i record in "fine" mode. when played on my samsung hd tv, picture is poor. in short, there is no defenition. the picture on tv is not focosed. When you preview using the camera, it looks sharp and nice. but not on tv. i don't believe i am missing something. UGH. feel like i wasted all that money as little as it may seem.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: No.1 I bought it for 256.99 on sale!!!! what a steal.
What's not so great: I wish I'd had 60gb to have more fun! could use more battery life.
I bought the camera 2 months ago; during that time I haven't put it down.
I record everything from clothes washing to flowers growing. The everio
make boring things fun to watch. It's light weight, easy to use features
(such as opening the view finder, point and record) makes me feel like a pro
camera man. I recorded my daughters dance resital and when I got home I
was able to upload all the proformances onto my HP with alacridy. The sd micro card gave me more memory space with the 30GBs. Guys gals it's the perfect companion on vacation. I would advise though the purchase of the bnvf815 2hr 45mn battery for more recording life; the battery that comes with camera (bnvf808) only gives you about 1hr 35ms. But both fully charged batteries should give ample recording life . The bnvf823 gives you more life however is every bulky.

The recommendation for the Memory Card is incorrect on the web site. It can not hold the SD4. It holds the Micro SD Card. If you look at the camera up close you can see it says Micro SD.

I saved up my money, to get this JVC. I'm 13 years old so 299.00 was kinda expensive but it was worth every penny, my mom could even figure out to use it. i like how as soon as you plug it in, it downloads everything to your computer. the realy only bad thing was that it took a week to figure out to use the software. Great product:-))

I bought this camcorder because it has a hard drive and I was tired of keeping up with all the tapes from my old mini-dv camcorder. The camcorder is relatively simple to use and I have purchased JVC merchandise in the past and have no complaints. However, the editing software that came with the camcorder is essentially worthless. So far, and after two weeks of trying, I have not been able to capture or edit any videos. The raw videos play back ok on my pc, but I have not been able to capture any of the videos into the movie making software so they can be edited and compiled into a single movie. My older mini-dv tape camcorder downloaded into Windows Movie Maker with no trouble. You would think they could have done a better job of testing the software that comes with the camcorder.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought this camera as an early Christmas to capture playoff footage of grandson and found it to be so much fun!!!! He loves it also, especially being able to connect it to the tv so easily. Wish it took better qualtiy still frames, but, love it in spite of.

What's great about it: The camera is relatively intuitive. You play around with it for a little while and you can pretty much figure it out.
What's not so great: Files save as a proprietary .MOD ext.
The camera is pretty decent for general use if you just plan on taking a movie and transferring the files to a DVD directly and burning it. I was given the camera as a birthday gift and wanted it to play around a bit more with editing and making movies. My computer is a few years older with a full hard drive so I was going to use my wife's new Mac. Turns out that the files get saved on the internal HD as .MOD. This is a proprietary extension from JVC. Apparently it is a similar to .MPG but not entirely. After noticing the problem, I checked a number of sites and found that I could change that extension when it downloaded and it should work. It only worked sometimes and still I had an issue in viewing and editing most of the time. On the Mac iMovie wouldn't do anything with it. The editing program that they include as software does work for editing; however, it is limited in its abilities and does not run on a Mac.
***The system is making me put whether I would recommend this item to a friend and forces me to choose one or the other. So I want to clarify. Would I recommend this item to a friend?
-Yes if you plan on limited editing and mostly just want a way to quickly transfer video to your computer
-No if you want to use it for editing and more advanced movie making. Or if you have a Mac.

What's not so great: the memory card listed is the WRONG SIZE and model
the camcorder is very easy to learn and has very nice features. my main complaint is that on the Hyrid hard drive can store video and pictures as listed. if you read the fine print it talks about using a microSD/microSDHC memory card. as on accessories it states buying the Kingston Technology - 4GB memory card which is not compatible with the camcorder: it does not fit and too large for a "microSD or microSDHD slot. the complaint was made to best buy and hopefully they correct the error.

What's not so great: Having to open the shutter manually.
I have had JVC Camcorders in the past. But I checked out all the reviews written on just about all camcorder in this price range, and a little higher. And I felt this one here got the best review's. Always do the research. You won't B sorry. This JVC is really nice in all areas. What more does a girl want. I am very happy with this one. Every inch of this Camcorder has good quality to it.

What's great about it: Small size, good grip, excellent videos, wide range of options and editing
What's not so great: Still pictures are of poor quality, battery requires frequent charging
I got this cam just before having my first newborn babygirl. It's small size and light weight made it possible to carry it around easily and taking excellent quality videos. The instant power-on when the LCD is opened makes it possible to catch any moment. I likes the editing options of the videos, however, it needed some practice and going back to the user's guide to be able to run editing as there are too many options to remember. Connects easily to TV, VCR, PC, and can upload videos and pictures to the pc even with out installing the software since it connects to the computer directly as an external memory storage. The touch bottons and control are so fun to use and show off :-P. The remote control is of great value when watching your recordings directly on TV. On the other hand, I think the standard battery if not sufficient and i recomment getting an additional battery and a charger. I'm planning to get them myself. In general, it is a great value for money. You get all the options you need in one small handful hi-tech gadget. I think it will do the job for some time, i'd say years, to come.

I was in need of something extremely easy to use, basically point and shoot, but at the same time that would last me awhile and would give me quality videos. If this is what you are looking for as well, you will not be disappointed. A child could easily use this camera, but yet it has enough pizzas for even a pro!

I don't like that its so small that i feel like i'm going to break it, but the pros out weigh that. its perfect for getting good footage of my kids as they're running around the house. would definitely recommend to others.

What's great about it: small,easy computer transfer (2 seconds),30 gb hard drive
What's not so great: i must say video quality is ok but a con sometimes, you cant covert old tapes to digital.
I really prefer video quality. This cam shoots ok quality. If you are going to try and pull frames from the cam good luck because they are not to good. Thats really the only problem the quality is not so good.

What's great about it: Small. Great colors. Fun easy display.
What's not so great: micro cd card and touch scroll
I drove my hubby crazy looking up EVERYTHING on every camcorder out there. We drove to EVERY store. Looked up info on youtube.com and other sights. After all my review reading I was gonna get the Canon FS100...but couldn't find it in Lubbock Texas...so i bought this. I was a little scared about the touch scroll pad on the screen, but it really isn't as annoying as i thought it would be.
I uploaded a video to youtube and it was a little blurry, but not bad. I watched the same video on my computer and it was great. I am really happy with it. I had been making videos with my Lumix DMC FX01 dig camra (wich doesn't have a zoom) and it was okay, but the video worked through some other media which was really hard to get on a cd. this cam works with widows media player.
When you upload your video into the computer, it automaticaly delets it from your camra's hard dive. Which is nice, because you don't have to remember what you put on your computer OR delet it from your cam your self.
The settings are really easy to figure out. and the book is really easy to understand how to work the camcorder. The cd is really easy to figure out too. Just click click, and your videos are on your computer...and a few more clicks and your cd is made. I was really SHOCKED how fast it was. ((I was kinda scared going to a hard-drive camra...it was worth it...no cd's...no mini disk...i am free))
It has the basic effects that you add on AFTER you take your video (really fun to play with) fade in and out, black and white, strobe light, and a few others.
You can creat events (birthdays, vacations, baby) and hit the "okay" button before you "rec" and the little icon will display on your video so you rember were the video was from. Also, when you look back at your videos, you can search by events OR dates (really awesome). Plus you can also make it display the date (or not) whatever you want.
You just plug in your camcorder to charge the batt. No little station to plug in the batt, which is kinda nice.
Plus, i know there is still alot I have yet to figure out. But i am really happy with the cam and ready to video my baby growing up. This is a great cam if you want something easy and fast to figure out.
