"i brought this system and took it back the very next day. It was kind of hard to set up but not that bad once i got it all set up i was sure it was going to blow me away because my room is not very big.The front speakers are ok but the back speakers i could not even tell they were on. I was not happy at all with this system"

What's great about it: the look
What's not so great: the price, product completely failed for my uses in 6 mo

"I purchased the product in July of 2008 and by December 2008 the hdmi connection had completely failed. what is the point of have 1080p upconvert when you can only use audio/visual cables to connect the system. you would belive any product in the 400 up range would have at least a two year life span"

What's great about it: Good price, sound is great if you can figure it out
What's not so great: The settings are confusing and have to be reset everytime you turn it on for back speakers to work, subwoofer isn't loud

"This surround sound sounds nice, but if you like a lot of subwoofer, I do not reccommend this surround sound. The settings are 0-5 for volume, and 5 is NOT very loud at all. This surround is, however, very affordable and sounds good, besides the subwoofer. The wireless rear speakers actually have wires on them that go to a wireless transmitter. So, there will still be wires. The shiny finish of this surround sound shows dust very badly. So if you have a problem with dust (like in the country) it's going to be high maintenance for cleaning. This surround sound confuses guests that try to turn it on. There is no easy way to turn it on and have the rear speakers on. You have to go through the settings and get the right one."

What's great about it: Easy on the eyes, many features, good for small area
What's not so great: Instructions, rear speakers, cheap speaker wire

"I have owned this unit now for five months. Great unit for the price. Many features including HDMI in/out, 5 Disc DVD player, easy to set up, good sound for a small area. Realistic and clear sound from the speaker system and good bass from the sub woofer.
Very attractive looking unit and speakers.
On the down side the instructions were vague and the so called "wireless" rear speakers are not actually wireless and they produced lots of static and weak sound. Very thin and cheap wire included that is color coded. I replaced the included wire with Monster Cable at an additional cost and wired the entire system thus eliminating the wireless aspect of the unit. Produced much more clear and solid sound after the re-wire.
Only problem I have encountered is the loss of the sound signal between the television and LG system even though it is optically sound connected.
Usually changing to another channel and back fixes the problem.
Overall a nice system for the money."

What's great about it: Sexy Look
What's not so great: Wireless Isn't really wireless

"First of all, it was confusing to set up. The Best Buy Associate even said they had trouble setting it up. Second, the price was pretty higher. It was $444 on sale. I thought the wireless set up meant just that - wireless. In reality, only the back speakers are "wireless." This means you have a wireless router send the signal to a wireless reciever located near the 2 rear speakers, then you have to connect those speakers to the wireless reciever. The only benefit of this is if you have a very large room and you would have to run a lot of wire to the speakers. Also, I didn't like how you can't really adjust the sound settings easily, I found the bass to be very weak.

Finally, I had a lot of problems with the unit. After turning it on, it would produce sound for about 5 seconds then go blank. After calling LG and speaking to a very rude representative, they told me to return it to best buy because it was defective. Needless to say, I went with the Sony Bravia Home Theater System which was $100 less and in my opinion much better!"

"I was looking for a good system but I wasn't trying to spend alot of money, and this system supplied those needs. produces good sound, excellent with the movies I have watched so far. the wireless rear speakers do have some static, but not that horrible. I spent only $400 on it, so I wasn't looking for perfection. just a good all-around system and that is exactly what I got."

What's great about it: easy set up, great sound and has hdmi in and out
What's not so great: instructions were lacking in specifics

"Looked at Samsung and Panasonic models. No one had all the features this one did. Great price at $399. Sub woofer is okay. Side speakers are elegant. Center speaker is small but powerful, no distortion. Only drawback is the DVD player. Why not a BluRay? I hooked the system up to my Sony 350 BLuRay and my Samsung 50" Plasma tv. Sound is great from both systems. Wireless rear speakers connect automatically. The more expensive LG model has rear tower speakers, but costs $200 more."

"Attractive system with HDMI capability. Picture is great! Sound is best with DVD, but weak overall. Subwoofer barely discernable. Back speakers very soft. Might be better in small, confined area."

What's great about it: Ipod connection, Sound
What's not so great: none so far

"Everything hooked up easy. instructions were a little sketchy. Cool Ipod input with osd. Sound and Looks great. No real complaints.
Only issue I've had was with the wireless speakers. They conflicted with my Turtle beach wireless headset I got for the Xbox."

What's great about it: hdmi in, 5 disc changer, nice sound

"i bought this unit to match up with my LG 42" LCD. First of all i was very surprised to see some features on it that weren't mentioned on the website. I noticed the website had it listed as a single disc dvd but i actually has a 5 disc changer. I also found out it has an hdmi input and an hdmi out. The website lists it as having only hdmi out. So I was happy to see that.
When i got the system home I set it up. It was the first time i ever setup a 5.1 system and it wasn't too bad. Everything is color coded so setup was easy. Now the bad part when I started it up it wasn't working correctly and then it turned itself off on its own. I kept restarting it trying to get through the setup but it either kept powering down or losing the signal through the hdmi. I decided to run the system through component instead to see if I could keep the screen on and it worked. I finished the setup and decided to start a dvd in it. The dvd started fine and the sound was great, but after a few minutes of playback the screen went blank and then the dvd started back up from the beginning. I tried another dvd and the same thing. So the next day I called Best Buy and told them my problem and they told me I could bring it in and exchange it. The really good thing is I was able to leave the speakers and just exchange the head unit with no problems. The main problem was the Best Buy I bought it from was the closest one to my house and that is 85 miles one way so I had to make two trips in two days to take care of it. I got the new head unit home hooked it up and it worked without a flaw. I have been watching dvd's without a problem so far. All in all i love the system, it links up well with other LG products and it sounds good."

What's great about it: Easy on the eyes
What's not so great: subwoofer, directions, connections

"I think I came into this purchase with fairly reasonable expectations. I wanted something that looked good in the living room, had decent sound, hdmi connections, and something that could spare me a wiring nightmare.
The system is the best looking out there for the money. HDMI connections work just fine with the Playstation and TV. You will need to run a separate video connection to the TV to run standard DVDs from the system as it will not work properly running through the HDMI connection.
As the other reviewers said, the wireless speakers are easy to set up but mine have been a little fickle. I have to work on them still.
I think I used ALL the connections on the thing - that shouldn't happen! And all I have is DirecTV and a Playstation.
There is a transmitter and receiver for the wireless speakers. The receiver, while nice looking, is too big. It is just tooooo big. The transmitter is perfect size.
The sound is fine - it highlights the distinction between all sounds of play (i.e. DBS, Standard DVD, Blue Ray) BUT... LG HAS TO BE KIDDING WITH THE SUBWOOFER. I'm almost embarrassed at my purchase because of the sound coming from the subwoofer.
I was going to give the system a 3 because that what it deserves but the subwoofer has caused me to drop it to a 2."

Great addition to my new TV 06/24/2008

"The LG 1000W Home Theater system is amazing. The upconvert is worth the price of this unit alone. I recently got a Philips 42" LCD that runs 1080P and running the HDMI from the LG to the TV gives the best picture I've seen. Life-like realizm to movies. I showed it to a friend and their jaw hit the floor with the picture and sound quality esp. being just a standard DVD. The setup on the unit was also fast and easy. It was up and running in 30 minutes tops. My only complaint is that my TV only has an SPDIF audio out and will not work with the LG unit."

"All in all the sound system is great. The first time I bought it, the subwoofer didn't work, but Best Buy is awesome and returned it without hassle. I bought the system again-- mainly because it was really the only stylish system that offered a lot of options as well.
This time everything worked, and the sound was AMAZING. I really loved how I could choose between surround sound or not. The receiver also has many audio in/out options (optical, hdmi, Left/Right audio cables), which gave me the option for even better sound quality.
The only real complaint is that the setup instructions don't give you a lot of information (ie it only gives you the color coding for half the chords). Other than that, it's an fantastic system that provides excellent sound."

"This is a great system. The speakers provide a full and rich sound. It has several hookups for diffeernt mp3 players. It has two ways to listen to the ipod depending onweather you want to listen to in conjuction witht the tv or not. The up convert on the DVD player makes most reguler movies apear almost HD quality. It is an excellent all around system"

"I'm not experienced in Home Theater at all, but I now feel like a pro. This LG system is the PERFECT solution for those that want the realistic theaterlike expeience on a budget and for those lacking the expertise.
We bought this at 5pm, arrived home at 5:15pm, and it was setup by 7:00pm! LOVE IT!
Clear sounding mids and highs, rich, deep bass.
And it looks great!"
