What's great about it: so far..... EVERYTHING!!!!!!
"I haven't had this DVD player long, but so far it works great! Me and my parents both have the same one but they have had theirs for much longer. I love the design and the ease of use. I watch a movie almost every night and it works perfectly. In the reviews that say it overheats, it's probably because they crowd it and stack it. I haven't had a problem with overheating and neither have my parents."

What's great about it: great value for the money
"I bought this little DVD player for my young son. The price was right and I figured if he broke it, it would be no great loss. I bought it a month ago and has worked great, often for many hours at a time. Picture quality, ease of set-up and operation are just fine. Bottom line - if you're looking for something simple with basic quality to play DVDs, this product is great."

What's great about it: Size & shape
What's not so great: It easily over heats and will not play DVD's.
"The old adage "Never judge a book by it's cover" definitely applies to this product. While nice looking and just the right size for small spaces this product (can't really call it a DVD player because it would have to PLAY them in order to be called a DVD player) quickly and easily overheats and "reads" inserted discs for extended periods of time before either telling you there is no disc inserted or that it cannot play the disc. I tried several discs with the same result each time. I took the original back to the store and exchanged it for another of the same product. The second machine did the same thing and is currently sitting in my storage room in it's box collecting dust. What a waste of $104. I now steer clear of any Samsung disc players because of this experience and would not recommend this product to anyone."

What's great about it: small size
What's not so great: no display
"Funny, how the later reviews give this player a bad rep. I bought my first unit 6 months ago and it worked well for me. I needed a 2nd one, and this was on sale again for $50 so I bought it. I hope the newer units don't have a problem. But until i have a real bad experience with it, I will give it a 5/5."

"like alot of people got this for 50% off would i buy this again easy answer NO. now i havent had any over heating or cut off problems i have read about here are my issues this player is glossy black and so are the buttons try finding the eject button or power button you cant. it has no time counter which i like and brings me to my biggest complaint if im watching a movie and something comes up i have to turn the movie off when i come back the thing has no memory of where it left off and starts all over again and that really stinks i think so you just have to pick a scene you think you have seen and try again. i dont use the remote it came with because i have a universal but the remote uses a big watch looking battery i mean come on its bad enough you have to buy 4 different batteries now and now this."

What's great about it: Its compact and looks cool
What's not so great: IT DOESNT WORK!
"I bought this thing because it was compact and sleek looking, and would be perfect for my TV in my bedroom. I was able to watch one DVD on it. After that, zilch. The sound wasnt good when I was able to watch the one DVD. I was using the HDMI outlet, which should work really good. After the one DVD that worked, whenever I load another DVD it sits there and tries to read the DVD for 15 mins. The remote acts like its almost out of batteries. If you dont have it pointed directly infront of the player, it doesnt work. This thing is a joke. I took mine back after a week. I would NOT recommend this to anyone."

What's not so great: Sound went out
"Bought this with my Samsung TV. Was a nice match but after 90 days the sound on HDMI went out. The warranty on labor is only 90 days and now it will cost more to fix than what I paid for it. Again, nice picture and easy to set up. I tried another HDMI cable and still no luck. After talking with Samsung they concluded I needed to send it to them for repair. Instead, I bought the BB Insignia Upcovert for the same price that this would cost to fix. Sound still works with analog cables so I moved this one to my daughter's room."

What's great about it: 1080p unconversion, very cheap, small
What's not so great: Overheating problems
"I purchased this DVD player for half price with a new Samsung HDTV and it worked great for about 28 days before it died. I took it back and had it replaced and this time bought a replacement plan on it. A month later and the second one has just started acting up due to overheating.
I'm going to keep replacing the thing as it dies and am very thankful that I have a replacement plan. Eventually I hope the replacement plan will get me the newer, hopefully better quality version that will replace this overheating piece of trash.
The small design is interesting but not very practical. Most standard size DVD players are designed to stack with audio components and have more room for the heat they generate. The plastic shell probably isn't very good for heat in the small case as well."

What's great about it: Easy setup. Minimal navigation. Does exactly what it's made for.
What's not so great: None yet.
"Setup was a breeze. Took no more then ten minutes from box to hook up. The picture is as good as can be at 1080p. There is nothing more to it. It's portable, compact, and just plain works. My eyes are quite content. Are yours?"

What's great about it: Easy to set up and Use, Great Picture
"I bought this when I purchased my Samsung LCD tv. I used my old progressive scan first with the tv to compare and there really is no comparison. So far it has worked great. Its kind of small, but the sleek look goes great with the tv. It was very easy to setup and has several picture options. I would recommend getting some high-quality HDMI cables to go with it, they make the picture quality even better. Upgrade to an upconvert dvd player as soon as possible with an HD tv if you havnt already because it will really bring out the picture quality in your HD tv."

"stopped working after only 2 days. pretty sure the heat it generates was the cause. was on a smooth surface (vents were not blocked) and near no other electronics. Maybe just a bad unit?"

What's great about it: Compact, upconversion, touch sensitive controls
What's not so great: Slow loading, paid extra for HDMI cord
"It's an attractive DVD player, front loading, very compact, small remote...the battery is included, it's in the bag that contains the A/V cord. The setup is very fast and easy, no problems at all. It plays all DVDs, DVD +/-R, CD +/-R, mp3, jpg and even CDs with mpeg and wma. There is no display on the player, none at all, but there are touch sensitive controls for Stop, Play, Rewind, Fast Forward, Eject and On/Off Button. The loading between is slower than other DVD players. HDMI did not work on my machine, don't know if it's the player or my TV, but it's not the cord because I used another HDMI cord....and the same problem occured. Oh well, I could live with the regular A/V cord. Overall it's a decent player."

"I got this to go in a small bedroom sitting room where space is at a premium. I was told to get the HDMI cable but this TV didn't have a port for it, so I used the regular 3-colored plugs for a standard DVD player, and I think the picture is great. I installed it the very first try (no small feat for me) and it has worked perfectly. It is responsive when you push the keys, but if you have large hands you will find the keys (and the remote control) pretty small. I plan to get another one for the living room where we do have HDTV and use the cable I bought."

"I was looking for a compact player that had all the bells and whitsles and this unit fit the bill. It has an attractive look that will fit into any modern decor, is upconverting, and is even wall mountable. I have this player connected to a 32" Vizio Plasma TV via the HDMI cable in my bedroom and the picture is amazing. Sure, there are cheaper upconverting players on Best Buy's website, but none of them are this compact. If you are looking for an upconverting player that is small in size but big in picture quality, this is the player for you!!!"

"After purchasing a new Samsung 32in LCD HD TV I had to remove the shelft in my cabinet so I need something small to replace my normal size HD DVD player. This little compact player is perfect and best of all the HDMI connection allows me to get rid of my large component cables without the lost of any picture quality. Don't bother buying an expensive HDMI cable an inexpensive HDMI cable will deliver the goods!"

What's not so great: problems with 1080p output
"Took me a few mins to figure out I had to poke at the case of the device to power on and eject. I dont like it but will be using the remote so it won't bother me. I had problems outputing 1080p as the picture had static. I manually forced the player to output 1080i and problem solved. DVD players are not Samsungs best product, IMO, but this player is great for the price especially if space is an issue. Like all of Samsungs products with the piano black finish; its a dust magnet. Don't forget to buy a CR1025 battery for the remote as the player does not include them."
