"I bought this TV for the family for Christmas '08 and was worried about the picture in SD through my DirecTv after I read some reviews. To my delight the picture was great and now that I have HD it's even better. The sound is good but could be refined a bit but overall it was well worth the money I paid. I paired it up with a high quality surround soundbar and couldn't be happier."

What's not so great: Like so many others have said, the sound is not good

"Just got mine delivered about two hours ago, and I LOVE it. Also got the LG BD300 Blu Ray player and interestingly the sound is not bad at all coming off the blu ray player, but it is very weak coming off the cable box, even with HDMI connection. Sound seems to be a pretty common complaint on all tv's in this price range though, I think the assumption by the manufacturers is that you're going to have a home theater system, so I can't really complain. The picture is wonderful, the setup was a snap, the menu options are very intuitive, and you'll never run out of room to plug stuff in to the back of this TV. I have been researching TV's for 3 years waiting on the right "deal" to jump out at me, and I got a great deal on the package for this and the blu ray player, and have no buyer's remorse whatsoever. I paid $1249 for this tv, the blu ray player, and the Geek Squad installation, and consider it to be an absolute steal. Go buy this tv, you'll love it too!"

"bought this tv a couple of weeks ago and love it. no problems what so ever. pc input feature is awesome. i have a 47" monitor that is crystal clear and big!!! great picture quality to watch anything HD, but you cant blame the tv for non-HD shows, but they are still great. this tv is absolutley quite, even when turning on and off. but in short, any qualities about this tv, anything that it does or how it looks and performs is simply awesome. great purchase AND they gave me a free blue ray dvd player too! thanks best buy! i would make this purchase again if i had to ...and you should too!"

What's great about it: Picture (when hooked to a HD signal)
What's not so great: not good with 480i input signals

"This tv is awesome. I have it and it was hooked up to SD tv signal (480i) from a Dish network digital receiver and man did it look ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
BUT I upgraded to HDTV and OMG the difference is night and day. I'm telling you it was sooo bad i thought about returning it for a Samsung and boy I'm glad I didn't.
If you have a HD signal and want to get a really good 1080p LCD tv this is the TV for you!"

"Great TV. Great picture and great look. I've had the tv for about two months and have no problem at all. I have it hooked up to a home sound unit but I did notice that the sound on the TV was a little weak. I got the extended in home warranty. I wonder why Best Buy doesn't promote this unit more than they do. Great TV."

"This is my first tv purchase over 27". Man this is a nice tv. When I first started looking I would strictly look for Samsung and Sony because of everyone's claims that they are the best. I saw that Circuit City had this tv on sale for $1329 last week and had a lot of excellent customer ratings which is what I go by. I looked at the reviews on Best Buy for the same tv and it had 5 stars on 22 ratings. I decided to get this tv at best buy because they priced matched and that's a lot of rewards points also. To get a Sony or a Samsung this size I would have had to shell out a few hundred more. Forget that! If you want a lot of the extra features like, p.i.p., 120 hertz, and a contrast ratio higher than 15,000 to 1 than go ahead. I used that money I saved and bought the Pinnacle tv stand at Best Buy as well. I have a review of that also. Overall, these are the best purchase I have made in a long time and right on time for football. GO GIANTS!"

What's great about it: Best Picture I ever seen on a tv.
What's not so great: When not in HD you have to adjust to make it right.

"I have own the 47LG50 for about 2 weeks now. I think it has the best picture quality I ever seen on a tv when in HD. The different setting for (Sports) really do make a big difference when you select the right mode for what you are watching. This is my first HD tv and why the blank did I wait so long. It's amazing to watch Football in HD. You can even see the grass fields move in the wind! I also find the sound to be very good, I don't blast my tv. I shopped around for a while before buying this tv. I couldn't be happier with it. The only complaint is picture quality not in HD medium on older shows. You can find most programs in HD if you search for it. I give it 5 stars and you won't be sorry if you buy one too. PS if you have Comcast DVR you already have a HD source, no need to upgrade to HD service. You just have to hook it up right. Read manual or call Comcast if you need help."

"I love this TV. I bought it as a birthday gift to myself and because I also purchased a PS3 to play blu-rays. I was originally going to get a Samsung but decided on the LG after the side by side comparison. It offered everything the Samsung did and at a lower price! I thought my previous Sony was nice but after seeing the picture on this TV, I now know what I was missing. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone who wanted an upgrade in quality!!!!!

The only con I have been able to come up with so far is I cannot figure out how to put on the closed caption! But other than that I am 100% happy with my purchase!"

"This model is wonderful. In regular [old CRT TV] mode it gives the same size pic as a 36" flat screen.
In HD the 47" screen is fantastic. Makes watching a new experience.
Being able to play my music and view my pics using the USB port is a great feature.
I would recommend purchasing this TV, you will not be sorry.
I have found LG products to be of a superior quality and user friendly.
Don't wait, purchase it now while supplies last."

I FIND ON THIS SET BY GOING AND USEING THE SPORT AUDIO MODE MAKES THE SET SOUND GOOD AS LONG AS YOU GIVE IT MORE BASS AND TREBLE,BUT I NEVER BOUGHT A TV BECAUSE THE SOUND WASNT ALL THAT GREAT,BOUGHT FOR SIZE OF MONITOR AND PICTURE QUALITY. ALSO ALWAYS HAVE HAD A SURROUND SYSTEM TO HOOK IN TO. I SEEM TO LIKE THE STANDARD PICTURE MODE THE BEST ON THIS SET AND THE PRESET SPORT PICTURE MODE IS GOOD TOO. THE INTELL SENSOR AND VIVID PICTURE SEEM TO ADD TO MUCH COLOR AND CONTRAST ALL AROUND FOR ME IN PICTURE MODE. FOR THE PRICE I PAID AND THREE YEARS O PERCENT FINANCING, I DIDNT WAIT TO BUY THIS SET. SOLD MY OLD 37 INCH TWO DAYS BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS AND SO FAR COULDNT BE HAPPIER. JUST AS GOOD OF A SET AS THE SONY AND SAMSUNG FOR WAY LESS BUCKS. WOW."

"I just replaced a defective Westinghouse (second return) and did a lot of research before deciding on this one. I usually buy Sony electronics but the picture quality in the store sold me on this one.

The sound is very crisp and clear and comes right out into the room. Not muffled. The range is good, too. The lowest volume on the Westinghouse was far too loud.

Picture is also crisp and the colors are very true to life. My husband watches a lot of golf and is very impressed with the colors.

Settings are easy to do but the HDMI 1 and 2 are not side by side and that's a slight bother. The Westinghouse had the connections on the side in the back whe
