What's great about it: Promises plenty
What's not so great: Doesn't deliver on any of it

"I have never been motivated to write a review before, but I just lost a whole day of production trying to get this all-in-one to work properly. I am fairly savvy with computers, so the problems run deeper than the usual "is it plugged in correctly" issues. I read all the positive reviews and selected this product for it's brand name, price, and overall perceived value. Problems started as soon as I got it set up. I networked the unit through the ethernet connection, so there was no possibility for wireless issues. First, the software suite is huge and bloated-way more than what I needed or wanted. It loaded three desktop icons to: a solutions center, a photo editing program, and a third I don't rememeber. Nothing about the interface is intuitive and several times I would click a "settings" button and it would give me an error and completely fail to even open. I got the printer to work, but the scanner and fax both failed to operate. I could receive faxes, but when I tried to send a fax, it would ring once and then shut down the phone connection, while still sending the connection ping. I was actually willing to live with not being able to send faxes if I could just scan items and then email them. But I could not get the scanner to work either. When I pressed the scan button on the "HP Solutions Center" I got an error message that my computer was not connected to the unit. When I checked the connection status, however, it told me that it was connected and showed a big green check mark to prove it. Two phone calls to HP customer support proved fruitless. I updated the drivers, tried to operate some of the features from the unit itself and ran into problem after problem all day long. Finally, I packed it back up. I don't know what I'm going to exchange it for, but anything will be better than this. I will never buy an HP again. Total waste of my time. Last comment: the one part that did work was the printer and the print quality was fine, however, it was about 4 times slower than my 6 year old Lexmark at home. I didn't replace that with this one, which was for work, but I was really stunned that a new model HP printer would underperform an older, cheaper brand printer."

"I used this printer for 3month now.
overall it is very nice printer
good quality
I didn't try print picture yet
WIFI features very nice...I have five computer and all computer connect to this printer and works fine...
but sometime WIFI not working I have to restart the software to work.
only complain i have is noise of the printer and printing speed.
Price is very reasonable when this printer on sale + when you buy laptop or desktop computer another $70 off...very good deal...
it is very good printer for home office use."

"This printer is the best I have owned. It replaced my old HP Deskjet 960, and my Canon scanner. It prints quickly, and overall the quality is very solid. The scanning quality is comparable to any other flatbed scanner I have used in the past, and the photocopier function works well with the paper feeder and the flatbed. The duplexer is what really convinced me to get this printer over several other comparable printers in the same price range. It works beautifully, though it does slow down print times for multipage documents because the ink has to dry after it prints the first side before it prints the second. The only weakness with this printer is that the text could be a bit sharper. I suppose it is unfair to use this as a comparison, but it cannot stand up to the sharpness of the laser printers I use in the lab on a daily basis. However, I do not think any inkjet printer can claim to do that. So if you are looking for a versatile printing device that can do color and duplexing for less than $250 dollars, this printer is the way to go."

"This was the first printer I purchased for our family. I was specifically looking for an all-in-one that was wireless. The print quality and speed on this printer is fantastic. I have not yet used the fax machine or scanner. Pages print quickly in both Black/White and Color.

I had a difficult time setting up the wireless feature. This was the primary reason I purchased this printer. It took me a couple nights to get it working properly. I'm not sure if it was the printer, my router, or both. I've had trouble connecting other peripherals to my router in the past.

Aside from the wireless setup, I have been extremely happy with this purchase. You can't go wrong with HP."

"This is my second HP All-in-one (I upgraded for a wireless), I have been very satisfied with with both hp's. Set up was very easy even though I didnt do a complete install- (it would have downloaded alot of uneeded software on suggested installation). I had no problems at all setting up a wireless connection like several other reviews had stated."

"This is my 2nd HP AIO. The installation was quick for my PC via USB cable. Next, for my laptop, the HP installation software quit (error) twice when I selected the advanced user option. When I selected the quick install option, it loaded successfully. I had to connect the USB cable to my laptop to find the wireless signal. After installation, my laptop and PC are successfully printing."

"Love this printer, wish my old printer could have been replaced with what I had. I'd rather have my All-In-One Kodak then this one. This HP eats up the ink, and the ink is expensive!!!! wont buy another one of these again, waiting for the newest model of all-in-one kodak to come out! So far cost of ink is almost the total for cost of machine, and I have only made maybe 40 copies, no photo printing yet......"

What's not so great: Having a problem with HP customer service

"I purchased a HP J6480 all-in-one three weeks ago. Had a problem getting it installed from the beginning. I spent about 3 hours on the phone with an HP tech on Saturday August 30, 2008. He stated that he would have a level 3 tech call me on Monday September 1. I have been able to get some of the features working myself, however I still have not received a return call from HP."

"Third HP printer I have had and have had no complaints about any of them. I love the fact I can use from anywhere in the house and has a paper feeder for making copies. Does a great job on photo printing. Would recommend this printer to anyone."

"Ok, our all in one that we have had for the last 5 years finally bit the bullet. I looked around for various different models / manufacturers, compared the abilities to the price, and we decided on this all in one.

Setting this one up was easy. I started with putting the cd into the drive of my wifes computer then started pulling the AIO out of the box. Once the software was installed I powered up the printer and when it went through the initilization process, I opted to have it search for my wireless network. It found it in under 20 seconds, once I got the network key put in, it was connected to the router, my wifes computer had the printer do a test page. DONE.

It took a bit more work for me to get my laptop to see the printer, but once it got it. again Done.

The print quality is as good as expected. My wife decided to print a photo from it using standard inks, The photo came out almost as if it was done professionally. Print speed is much faster then my older HP AIO Officejet 6210.

If your looking to upgrade your printer, I would recommend getting this one."

"I had to buy a printer on a Sunday, and I checked a lot of printers on-line at various locations, but I always seem to gravitate back to Best Buy for the perks. I decided on this printer before I walked into the store, just from the compare feature on the BB website. What a great service....

As for this printer, it was a breeze to setup, and use. I set up all features of this unit, including the fax, scan to computer, and fax store on computer. Bring up a Word or whatever document on your computer, hit print, and in a second or so it starts printing. So much better than my Epson RX580 that I replaced, along with the Print Server I needed to use it wirelessly....

If you follow the directions and use the CD first it flows perfectly and discovers all available wireless networks in your area, and when you select yours it asks for your LAN KEY. Put that in and it reconfigures the printer to operate on the Wireless LAN. Excellent!!

I sent a fax just to see how it was, and it went out from MS Word to the fax machine, dialed the number, connected, and POOF! Fax sent. This was easier than anything I have used in the past, including E-Fax.

I really appreciate the 250 sheet holder for paper, and the fact this unit has a scanner in the lid. Put the sheet in the feeder unit on top, hit copy (select either B&W or Color) and it reproduces a copy that - in my opinion - looks better than the original.

All-in-all a much better printer than my previous Epson, and I do not need my Linksys Print Server any longer! That is an added plus I feel....."

"I bought this printer over the weekend. It took me about 30min's to take it out of the box and set it up. I found it easy to us. I us both B & C and it come out very good. I also used the fax and it was easy to us the only thing I was not shore on is watch way the paper goes face up or down. After finding out it was very easy to us. This is 100% better then my old HP printer. I say if you are looking for a printer for home or office I say get this one it is so easy to us and set - up I say a kid can do it."

What's not so great: Not a con, but a be aware of following the warning to let the ink dry momentarily as instructed so it doesn't smudge.

"This is a great, well built machine that is easy to hook up wirelessly thanks to the wireless wizard. It prints quickly and gives you a 100% professional looking quality document that is 'letter' perfect. Crisp and clean. In using 22 lb. and 24 lb. paper I had no bleed through when double sided printing. I generally print single sided, but knowing no bleed through is a great feature.
Quality when printing graphics and photos is excellent, however, it prints a little more slowly, but not enough to create a problem.
I am using my J6480 at home, but it would be suitable for small/mid-size business as well. As HP's newest all-in-one printer, the J6480 is a do it all machine! It is a feature-rich device capable of handling projects across the board. It delivers everything you need or want want: Autoduplexing, photo finishing, one-touch faxing, a scanner with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, auto-document feeder (ADF), and built in wireless 802.11g networking.
The HP Officejet J6480 is 18.7" by 18.6" and weighs 16.87 lbs., but stands only 10 inches high! There is a 250-sheet paper tray, and an auto document feeder for scanning and/or copying as many as 35 sheets at a time. Also, there is the autoduplexer for double-sided printing.
The J6480 ships with HP Drivers, and software that allows you to import, organize, edit, and share your digital photos, and fax and scan documents.
The J6480 has a two-cartridge bay with one single black cartridge & another tricolor cartridge for color prints. They have available XL cartridges for both black and color that are double the price but offer three times the page yield. I just discovered they offer a grey cartridge if you mostly print in draft mode!
I love the J6480! As the say say here in Maine, it is "Wicked Good"!"
