What's great about it: Very nice look What's not so great: Difficult set-up, unable to read standard dvds
"I finally had enough money saved up to spend on a nice home theatre system and proceeded to read reviews online to make sure I made an educated selection. After breaking it down to 2-3 choices I proceeded to the store to check them out some more. I was sold on the LG's stylish look and bought one on the spot. Set up was not as easy as I had thought which I blame mainly on the system itself because it didn't work. I connected all the wires and the HDMI cable and had a picture on the tv but the speakers would not play any sound even when hooked up to the cable. Then I tried putting one of my standard dvds in and after 5 minutes of "loading" it read "no disc". I messed with it for 2 days and even called LG support, who hung up on me and ignored my request for a call back. Finally I gave up and returned it to the store and purchased a Samsung HT-TZ512 which set up in twenty minutes and works beautifully and looks just as good. Do not buy this product!"

More than enough bass for a low end HTIB

What's great about it: Plays all my Divx and Xvids that I download from the internet. What's not so great: Cant pause movie and switch to TV without DVD starting from the beginning
"I researched for about three weeks on systems under $450 and finally had my girlfriend buy me this one for christmas because its the only one that plays XVIDs. All i have to say is WOW! I live in a one bedroom apartment and have no trouble rattling the walls and floor at half the volume. Movie explosions are the best and I can finally watch all my downloaded movies on my flat screen instead of my PC or without hooking my laptop up to my TV. As far as the surround sound goes, the source you are playing has to be encoded in a surround sound format or it will only play though the 2.1 channel which means two speakers and a sub. The tech I spoke to at LG had no idea why i could not get all the EQ settings to work when i was watching a DIVX movie and told me to just keep pressing the VSM button on the remote which did nothing. I found out later that the sound of my movies have to be encoded in the AC3 sound format and not the mp3 format or you will not get all five speakers to play. You will not find a better sounding or nicer looking sysyem for the price!"

What's great about it: Sound quality, great looking, plenty of speaker wire What's not so great: see review
"I did some online research on most of the lower end 5.1 systems and spent some time at the store comparing the systems and this LG won out. The features are pretty much the same as the rest of the pack but the sound quality seemed a bit better. In a bedroom or a medium/small living room this system will deliver all the sound you can handle. My bedroom is 14x15 and it will rattle the room at half volume. The clincher was the clean, simple display.
My only complaint would be the lack of a backlit remote. I guess that's a bit much to ask for at this price but I would have gladly paid a few more bucks for a remote that I can actually use in the dark.
Also, while watching cable/satellite the surround sound only works on 3 of the equalizer settings. You will see the dolby digital icon on the upper left corner of the display when surround sound is active."

What's great about it: Great Price, Great Sound What's not so great: Remote Dependancy, Lack of Inputs
"I love this system. The first night I had it the cops were called on me because Rockband was going at 3/4s the power. I previously had a cheap 200W system so this was definitely and upgrade. I picked it up as an open box for $200 so there was some things missing from it that required me to go back to the store (Not typical of a brand new purchase). The major con for me is the the dependency on the remote. Since mine was out of the box, they switched the remote with an LG TV remote so I had to go back to the store, otherwise I could not set anything up. The lack of inputs was also slightly a downer, but I have also picked up a S Video to RF Modulator ($39.99 at Best Buy) so I can run up to 4 electronics that use either a S-Video or Composite Cable connections from the 1 Composite Cable input in the receiver. On poor reviews I saw 2 points that I did not experience. One was the sub woofer has no power...mine shakes my floor when it is half way up in my house. Second was that you can't play your IPOD through all 5 speakers...which all you have to do is change the EQ setting on the left side of the remote to Dolby Pro Music and it plays through all the speakers. All in all the system has its quirks (have to readjust the eq when you change the input or turn the power back on, the default is 2.1 sound) but I really enjoy this system and would recommend it to any of my friends."

What's great about it: Great Looks, Simplink, Ipod Connection What's not so great: 5.1 ONLY FOR MOVIES, MP3/Ipod/CD play back uses only 2.1 Stereo. Poor Ipod Controls. Poor Speaker Output
"I purchased this unit to match my Terrific LG LCD TV (42LG30). I was swayed by its looks and the "Simplink" Technology.
***CONS: For starters, Simplink is a slow process in which your better off just hitting the input button instead. Not a real convience. My next qualm is that the unit does not allow for 5.1 surround sound/ 5 speaker output in any non dvd format. So if you use your Ipod, your getting the use of two low watt speakers and a sub (more on that momentarily) in a 2.1 stereo format. The preset EQ's provided are useless as well. There is no manual EQ either. It also has a sub standard sub woofer that puts out about as much bass as a baby kicking a pillow. In order to use the system, the tv must also be on as all menu's are onscreen. The layout onscreen is minimal in terms of manual options and is hard to manuever. As for sound, It is great when it is tolerable for movies but for music, 2 low output speaks are just not enough.
* Please note, My front left speaker blew out with in 2 weeks of purchase. I live in a basement apartment and so blaring music is not possible as my landlord is right above me. With that said, the speaker blew out at a low volume. LG did send a replacement unit with in 73 hours of calling though.
***PROS: Its a great looking system that accents my LG TV perfectly! The Ipod connection is great despite a clunky onscreen interface (you have the option to use the ipod interface though). The IPOD is fully dockable so the home theater does keep it charged to play your tunes all night long. Simplink, while a slow process does give you the benefit of using any LG remote with any LG unit with out any codes having to be inputted. Setting up was easy as each speaker is color coated as are the inputs for them.
***VERDICT: This system lacks the power and full functionality of others in its price category. It is not worth the $250 price point its currently at (as of 11/22/08) even if you have a matching LG television. Opt for another more well know brand (in terms of home theaters) or wait til the price falls to the a more suitable price of $185."

What's great about it: Great quality for the price of the system. Great iPod features and compatibility. What's not so great: High gauge speaker wires. Sound quality might improve with lower gauge wires.
"I bought this product about a month ago now, and I have yet to find any real complaints or negative features. I'm a college student with little spare cash, so the price of this system was an immediate selling point. At first I was worried about sacrificing quality for low cost, but I was pleasantly surprised on how well the system performs. I recommend this system to anyone who doesn't have the money for an HD DVD player but wants a near high definition experience. I also recommend buying the digital optical audio and component video wires to accompany the system. Overall a great product!"

What's great about it: Good Sound, Good Looks, and Affordable What's not so great: Set-up, Settings reset when turned off
"Very good system for the money. The set-up is my only real complaint. The instruction manual was incomplete and in another language. I had to go to LG's website and pull up the manual from there. No big deal, but it was still an inconvience. A user who doesn't know about online manuals would be stuck in a hard place. Other than that, I love it. I would highly recommend to anyone."

What's great about it: Easy set-up, sleek look, great sound. Unbeatable bang for your buck. What's not so great: No eject key on remote control... minor inconvenience, but still a pain.
"Our old system died after five years of rough use in college. My husband and I were looking for something a little nicer with a big sound that wouldn't break our budget. This system delivers. It plays everything, and the sound quality is great. We really like the extra bass we have now - we can vibrate the windows at half-volume. Also, has a very convenient connector for I-Pods and other music devices. This is a great system at a great price. Definitely recommended."

What's great about it: Beautiful Piano black finish, upconverts my regular DVD's What's not so great: Not a five disc changer, no visible headphone jack
"This was an amazing buy. It goes perfectly with my 42" LG LCD tv. The simplink botton on the tv remote can operate the system which makes the system button useless. The price was excellent under $300 which was my price range. It wasn't difficult to install to the tv. Placement of the speakers was a breeze. This system complements the tv so well, it make regular tv look awsome. I love this system."

What's great about it: Sound Quality, Looks, Big sound from small speakers, Black,, comes w/ necessary cables, USB compatible What's not so great: HDMI cable not included
"The LG home theater system has really great qualities. I've been really happy with this product ever since me and my husband bought it. The product isn't big in size or too small, just the right size. Also, it's black in color where it matches our living room set. The receiver lays flat like a dvd player and the lights are blue in color. The product doesn't take up a lot of space, just the right amount. The sound quality is excellent! For the speakers not being big, it has an awesome sound quality! The LG home theater system also comes with the necessary cables to be able to hook it up to your home. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with the HDMI cable. What i really loved of the receiver, is that it's USB compatible. I can hook up my zune whenever I want and listen to music or video clips. Overall this is a really good product and I would recommend it to friends, even strangers."

"If you want a no fuss home theater system this is it. It is an all in one system with great sound and an upconverting DVD player. My 7 year old said it was awesome! What I like best about it is the optical in from the cable box. My regular TV signal has sounds that I've never heard before. Looks great. Make sure you set the upcoverting feature to AUTO and use an HDMI cable - big difference in picture! Still working on speaker stands but the Sanus look like they may fit best."

What's great about it: Sleek finish/very stylish; amazing sound; great price! What's not so great: a lot of wires; manual not very detailed;
"I absolutely love this system! I bought a system from wal-mart but immediately took it back when I saw this system at Best Buy! It's glossy finish matches my 32" sharp television (also from Best Buy) perfectly! The sound is superb but as I have it in my bedroom I don't turn it up that loud. I wish the speakers were wireless however because I have wires every where! The manual can also be a little confusing at certain points. This is my first home theatre system and im pleased!!! I definitely recommend this system"
