What's great about it: Detailed explanations on screen for features
What's not so great: More bulky than its former version
"I had the former version of this camera and absolutely loved it. In comparison, this current camera is bulkier, wider and thicker; a negative for me because I prefer compactness. Otherwise, I love the detailed explanations on the screens explaining the features. It takes a bit getting used to and I am still learning its features, but overall, I am satisfied with this camera. I love the feature where you can rotate the photo on the camera itself after you take a picture."

What's great about it: Colors and clarity are amazing; very easy to use.
What's not so great: A little too small for my big hands.
"I very highly recommend this camera. The pictures it takes are outstanding. I love the selection dial for various picture talking situations. This camera sees better than my own eyes do in low light. It has a Zeiss lens which is impressive. Images are very easily transferred to your PC. Get this camera. You will love it."

What's great about it: I love the color choices!
What's not so great: The pictures are very grainy and noisy! Does not do well in low light or tungstun light.
"I needed a new point and shoot, so I decided to try this one since the reviews were so good. I was very disappointed in the quality of my pictures ;( I had a Fuji camera before and the pictures from it way outdid the Sony 170. The pictures are very grainy with and without the flash.
I do love the color choices you have.
Sad to say mine will be going back to store!"

"I have always been a cannon camera person, but when my cannon was stolen I decided to try the Sony because the zoom for the size was unbeatable. I heard many people say that the sony menu's were not good, but I prefer it to the cannon. Simple and streamlined. I love my camera."

What's great about it: easy transition from our previous Sony Cybershot
What's not so great: None
"With the purchase came a discount offer if you registered online. I did and one of the products was an under water housing. We have a condo in Kona Hawaii and do a lot of snorkling. Now we have an under water camera and it also has a specific setting for underwater pictures. We are going there in October to try it out. Will add pictures later if I can."

Great camera overall

What's great about it: great pictures in automatic mode. many modes for different lighting and scenery. a nice big 5X lens. Great battery life.
What's not so great: some pictures in low light are a little grainy. the menu is a little cumbersome at first.
"Great camera! fairly slim, but with a big high quality lens. Takes great pictures in most situations and lighting. It has many auto programmed settings for portraits, landscape, and a fully automatic mode that works well. There is a user programmable setting with many variables to adjust like the strength of the flash for example. The setting for close objects works well with sharp focus from objects only a few inches away. The rechargeable battery lasts about a month of mostly weekend use with a lot of flash. The menu can be confusing at first, but after you get used to it it is pretty easy to use. The camera is ready pretty quickly after turning it on. It has little delay between depressing the shutter and taking the picture. I have had problems with blurry shots only i low light with no flash (expected). I am still very happy with this camera after having it 6 months."

"This Camera was a great buy.It has tons of features and i would recommend it to anyone!!!The only thing is that because of its 10.1mp it needs more space but is great!!!If you need a camera just like this one i suggest you look at the W150.It is exactly like this one except it has 8.1mp!!!"

"After much research and comparison I bought this camera because the number of positive customer reviews and the Sony reputation. The camera has lived up to it's name and what people say about it. I am in Iraq and I can say it takes awesome pictures in bright sunlight and at night. i haven't used it on movement pictures yet, but i took some video with it and it's awesome. I upgraded from the Cannon GS2 which is yes about 6 years old, but i am amazed by the number of options this camera has and all the neat things you can do with it! I would say for the money it's worth it and Best Buy has the best deal on it right now!"

What's great about it: clear crisp shots automatically

"Zoom on objects close at hand to gain more detail is just fine. Trying to pull in distant out door images in brite sun light has been known to blur. Overall I am satified with the camer compared to the older Kodac camera I have which is 6 years older. 3 Meg photos seem to be the norm for out put of the camera but if you have a good computer program the size can be reduced. Size of the camer is perfect for storing in your pocket while traveling."

What's not so great: honestly can't think of any!
"This camera has got to be one of the best investments i've made as far as keeping and making memories! it has a cool feature called smile detector which will actually wait until the person on camera is smiling to take a picture! it does multi shot1 it does face finder! i also has a great battery life! i have a 2 gig memory in it which will take about 500+ picture and i can fill and empty that card out about two times before i'm charging the battery. overall it's a great affortable camera from sony!!!"

"I was looking for a very small yet powerful camera - Well, this is it! It is loaded with features and performs well with the 10.1 Megapixel. The zoom is better than I expected. The only thing Sony forgot to do is include the user guide (which you can download from www.sony.com). It does come with an Instruction Guide to get you started, but it does not explain all the features and what it does. Highly recommended! But get the service contract as it does have lots of moving parts. And you can't beat the price for this gem. A+ from me!"

"I got this camera as a birthday present and proceded to take pictures of everything around. The camera is a joy to use. Picture quality was great even to an 8" x 10" blowup of a rose. No pixilation at all. LCD display is good sized and having an optical view finder is a real plus. Button functions are clearly described. Great camera for the money."

"I just got this Sony camera for our vacation, to replace 2 year old Sony camera, what a great purchase!!!! Desided based on reviews and my own continuos use of Sony cameras. Was very pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of this one, every time you change function, written message comes up on what it does, so don't have to refer to manual as much (actually I only looked in the manual once). Picture quality is EXCELLENT, smiley face is fun to play around with too. The only thing that I didn't try is video option, but almost sure it would be as great a pictures. Would definitely recommend this camera. You might want to get 2 or 4GB memory stick (I just got 4GB) to hold more pictures, since 10.1 megapixels require more memory."

"I recently bought this camera and it was worth every bit I spent. It has a very user-friendly interface. There are so many shooting options as well as plenty of in-camera editing options. The color is wonderful, and all of my pictures come out sharp. I can see every little detail. The organization in the menu is also very helpful and well laid-out. I really like that I can organize my pictures into folders or by date.
This is truly a superb camera, and I would recommend it to anyone."
