What's great about it: Sets up fast, decent price
What's not so great: Wireless horrible
"This router is great if you have your computers connected directly or your wireless product in nearby. The signal for the router if you get too far away is horrible and constantly gets lost. I threw this router away and bought the older model blue one and for wireless it is way better. NOT a good wireless router unless your close."

What's great about it: Good Price
What's not so great: Network Magic Software
"Although Linksys is a good brand of wireless routers, as recommended from different people, the Network Magic program is no good. I had problems from the start installing this router. Once installed, I was having problems with my PC. Slow connection speed (currently have Roadrunner), and eventually slow performance of PC. I had to reboot my PC several times. Finally went and talked to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, they me told that possibly the software was to blame. They said I really didn't need the software to run my router. I uninstalled the software, and was finally able to connect to the internet with no problems. If you buy this router, avoid installing the software, if you do, do it just to get your SSID and Key Code set up, than uninstall the Network Magic program. You will save all kinds of headaches."

What's not so great: Password Protecton set up is to difficult
"This product works well and looks good to. good for someone who does not care about a security code protection. however for the others the process is way too difficult. also i got no PIN sticker on my router so it was impossible to do without going to the website, then it is way to complicated. over all it has done well. i really don't need to be password protected because i live by old people that's it."

What's great about it: Installation was a snap, the black shiny exterior looks great, my HP HDX 16t laptop found the wireless router no problem
What's not so great: Little to no internet connection, router disconnects from cable modem constantly
"I have a comcast cable internet connection using a Scientific Atlanta 1200 modem which is connected to the router. First time installing the router it went smoothly and the internet worked i was satisfied. Hours later the connection speed tapered down to dial up speeds and then constantly disconnected from the modem. I performed the hard reset technique several times on both the router and my modem in different combinations but that did not solve the problem. I tried upgrading the firmware carefully following the instructions on the cisco/linksys website but it failed and it turned the router into a brick.. went back to best buy and exchanged it for another WRT54G2 router and reinstalled everything from scratch and received same results. I decided to get rid of this unreliable router and shop for another. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit"

What's great about it: Fairly easy to set up, good range, reliable
What's not so great: CD setup utility not Mac compatible, control panel can be confusing
"I bought a factory-refurbished version of this router for a slightly cheaper price, and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I'm using it just for a simple wireless network in my small college apartment. A setup CD is included, but Mac OS X users be warned: Linksys does not play well with Apple. The setup utility on the CD won't even run on a Mac. Thankfully, Linksys provides a free Mac setup utility on their website (go to the router's product page on their site, click on "More Information," select version 1.0). However, no mention of this is given anywhere on the box or any included papers. I had to Google around to find it, which was frustrating.
Once I found the setup utility however, everything went swimmingly. The utility is straightforward and doesn't take long on an average machine. Once I finished, everything worked fine and I'm very happy with my router! I haven't noticed any slowing of browsing speed or loss of network coverage. My only other gripe is that changing the settings in the control panel can sometimes be confusing, but not so much that it's difficult to use.
All in all, I'm very happy with this router! I'd say it's a good buy for anyone with only moderate tech skills looking to set up a simple home WiFi network."

"I don’t know the product yet, I just start to use it, but they have the worth technical support I ever had. If you are not willing to pay for the service, they are not helping at all. According to our phone conversation everything was set up properly, but I didn’t have connection between the antenna and router. I spent 2 days to solve this problem by myself and it was in the router’s security setting."

What's great about it: good price
What's not so great: setup somewhat complicated
"This router has relative good range. Didn't have money for a wireless-N router, so this was the best I got for the money. Originally bought a Netgear wireless-G router, and it wouldnt support 64-bit Windows Vista operating system, and this does. Setup was a bit complex, but I had gotten wonderful customer service from Cisco which was really helpful on setup. Pretty good transfer speed. Range is fairly good. Overall, no real complaints."

What's great about it: Fast
What's not so great: Installation
"Just bought this 2 days ago. My 4 years old NetGears starts to flicker. Of late, with NetGear, internet speed is decent but it kept frozen. At first, I blame the Internet Service Provider (ISP) :) old habit, I always blame the ISP first.
I think this price is a little high for an old tech Wireless-G. Installation of this Cisco Linksys router is unpleasantly slow and not reliable. I know computer, so this is quite annoying. But once it was up, it ran like a Champ. My computer with Wireless-G adapter (no fancy Wireless-N is needed) was one floor above the router but signal is strong and steady. Most importantly using Speedtest.net tool to test out the down load and up load bandwidth, both bandwidth were at high point and stay there. Old NetGear reaches 50-55% of download max, the Cisco Linksys reaches 80% range. Most importantly, no more frozen....
Fast and no frozen Internet connection is heaven. Too soon to tell if it is reliable, but I hope it will be. A buy recommendation."

What's great about it: easy set-up, works great when it does work
What's not so great: disconnects, slow speed, works for short periods of time, poor customer service
"I bought this router for my laptop and wii due to the router i originally wanted not being compatible. set up was easy and worked right out of the box... for an hour. since then, it disconnected frequently (which was fixed with the firmware update) and once this issue was resolved, the router was slow and my dial-up card worked faster for downloads. when i contacted customer service they blamed my internet company even after i told them the modem worked when not connected to the router. after troubleshooting for 45 minutes, the issue was resolved... for an hour. I have to frequently reset the modem and IP address and it is not worth the hassle."

What's great about it: installation
What's not so great: internet speed reduced
"I only purchased the router so I could have a WIFI connection for my IPod. Instillation was a dream and you are up and running fast. I noticed my internet speed was slow. And got progressively slower through the evening. I checked for Windows updates, rebooted, did everything under the sun and it was still running slow and for some Internet sites I kept on getting error messages unable to connect to the internet. So I unplugged the router and my Internet was up and running perfectly. So this new little Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router is going to be returned back to the store. It’s a pity as the installation was a dream."

What's great about it: It's easy to use and setup.
What's not so great: It preforms terribly and is not customizable
"I bought this to replace a wireless router that had burned out from years of use. My setup is a DSL connection running into two routers chained together, one setup as a switch the other as the DHCP. This router worked ok as long as I only had 32-bit OS computers connected to it or didn't try to connect my other router to it. When I tried to connect the other router or a computer with VISTA 64-bit it would lose the internet connection complete and need to be reset to find it again with the router and VISTA 64 computers not connected.
I eventually returned the item and bought a Netgear router instead, have been happy with that choice ever since."

What's great about it: EASY INSTALLATION
What's not so great: SLOWS DOWN INTERNET SPEED
"Sure this item is easy to install (less that 5 minutes) but it is not worth the money. I have over 20 Mbps download speed when I connect to comcast modemn, but when I connected this router to my modemn my speed went down to less that 6 Mbps. Too slow for what I am paying for. My laptop barely get 1 Mbps and it consistently lose internet connection. Beware!"

What's not so great: Keep losing internet conncetion
"This is the worst computer product I have ever purchased. I had to go through installation twice to get it to work but could not set up a secured wireless connection. What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Everything
"I just bought this router and I tried installing and already am having problems. The product install was easy but it would not have a connection; the router would have a disabled status. I have windows XP and went under network connections and enabled the router. The next thing it would say is that it was acquiring network connection but it would never connect.
I wound up talking to tech support and they helped me connect to the router on my desktop by configuring it manually. The worst problems were with my laptop where the connection appeared and it would not connect to the router (it would be forever acquiring network connection)... Nothing seemed to work network cable or without...
While I was the phone with tech support, they admitted that there a lot of calls with similar issues. I believe that some of my issues is that my PC's are a few years old and the router firmware was designed to make people buy new hardware. From some of the reviews that I have read, this seems like an issue.
While tech support was someone helpful, the product is not acceptable to me. I am an engineer and tech savy and have debug many computer issues but I think it a waste if the user can not have the router automatically connect with dynamic IP addresses and have to do it manually. There is no reason to buy such a router..."
