AWESOME   07/06/2008
By HelenJ from Ohio

What's great about it: Graphics, Gameplay, Characters, cool powers

"If you love the anime/manga, you'll have a BLAST with this game. It's one of the best games I own for PlayStation2. Play all your favorite Characters; Naruto, Sasuke, AND even the obscure ones you may have an obsession over like Hinata, Shikamaru, Rock Lee, etc. Even if you're not familiar with the anime/manga, it's still the best entertainment you can get for its price. The graphics are amazing and the characters look cooler than ever!
Two thumbs up (and a third if I had one!!)"

Excellent sequel to a great franchise   04/28/2008
By KyuubiKhaos from Elmwood Park, NJ

What's great about it: Great character selection, great graphics for a PS2 game, stays true to the show's storyline, tons of good features
What's not so great: As a fan of the series, I can't say there are any.

"Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 is the latest in the line of Ultimate Ninja games for the PlayStation2. Like its predecessors, it features unique manga-style graphics and a gameplay style comparable to Super Smash Bros. This installment is up-to-date with the Naruto anime storyline in America as of now, and is technically the final installment of the Ultimate Ninja series, seeing as it ends at the same point where the original manga also ends, before it begins a new storyline taking place in the future of the series.
With 42 characters total, including many unlockable ones, there are a bunch of different techniques and events to relive from the anime and manga. There is "Hero's Story", where you can relive crucial battles and watch important cutscenes from straight out of the anime in possibly the best 3-D graphics a PS2 can muster up. In "Ultimate Contest", you can play as Naruto himself and explore major sections of the Hidden Leaf Village as you play through an RPG story exclusive to this game. You can also play using customized characters and level them up in this mode, to use in this mode as well as "VS Duel", the multiplayer mode of the game. Ultimate Contest also features a mission mode where Naruto can carry out ninja missions, usually battles with various conditions that must be met. At "Tanzaku Market", you can buy various items using "Ryo", the game's currency. You can earn Ryo through VS Duel, Hero's Story, and Ultimate Contest. The items you purchase can later be viewed at “Naruto’s House.”
VS Duel allows you to fight as any of the characters you’ve unlocked throughout the story modes. You can fight against a friend, or against a CPU character, which can be set on easy, normal, hard, or insane difficulty modes. Each character has two casual jutsu attacks, performed with various button combinations, as well as a secret jutsu technique, which can be activated anytime the player has the required amount of chakra, energy required to use special attacks. Unlike the previous games, where each character had three secret jutsu, characters now only have one, but the player can choose from a selection of secret jutsu to take into battle. Secret jutsu initiate an animated cutscene of the character performing the attack, while both players perform a button-mashing challenge to either power up your attack or weaken the opponents.
Overall, Ultimate Ninja 3 is one of those games that you can just keep picking up to play again & again. It has great graphics, a good soundtrack, a ton of characters to use, and reflects the anime and manga. It certainly belongs in any fighting or anime game collection."

Awesome game   03/30/2008
By animeviewer

What's great about it: Tons of characters and an overall great game
What's not so great: Graphics could be better

"With over 40 playable characters there is a wide array to choose from. The hero mode, which is the chronological order of the anime plot, isnt as lenghty as one would like. However, the rpg mode in which you can explore the world of naruto, limited to the village and tanzaku town really makes up for the plot mode. In the rpg mode you can jump on buildings, throw shuriken, and take up numerous amounts of missions in which one gets money and experience points. All of the playable characters have many jutsus to choose from that one customize. Unlike the previous naruto ultimate ninja game, there isnt three ultimate jutsu that one can use when in vs mode, there is only one ultimate jutsu and two casual jutsu. However, this one jutsu can be chosen from a pile of many jutsus for one character before the battle. Overall this is a great game in which i would recomend to all naruto fans."
