What's great about it: Great suction and easy to use

As a first-time Dyson owner, I was nervous about a few reviews I'd read here. I'm happy to say I'm very satisfied. The DC24 is the perfect size for my small house - both in use and in storage. I've got it stowed out of sight behind a door in my study. After several vacuuming runs now, I can say that the DC24 maneuvers very well and is highly intuitive to use. I have mostly wood floors, a lot of tight corners, and a few large area rugs. The Dyson transitions between surfaces with ease. It picked up dirt from my rugs that my old vacuums never touched. Though I'm terrible with machines in general, I assembled this vacuum myself in a few minutes and learned easily how to use the attachment and empty the bin. All the buttons and parts fit together intuitively. I find the hose attachment suction to be strong - especially when using it without the extra brush attachment. My only complaint is that the brush bar deactivates easily. At first I thought it was broken, but then I read online that if you have problems with it, you have to depress a little pin on the front left side of the brush bar and press the "on/off" button a few times. I've gotten the brush bar to reactivate by just depressing the pin, too. It's easy to intentionally deactivate the brush bar by pressing the actual button next to the "on/off" button. Since activating the brush bar doesn't take long and I don't have a million rooms to vacuum, I don't find this quirk to be a deal breaker. I can vacuum faster and with less effort with the Dyson and that more than makes up for that bit of lost time.

I am a cleaning lady, so I work with vacuums a lot, and so far, this is the BEST! Hoover comes to a far second, but would pick Dyson every time, if not for the expensive price tag. But overall, you get your money's worth!
Would highly recommend!

What's great about it: performance
This is exactly what a vacuum cleaner should be. No unnecessary frills (ie. lights and cord retractors) and instead focuses solely on the prime purpose of a vacuum...to clean like a monster. Even when I thought my carpets were clean, running this machine over an area a few times proves how much power this little unit has. It will surprise you (and make you vacuum more often frankly). Plus, love the roller ball...much better than the four stationary wheel design. Expensive but worth it - truly one of the few examples where you pay for quality and you won't regret it.

Does excelent job at picking up dirt on carpet and floor, easy to use. I would like a longer cord and a larger dirt holding area, but light weight was my driver. Easy to work with and is a very good product.

I paid a lot of money for a vacuum that is not very well made. The roller brush stops working after it picks up hair. My hair is shoulder length. I have to clean the roller out with each vacuum. I don't even own a pet! All that money, what a disappointment.

What's not so great: Cord and hose are not as long as on the larger model. However, very adequate.
This is a great vacuum. How often can you say a vacuum makes you happy? Super lightweight, with great cleaning abilities. Narrow, to get in tight spots, works great on floors, and easy to operate. My favorite feature is the hose attachment. It is angled perfectly to "finally" get into the cracks on the steps .My only mild disappointment is that the cord and attachment hose is not as long as the larger model that I have used in the past. But hey, life goes on !

This vacuum is over rated and over priced. It has no suction, and the brushes don't spin. The ball vacuum idea is just a novelty. I chose this vacuum because it was supposed to be a decent vacuum if you have pets. This vacuum doesn't do anything but make noise and over heat. The power cord is way too short too. Save your money and get a different brand Dyson is way overpriced for such a poorly built product

What's not so great: Only one extension tool.
This vac is well designed and easy to use. In addition to being the best cleaning vacuum that we have ever had, it is easy to maneuver and light weight. It seems as though every aspect of the design has been well thought out and manufactured. The extension hose, wand and tools are well designed and not just loose pieces, they are a part of the vac.
We clean up after 7 cats and this vac is up to the job.

What's not so great: nothing - worst vacuum I have every had
I was so excited to get a Dyson I had heard so much about it. Got it home and assembled went to use is and the brush didn't spin (there are virtually no instructions) I thought I had put something together wrong so I had husband check it and everything was good still no spin we took it apart and checked everything a couple more times and finally got the brush to spin. I thought it was just a fluke. I vacuum until I needed to empty the dust container I emptied it and put it back on - no spin again -took it apart again and finally got it to work again. Finished vacuuming emptied the dust and put it away. Next time I got it out it worked for a few minutes and then failed again - this time we had no luck getting it to come on again - this piece of junk is going back to the store and I will get another brand - NOT a Dyson
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: It was a lot cheaper than a big Dyson and does the same job.
What's not so great: Was smaller that I expected.
It was a gift for my daughter. She and I were surprised that it was so small but, does the same work as the big one that I own. She loves it! The price was reasonable for a Dyson.

What's great about it: Great upright performance, picks up a lot more than others!
What's not so great: Wand attachment is very weak. Doesn't pick up much compared to a $40 handheld vac.
I had been saving up to buy one of these vacuums and while I can say I am impressed at its upright performace; it fails when it comes to using the wand and attachments.
First, the vacuum tries to decline as if you are going to vacuum the floor if you just want to roll it to another room. The only way around this is to pick up the vacuum and carry it. Luckily it isn't heavy.
I had intentionally left one room that has a lot of traffic alone until I bought this. I had vacuumed it a month prior with another $50 upright and made note of how much it picked up. The Dyson did great as an upright and put the $50 vacuum to shame. It picked up over 1 cup more of dust and fuzz -- yes I measured how much each vacuum picked up.
When it came time to vacuum my couch the wand attachment and brush were horribly disappointing. The wand attachment has no seals on it so it loses a lot of suction power. Most vacuum wands will grab your hand but the Dyson wand didn't have anywhere near that power.
I did notice that there was dust being kicked into the air while I was using it. Even though the Dyson caught more dirt than my previous vacuum, it still kicked out a little dust just like the other vacuum.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's not so great: Took forever to put together. Directions were terrible.
I've been wanting this vac all year and finally got one. I would have never gotten it together had it not been for my husband but I'm sure glad he didn't give up because I love how it cleans deep down & there is no smell or dust settling back down. We no longer have dust all over our clothes in the closet when our housekeeper vacuums. She loves our new vac also & says she is not so tired because it is very light weight.

We have had our Dyson only a short time but believe that we should have purchased it much earlier. It was very easy to assemble and operate.
It is very powerful and picks up much more than the vacuum we previously used. We love the side-to-side handle maneuverability and the lighter weight makes my wife happy.

What's great about it: Compact but Powerful

Against my husband's wishes, I purchased this machine when it went on (a fantastic) sale at BB. We've had it for little over a month and so far it's been wonderful. Beware, even when on sale, it's still a bit pricey but seems worth every penny.
I love the maneuverability and compact size. I haven't had much use for testing out the ball only because we usually move EVERYTHING out of the way before cleaning but just knowing we won't have to lug our heavy Hoover around has meant the world. I no longer dread vacuuming as I did with our ancient duck-taped-together dinosaur canister.
The suction has been powerful so far, as well, but keep in mind, we've only had it for a little while. I am very hopeful the suction won't lessen in time, as I've read it does, in some of the reviews.
The wand took a little getting use to, but once you're use to the quirks, it's a breeze. It almost seems like a toy yet it's powerful. I haven't had any issues that others have had with the smallish dirt compartment, as I've used it several times and have yet to empty it out. It's also great on non-carpeted floors, so you hardly have to pull the wand out anyway.
My husband has vowed not to use it out of principle but I've caught him a few times going against that promise (he leaves the cord out occasionally or it looks really, really clean.)
I would recommend this to a friend!

i love, love, love everything about this vacuum except that i kinda broke it the first day. I totally went to town vacuuming everything (the ball and this being so light weight truly makes such a difference) but when I tried to follow the instructions to get the roller out to clean it, it wasn't working and i ended up breaking it. so, now i'm stuck w/ a roller i can't clean (of course it's not covered by warranty) but it still vacuums great and i just plan to buy a new roller when needed. considering how much more effecient this vacuum is, that's a minor concern to me.

As others have written, at first the vacuum seems great. After using it a few times, the suction doesn't seem as strong. The "ball" feature does make it easy to handle and maneuver around furniture. The vacuum is pretty light weight and compact. I think too small to cover a large space, but perfect for an apartment. It's probably not the best vacuum I've owned, but I'm still pleased with it.
