-Resistant
What's not so great: N/A
A morning commute to the city on the Staten Island ferry, a relay track event, the sailboat race on the lake, an aerobic exercise routine at the gym, the morning jog, up-to-date weather forecasts on the fishing trip, a handy car ride companion for a passenger on that long anticipated trip, and it’s perfect for the poolside private listening session. The Sony Sports Walkman is a wonderful audio and time measurement accessory for all of these applications and many more as well. The Sony SRF-M85W FM/AM/Weather Band S2 Sports Walkman is a well-constructed, water-resistant, 3 band portable radio that is deftly suited for your sports and work related travel endeavors. The Sony Walkman performs well on the morning bus ride to work, can easily handle an inclement weather event while walking on the boardwalk, and produce quality audio in adverse operating conditions. This Sony SRF-M85W Walkman features 5mW + 5mW high output audio power for seemingly perfect reception and reproduction of your favorite FM/AM radio stations. This portable offers excellent sensitivity and selectivity with respect to its reception capabilities of the analog broadcast radio spectrum. FM music stations come in with great fidelity and impressive bass response. AM band reception is equally adept at pulling in my favorite talk radio programs with great voice clarity. The Weather Band station that I can receive with this unit is audible, but the volume control must be increased to a much higher level compared to the FM/AM bands, to achieve satisfactory results. This Sony Sports Walkman is comfortable to wear either on your arm with the supplied arm band or on your belt with the included clip. The Sony Walkman’s supplied sports stereo headphones are lightweight, provide the system’s FM/WB antenna, and offer high quality sound performance. This Sony Walkman can stand up to the rigors that fall within the range of your sporting activities. The Sony SRF-M85W Walkman is replete with features that will make any sports or portable audio enthusiast happy. Those features include: digital phase locked loop synthesized FM/AM/WB tuner, FM stereo reception, Weather Band Channels 1-7 reception, sports headphones, 3.5mm headphone jack, 25 FM/AM/WB station presets, up/down preset tuning/time set controls, FM/WB headphone cord antenna, built-in AM ferrite bar antenna, DX/Local sensitivity switch, band selection switch, Mega Bass control, Mega Bass sound system, inverted LCD display, multi-function display modes, hold function, rotary volume control, power button, enter, mode, display controls, digital clock, stopwatch, split timer, pitch timer, start/stop, split/reset stopwatch controls, arm band, belt clip, one AAA battery operation, battery life indicator, and operating instructions. With its Mega Bass output, FM/AM/WB reception, advanced stopwatch feature set, lightweight design, long battery life, and ease of use, the Sony SRF-M85W Sports Walkman is the right choice for any portable audio need. Good Luck. Enjoy.

What's not so great: Poor Reception, Cheap Headset
Save your money. I wish I had read these reviews before buying this radio. I bought this at the store and actually paid more than adverstised on the website. The reception is horrible, it cannot be used in the gym. The armstrap is difficult to use. The headset is uncomfortable and has poor sound quality. Overall a big waste of money.

What's great about it: It's a small AM radio
What's not so great: the reception
Bought this radio over a year ago and use it about every day but am to the point that I am ready to get something different. I use this mostly for AM listening which is a good thing because the FM is absolutely terrible. AM works good outside, but if you plan to use it in a gym, don't expect much. I know exactly every spot in the gym that I can get reception and we have a very powerful AM station that I listen to. Even in a good spot it is about 50/50 depending on which direction you are facing. But the FM is worse. It is full of static even with the DX switch on. I live in town and there are a lot of strong radio stations. It doesn't matter which station you are tuned to, you will hear 2 or 3 different stations at once. If you are sitting at home and set the radio in a perfect place, the thing works just fine, but if you are moving around during a workout, the FM dial isn't even worth using. I am probably going to buy a Sangean pocket radio instead.

What's great about it: Overall, I liked the quality
What's not so great: Position of the volume control, ruined the experience.
Sony needs to take this back to the design room. The quality was really nice, however, wasted on the teardrop shape. I was never able to solve the problem with the volume constantly changing on its own caused by rubbibing the exposed dial against the arm or in the pocket. I thought about taping it to a fixed position but decided to return the unit, instead.

What's great about it: For regular radio stations, it did well, nice, compact, great sound.
What's not so great: Needed it for the gym, reception there was spotty at best.
Seemed like a great radio. I would have kept it but I needed something to use at the gym. Unfortunately, it did not pick up the gym broadcast well. Not sure if it was the gym or the radio. As far as local stations, it was great, as long as I was outside of the gym. Too bad too, I really liked it. Although it was a little cumbersome to put on.

What's great about it: Sound quality and reception decent
What's not so great: Not durable, buttons snap off
I needed a new portable radio and I bought one of these from a local store, but it was not worth the cost for me. I put my radios through a tough trial because I'm always dropping mine, but this radio wasn't up to that test. After about two or three months of taking this radio in and out of my pocket, nearly every single one of the buttons had snapped off, to the point where I had no control over the station locking mechanism, volume, or on/off switch, and could not listen to it at all after taking the rechargeable battery out afterward. The bottom line? Avoid this radio; the mostly-black SRF-M37W is the *far* better Sony radio, and you can drop it thousands of times and it will still work like a charm.

What's great about it: Good reception on a wide range of stations
I was trying to replace an earlier generation Walkman radio which had worn out. I initially tried two less expensive other brands of armband radios, but found both to be lacking in quality of reception of an adequate number of stations.
So, despite having read a number of scathing reviews of recent Sony Walkman products (but not this specific model), I decided to try this one.
I have to say that I've only tested, not really used, this radio, but the tests have me believing that this is a good quality product which gets good reception on both the AM and FM bands (haven't tried the weather band).
It's more expensive than some competitors, but definitely worth more than the ones I tried.

What's great about it: Nice sound, excellent quality, presets, timer
What's not so great: none
The clarity is excellent. The headset that came with it is okay, it works. I had a $30 set that I use with it. Its small and light weight. The readout is easy to read, and its easy to use and setup. The presets are what I wanted. I can just set it to the stations that come in clear. I would recommend it.

What's great about it: Compact radio with superior sound and features
What's not so great: Arm band difficult to install on arm and adjust
I workout in health club surrounded by "tons" of building steel and concrete which does not affect quality of sound, reception at all. Club also has 4 TVs on different frequencies, all of which can be programmed on the radio with excellent reproductive sounds. Radio can be operated with one hand while working out and LCD display can easily be seen. Radio is very compact and appears to be sturdy and well built. The number of presets are more than enough for the fm and am stations in my area as well as the 4 TV frequencies. Headset is comfortable and easy to adjust.
I find the arm band a little difficult to install on arm and adjust to prevent slipping down while working out. Hopefully with time, I will "learn" how to use ...
A good radio for the money with some well thought out features for an active person.
