Great ear buds, if you're deaf in one ear.

What's great about it: Sound and fit
What's not so great: Short life span
"Not much to say other than I thought they were great until they stopped working. I bought two pair of these ear buds, one for my wife and one for myself. A few months after purchasing them the right side ear bud on my wife’s set stopped working for no apparent reason. A few months later the same thing happened with mine. In both instances they worked fine one day and the next day they didn’t."

Superb sound

What's great about it: Good sound, good fit
What's not so great: Rubber covers keep slipping off
"I bought these headphones from my local Best Buy almost two years ago for about 40 bucks and absolutely love the way they sound with my iPod Classic. There's a good balance between the highs, mids and lows for a sound that is just the way I like it and a price tag falls within a reasonable range for headphones. This particular set comes with three different-sized earbud covers to ensure you get the right fit for your ears. I go to sleep with my iPod playing each night, so I was happy to find a pair of earbuds that were equal in sound quality and comfort. Alas, after two years I've finally managed to put a short in the right earbud wire and will be looking to pick up another pair of these same earbuds soon."

What's great about it: sound is good
What's not so great: everything else
"i bought these headphones before i had an mp3 player so they were unused for 3 months. when i finally used them they lasted for 2 weeks and then the right headphone went out. i checked with the sony online repair and they want $43.00 to fix them....thats what i paid for them new...what a joke. I would definitly consider buying a different brand."

Good sound/Bad design for the active...

What's great about it: Good sound.
What's not so great: Use during physical activity.
"The way the L/R are split inhibit use for runners/high activity. They pull themselves out of your ear as you move. They sound well, with good bass response. I would recommend an over the ear for any activity the involves constant movement."

What's great about it: Outside noise reduction
"I have owned these for about 5 months and I like them a lot. Really hard to hear anything else when you wear them, which is great. I did own a cheaper pair of Phillips earphones for about $15 that worked great but the noise cancelling on these is worth the price. I would recommend them."

What's great about it: sound, the fit
What's not so great: unequal cord lengh for the left and right earbud
"Purchased this on Thursday and tried it out for 9hrs at work. Sounds great. Couldn't hear the shop noise or co-workers talking.LOL I like the plastic case it comes with so you can protect the earbuds from dirt/dust or losing the ear cushions. I like the in-ear buds because they feel like earplugs. The only odd thing was the unequal length cord for the right and left earbud. No big deal because I try to tuck it in my shirt so it doesn't get in the way."

Not so great

What's great about it: Price (Sorta), apperence
What's not so great: Unequal cord length for each headphone, left headphone rattled
"Good headphones all in all (I only had these for 3 weeks), no durability problems that I saw, and I'm a heavy user. The only real problem that I had was the left headphone rattled quite a bit when there was a song that had a lot of base. But that's just me, probably just a defect or something, defects are products of mass production, its inevitable. If i got another pair of these headphones, the probably would not have the same problem. I bet these are good, I just happened to get a pair that was not so good."

Great when they don't break
12/26/2008

What's great about it: Great audio quality, nice fit, excellent sound blocking
What's not so great: Breaks easily
"I loved these earphones and got some good use out of them. The audio quality was great, and worked well in noisy places. At first I wasn't a fan of the asymmetrical cord, but now I can't use anything without it. These were great up until about a month ago, when the wire going to the left channel broke. I only had them for three months. Today, I bought a "next level up" pair of earphones, but I'm not sure I like them and may take them back tomorrow to buy another pair of these. These have a critical design flaw in that the plastic wire sheathing at the bottom of each earphone can cut into the wires because of the thin coating around the wire."

What's great about it: small, relatively decent sound, somewhat custom fit
What's not so great: ear bud cushions fall off easily
"The sound is decent for the price. The only complaint I have is that the ear bud cushions fall off easily. And on top of that, they're a real pain to find.. I had to find the best fitting size and crazy glue them on. They fell off when something would grab the earphone cord and riped the ear bud out of my ear. They fell off when they had the slightest bit of resistance and turned out to be super annoying. Will not purchase them again."

Great earbuds!
11/12/2008
By LPMedia

What's great about it: Great sound, good for the price, interchangeable cushions, excellent noise cancelling.
What's not so great: not so great case
"Overall, these are great earbuds! The sound is true, crisp and clean, and I actually have used them instead of the standard earbuds that came with my iPod with much better sound quality. I wish the case for them was a little more substantial, it only comes with a little thing that clips over the buds themselves. something that also holds the cord would be nice. Excellent noise cancelling- i've used them on planes with crying kids, and could not hear a THING except my music! (My friend who had another pricey brand of "noise cancelling earbuds" could still hear it!) I would give these a 5 if it werent my preference for a more substantial case."

What's great about it: Good sound quality
What's not so great: Durabilty
"For the price these have great sound quality. I find that these little headphones pack a powerful punch for the price. They get very good bass. I love the fact that it comes with a case. Additionally, they seem to block out a lot of ambient sound when I'm in the subway or in the gym. Some people can't quite find the right fit, even though it provides 3 different sizes of ear pieces. If it is not a good fit the sound quality goes down and it doesn't cut out as much ambient noise."

What's great about it: Headphones are awesome.
"Alright for those having problems with the volume when you put it in your ear. Take a toothpick (also be prepared to be disgusted) and scratch on the area in the middle of the cushion(the part that sticks out). Keep doing this until you see a hole in the middle.... and keep doing it if you wish until its clean... That was my problem.... lol I find it pretty nasty.... (Note to people (and self): you may want to consider cleaning your ears better lol)"

"This is the third pair of these headphones that I have purchased. The first pair was wonderful, had them for about 3 years. Went and purchased a second pair because I lost the first pair. Those failed within 1 week. I figured it was some random happening and decided to purchase another pair. Big mistake! The third pair has just failed with the same problem....the right ear lost sound."

Sound quality's good enough to overlook flaws
09/22/2008
By ChinaBoy
from College Station, TX

What's great about it: decent response, always clear highs, sometimes spot-on bass
What's not so great: SOMETIMES spot-on bass, the more ear wax the less secure the fitment, unequal length may turn some off
"I really like these little headphones. Sony's quality is still great in terms of consumer audio products. You won't find the perfect studio-quality in these headphones, but it comes close enough for most users, myself included.
The sound response is quite good for a pair of $30 headphones, simply becuase they are an in-ear set. The highs are quite crisp and the mids are well balanced and there hasn't been an instance where I received massive amounts of distortion. Also, a plus for psuedo-audiophiles looking for a audio immersion, sound isolation is pretty decent.. think ear plugs but with slightly less deadening.
I do have a couple complaints about the headphones, however. How clear and how loud the bass frequencies come through is solely dependent on how well each bud fits in your ear. Granted, this is a problem that every in-ear headphone seems to have and as the Sonys come with 3 different size buds to cater to any size ear canal, but the problem is still there. Also not helping the fitment problem is the fact that the weight of the headphone's cord hangs all on the left earbud thanks to the uneven length of the cord. This "feature" makes using these headphones for jogging/running virtually impossible... which is a shame because they would be great at blocking out the sound while exercising.
Overall, I'd recommend these headphones for anyone who enjoys their music in relatively high-quality. Runners, joggers and the earwax-plagued need look elsewhere."

Great sounding Earbuds
09/18/2008
By Eyewart

|
What's great about it: Great sound, feels great in the ear, cord position
What's not so great: Easy wear and tear on the cord
"The sound of these headphones is great, the bass rumbles and thumps and everything else just seems to blend magically. I also like these because the cord from the right ear goes behind the neck to keep it out of your way. These also some-what act as sound reducing headphones. Even when my music is turned down, it's still hard to hear what's going on around you, which is great for mowing or commuting. unfortunately, I am on my third pair of these headphones because I like them so much. The first two pairs, the rubber covering of the cord came, mostly because I didn't take very good care of them. But nevertheless, they are great and I will continue to buy them!"

Too flimsy

By Princetonglas

What's great about it: Good sound & comfort
What's not so great: poor wire protection
"I've gone through two of these Sony ear buds. Each failed because the insulation going to the buds is made of a very soft and light weight material. In addition the hard plastic liner going from the bud to the wiring is actually the source for wear because it cuts into the insulation which is about as soft as a marshmallow. It's like selling a car with bald tires."

Amazing Headphones
08/30/2008
By Ziniphrix

What's great about it: Great sound quality, especially in terms of bass
What's not so great: Tendency to lose rubber earbuds.
"I've probably bought about 4 of these headphones. And none of them ever died on me, I just merely lost them and had to get another pair. I read some peoples reviews about how one earphone stopped working, and I had to throw in my 2 cents because I have yet to buy a pair of headphones within the same price range that overshadow these.
Of each of the pairs I owned, with the exception of 1, I used for at least a year. And it's not like I didn't use them a lot, either. I could sworn a few times I had ruined them after slamming a car door over the cord, or walking by a door and the cord catches onto the door knob and gets ripped out of my ear, and yet, the headphones still worked fine.
I couldn't suggest better headphones for their price. The sound quality is amazing, and it's hard for me to imagine that some of these reviewers headphones had died after a mere few months."

great sound - when they worked
08/28/2008
By bengalfan

What's great about it: bass, quality of sound
What's not so great: R headphone stopped working after 5 months
"Initially I though that I had done something to damage my headphones, but after reading the numerous other reviews re loss of sound from one side of the headphones, it appears as if this may be a dysfunction in product design. Until the R earpiece went out, the quality of sound and bass was amazing, with decent dampening of ambient noise as long as the rubber earpiece was placed far enough into the ear canal - for the record the rubber earpieces were very comfortable so even over long periods of time I did not experience any pain."
