What's great about it: Easy, Great Sound, Size
What's not so great: Output cord, a bit 'plastic-y', Software for PC only
I recently picked up this turntable at my local Best Buy, and I was extremely happy with my purchase before I even walked out the door. The cashier rang it up and after sales tax and everything it was about $140 -- and I began to hesitate. The cashier asked why and I explained I had seen it online for a LOT cheaper. She asked me where, I told her on Amazon's website.. and she immediately had a manager come over and look it up and they matched the price for me. They did this all on their own as I not only didn't force the issue or even ask, but I didn't even know they did that in the first place. So I was incredibly thankful that they took the time to save me what would end up being about $40.
I got it home, opened the box. Item was packed well. The consumer is responsible for putting the belt and plate on but it was very, very easy and I had the thing together in less than 2 minutes. Brought it to the living room, plugged in my Bose Companion II speakers with the RCA output cord built into the turntable. Put on a 12" LP and was immediately happy.
If you don't have a separate pre-amp -- no worries, the built in pre-amp is perfectly capable of filling up a room. I would certainly suggest at least decent speakers. You can plug these into 2.1 computer speakers, but if you're going cheap with those, you won't be fully utilizing the sound quality this turntable is pushing out. The Bose speakers I mentioned earlier are at least 3 or 4 years old and I swear by them. Best $100 you could spend at an electronics store. I use them with my TV, Computer, and now my Sony Turntable.
My only complaints; The software to make mp3's from your records is for Windows only.. and I use a Mac. It's still possible to perform the task but if you're a Mac user the included software is only useful as a beer coaster. The turntable is pretty much all plastic.. and therefore feels somewhat fragile. Other than that, my only other complaint is the hardwired RCA output -- it works perfectly fine but the cord is extremely short.. so unless you plan on having your setup be very compact.. you'll need to grab an RCA extension cord.
If you're just getting into turntables, or need to replace your old one without breaking the bank -- this offering from Sony should be on your shopping list.

What's great about it: Ease of use of actual turntable.
What's not so great: Software is not for beginners.
The turntable itself is great. However the software is very hard to use for a beginner like me. I recorded on my computer and put it on a USB to use in my car and the sound quality is horrible. It will take a long time to "tweak" things on the program to get it to sound decent.

I just wanted a simple record player. Didn't need the conversion to digital like a bunch of players are these days. You have to put on the belt for this player but it was easy. It sounds and works great! No complaints. I guess i wish the audio cords were a bit longer but other than that i like it just fine!

I bought this turntable to listen to some old albums I found in my aunt's basement. They're all from the 70's or early and sound like new. My only problem with it is that the RCA audio cable is really short and you can't replace it with a longer cable.

What's great about it: Good quality, Software is Easy to learn.
What's not so great: A little pricey.
This is an excellent turntable for what I need. I just want to transfer some of my lps over to mp3 and this one does it well. I looked around the internet and there were many USB turntables out there that were cheaper, some by almost half. But when reading the reviews, I was unsure if one of those units would even work when it arrived. I found this one at Best Buy and while it's a little pricey, the quality is there as well as my peace of mind. I knew I could take it back to the store if I had problems.....but no need. It works great. The software is pretty easy to learn. You just have to sit down and take time to learn it. If you just want to play and/or transfer lps to your computer or to CDs, you will be happy with this Sony.

What's great about it: Just plug it into a USB port on your PC and you can listen to your old vinyl
What's not so great: The RCA cords are hardwired and very short, needs a pre-amp
It works, I can play my vinyl and record it via USB but it isn't what I hoped for. The software supplied with it is very simple to use and does a reasonable but not superior job or removing pops and clicks. To get good sound though I had to order a pre-amplifier so I could use the RCA output. Sound through USB is poor, and that's running it into an excellent digital sound card and out through a very high quality speaker set. For the price it should have had more features and been able to play through the supplied RCA cords, which are hardwired and very short by the way, without a pre-amplifier

Sony was my only. I swore by it, never needed to research a product. But in the last few years I've noticed Sony products not lasting forever like they used to. I bought this model turntable. Used it less than 100 hrs. when I noticed that 33 1/3 is more like 33.5. That's right, it runs fast! I can't transfer my vinyl if the turntable speed is wrong. Of course, this started to happen right after the warranty expired. There is no way to adjust the speed either. I may have to start buying other products. Sorry, Sony, I'll miss you.

What's great about it: The sound quality
What's not so great: It does not have ear phone plug out.
I bought the Crosley portable turntable and the USB sound is really bad. So I returned it and since Japanese Sony products have a great reputation, I decided to buy it. Well it turns out that it has a great sound and the sound forge software is so easy to use. It took me 15 minutes to set it up and start recording. I worked on the first try, I didn't have to tweak it over and over to make it work...I just love it...thanks Sony for this great product. The only thing i wish it had, was an ear phone plug, but if you connect it to your laptop, you can use the laptops ear phones to listen to it.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Everything
The SONY Turntable does not work with WIndows 7, even though the printed manual sent with it has instructions for using Windows 7. The SONY techies will all tell you that it will not work with WIndows 7, and their manuals all tell them that. SONY's literature does not tell you that when you are deciding to buy it.

What's great about it: Affordable, easy to set up, easy to use, good sound. The record fits on the platter and clear cover fits perfect.
What's not so great: 33's and 45's only, not 78's. I don't have 78's and not looking for that format, so doesn't matter to me.
Very happy with the quality of this turntable. It is easy to set up and plays all my LP's beautifully. I also installed the Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio software on my laptop to record my albums using USB connection. The software is very user friendly with a wizard that walks you through creating the sound files. It works perfectly! I have recorded whole LP's and 45's as wav files then converted to mp3 format. To hear the vinyl sound on my car stereo is awesome! I love it.
You can see in the picture the record fits completely on the turntable - it doesn't hang over the edge like other turntables. The lid is attached and open in the pic.

What's great about it: The software has many great features. Equipment can also be connected to a stereo system.
What's not so great: Learning curve of the software.
It's the software that needs to be more user friendly. Took a while to get familiar with the software and how to merge tracks if it separated them. It can be done but does take an understanding of it before using it. Does have to be babysat for correct track recording. It can be recorded as 1 long track and manully separated or recorded 1 track at a time. Make sure you have your computer set correctly for recording inputs and playback. Could have been clearer in documentation.

What's great about it: Ease of use, and playback sound quality.
What's not so great: Have found no problem
I purchased this turntable for another room in my house. I have an old thorns turntable in another room. I have been through a few turntables and pre amps over the years with poor results. reason, hooking a turntable to an amp without phono input. Which I have done here, simply flip switch to input on the turntable and plug into back off your amp. The thorns turntable it is competeing with is a $900.00 turntable and stylis.
I am amazed at the playback quality of this turntable, ease of use, no poping or skiping. I have not recorded with this turntable, mostly interested in playback quality. For the price, go buy it now! A+

What's great about it: beautiful recordings
What's not so great: track recognition was non-existant
I used this product to convert my record collection into MP3 for my MP3 player. I wanted a product that would allow me to keep all of the "record noise" and this did the trick. I had to adjust the line-in volume (microphone.. even though I connected only via USB) in order to get a real nice quality. The microphone volume on mine was set to like 10% so that the record sounds as sweet as possible.
On a side note: track recognition of the software was terrible and detected every record as one track.
