What's great about it: Stunning picture What's not so great: Speakers started rattling after 6 months normal use
"I have received alot of great comments about the picture quality from everyone who has seen it. It is still a plasma though, and suffers quite a bit from glare. The setup features are average, but not needed as the standard settings provide a great picture that toying with the settings just messes up. The speakers are a different story. The sound is average for a TV set and I use a separate sorround sound system for anything other than average viewing. Even with this minimum use, the speakers started cracking after about six months (it sounds like a woofer). To get this fixed, I have to go back to Samsung, as I did not purchase the extended warranty through Best Buy (Best Buy only covers the first 30 days after purchase without the extended warranty). Wish the sales rep had made me aware of that. In all fairness, I didn't buy it for the sound system, but it's still frustrating."

"This has been a great buy. The set itself is all we expected - no problems with picture. Features are all there, certainly all we want/need. The only downside is that cable HD programming triggers an intermittent sound problem - the sound just begins to stutter. When channel is flicked to another and back it stops, fixing itself. Analog and broadcast HD signals process perfectly. Go figure."

"This is a great buy. For the price there is no better TV out there. If you are making a decision between this one and an off brand, go with this one. I had the misfortune of purchasing a cheaper off brand HD TV a few years ago. I got 2 years interest free financing on it and not even 1 week after it was paid off it broke. Would have cost as much as a new tv to get it fixed so it got pitched into the trash. The Samsung is a great brand and I was surprised with the price. My choice was between this TV and the 40" Toshiba 1080p LCD. They were side by side at the store and this TV had better color "pop" and all around quality. I love how rich the colors are with a plasma when compared with an LCD. I will never purchase a LCD again! Great buy! I just wish the X-box 360 came with mine!!!!"

"I got this tv with the xbox360 package deal and think it is an awesome tv. I bought this for my mother and can not believe how nice it is. I have the Samsung LN52A650 LCD and I think this tv's picture is just as good as mine. This is a very good tv and getting it with a 360 at $899 is an incredible deal."

"well i exchanged my 40" toshiba 1080p tv for this TV and it was a great choice to make! the picture quality on this TV is brilliant and is way better than the 40" toshiba LCD 1080p hdtv.
the sound is a million times better than it is on the toshiba and its filtering is miles better also!
Calibration of the tv is pretty easy.
has just the right amount of hook ups.
Beautiful Design.
Easy to set up, it comes with the stand already assembled. (nice touch samsung).
Sound is awesome for a TV, ye of course getting a surround sound system would be best, but this sound will be more than good enough for alot of people.
Bottom line, you should get this TV if you are looking at spending no more than $1000, i got it for 899 which included a nice new 60 gig xbox 360.. (seriously cant beat that price)
this is my 3rd samsung HDTV purchase and i really do swear by samsung, that toshiba was awfull, get this instead ;)

Great depth of colors, stunning black levels and best in class viewing angles.
Sound is very rich and full even at lower levels.
If you're into connecting many different sources. me: 360, Wii, VHS, Computer, Antenna, DirecTv. This is a great option.
The design is elegant and inobtrusive.
Image quality and contrast stands up well even in my living room that has extensive ambient light.
HDMI and composite hookup on lt. side is very convenient.
I wish I could type in the names of the actual sources rather than label 360 as DVD and Wii as GAME..(Nit picking, I know)
Overall, if you're looking for a good quality 42" TV, plasma or lcd, for a great value, this is a great option.
I personally picked up this with an Xbox 360 premium for $900 + tax."

"I had originally bought a 37" LCD, but once I got it home - I didn't like it. I went to Best Buy to check out plasma vs LCD and there is no comparison. Plasma is the way to go. The picture is sharper, more colorful...absolutely gorgeous.
Set-up was so easy....you just lift it out of the box & plug it in. There is no putting together the base because it's already put together. Samsung knows how to do it right. Nothing cheap or shoddy on this tv.
I use it for xbox 360 and have no problems with any "burn-in". It makes game playing a lot of fun with such an awesome picture.
I don't know what people are talking about when they say the sound isn't good. It is good. Of course a surround system sounds better, but the sound on this tv is great.
I will stick with Plasma in the future. LCD looks cheap next to Plasma. Just check it out at the stores....you'll see!"

"Great value for a plasma tv. I love the glossy frame...it looks great over the fireplace. You really cant go wrong. The only negative is the remote. It's easy to change channels, but hitting your favorite button is a pain. Its not easy to hold (ie. it wants to slip out of your hands). Other than that, its an amazing value for a plasma."

"I have been searching for a flat screen for sometime and did alot of online research. After reading peoples reviews on this and other websites I decided to go with this tv SIGHT UN-SEEN. Bestbuy called the day before delivery with my two hour window. They arrived on time the next morning (7-9 am) knocked on the door at 7. They assured the tv had not been damage during delivery and were very courteous. the tv is a thing of beauty. it's very sleek. Plenty of inputs and outputs. I currently do not have cable and have "rabbit ears". when i scanned for HD channels they came in and the picture was PHENOMINAL even with just the rabbit ears. setting up the dvd player and wii was easy. The sound isn't bad at all. although eventually i will get a home theater system for the ultimate movie experience. however you can adjust and fine tune the sound anyway you like and there is different settings for cinema, sports, movie. I am very pleased with this TV and it was a great buy and for the price you can't beat it."

"Bought this TV about two weeks ago and I'm glad I chose this one over the $699 42" Dynex one that Best Buy offered. In the store I went to, they had both of these TV's side by side and I could easily tell which one I wanted. I actually had the intention of buying the Dynex based off of reading the reviews on this site but after seeing the difference with my own eyes, I had to take the Samsung.
Primarily, this TV is used mainly for playing video games on my Xbox 360 and the colors and graphics are fantastic. Not trying to put down on Dynex, but if you compare the contrast ratios on both TV's, you'd know why this one stands out much better too."
