tv on init stand and ps3 and samsung 5.1

What's great about it: within five minutes of plugging it in it was ready to go
What's not so great: the refresh sometimes takes a while and doesnt actually operate at 24hz

"well I bought this tv for my room and well its a great price for what you get i have it hooked up to a ps3 and a samsung surround sound system which is a must because the tv speakers suck well lets just say you have to turn em all the way up to barely hear it but thats not what i bought this tv for i got it for the picture quality and well its great you can see every little detail and with the ps3 it upconverts even regular dvds one thing i did was called geeksquad to figure out how to make it run on 60hz all the time and well the picture quality improved"

It was nice while it lasted

What's great about it: Nice picture, while it lasts
What's not so great: picture in picture doesn't work.

"I bought an earlier version of this exact TV, we paid $3000+ for a TV that didn't even last 4 years. In that time we put in 4 bulbs, the first one was covered by warranty the rest we paid $150 each for. Last year the "light Engine" went bad - price to replace: $980 !!!! Now the color wheel is bad, price to replace: $100+

If you want a hole to throw money into, this is the tv for you. Samsung was great the first year, after that they sent a local tv repairer who cost us $100 just to walk in the door! For $3000+, or $899 as it is now priced, you expect more than 5 years of service from a TV - heck I have a 27"Magnavox tube tv downstairs I bought 22 years ago that still works great and never gave us a day of trouble! The tube tv seems to have a lot more wiring than the new ones, yet the new ones just don't last. I will never buy a samsung product again.

I attached a picture of my tv when it was new - it is now in the garage because it no longer works. I am looking for a new tv but after being ripped off so badly ($3000+ for a tv that only worked 4 years is a ripoff) I don't want to waste any more money on a new tv, so am back to watching on my 27" tube tv.

If you doubt my words, just do a google search on "Samsung light engine" and you'll get 345,000 results - most cries for help with broken samsung dlps or people offering to help for $1000."

What's great about it: Plenty of HDMI inputs, lighter than most LCD hdtvs, computer input
What's not so great: Taking care of that darn lamp!

"After you purchase a rear projection tv, be sure to purchase a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). The surge protector that you are probably using with your existing tv and media components will NOT protect you from the biggest threat to your tv lamp, sudden power outage. If your home experiences a black out or a blown fuse, you need to be able to turn off the tv safely. Using a good UPS will allow the tv to continue to run off the UPS' battery with more than enough time for you to safely power off your tv and "cool down the lamp". Everytime you power off the tv, the screen will go black but the internal lamp will need to cool down before shutting off. The lamp usually shuts off in about 15-30 seconds. Killing the power to the lamp and fan abruptly will significantly reduce the lifespan of your lamp. Replacement lamps usually cost between $150 and $175. Overall, this tv is a great value deal considering the size and digital features but you should be aware of the maintenance responsibilities for a rear projection tv that don't exist for a LCD HDTV."

What's great about it: The first year the picture was great...beautiful on a HD source.
What's not so great: Durability is absolutely terrible.

"I brought the previous model of this HDTV home a little under 2 years ago. I was pretty happy with it until after a year. The TV cut off constantly and I find that the lamp door was loose. Other than that annoying problem I was ok for a while. Then the white dots started...Then the black dots started...and now my HDTV looks like it has bad pixels all over it. I am very disappointed in Samsung and have vowed never to purchase another Samsung product. Samsung can take this television and..."

What's great about it: Good Picture quality but...
What's not so great: Picture can be 1/4" crooked and still be within Manufacture Specs.

"Be leary of a Samsung 50" DLP.

My biggest problem with this TV is that the picture was literally crooked (low on the left, high on the right) by as much as a 1/4 of an inch. You won't notice it when watching a normal full screen broadcast, but you will notice it when you watch a widescreen movie or look at the on-screen guide on your Satellite or Cable service. Apparently 1/4" is within Samsung specs and they will do nothing for you. It can be serviced, but it will not be perfectly straight. $1500 for a crooked picture? Just say NO!"

What's great about it: Right out of the box the television picture was superb
What's not so great: Built-in sound is nothing great. Then again -- that's not why I bought it.

"I purchased a first generation Samsung DLP, and it has worked flawlessly since I got it in 2002. I really don't understand why people don't like DLP sets. I find the picture much richer and deeper than those on an LCD. In fact, after watching a football game on a friends 60 inch LG set not too long ago, I longed for a new DLP.
And now I have one.
This set has all the right features, is an incredible bargain for the square inch, and the picture simply stunning. So what if you have to replace a light occasionally? In the 6 years, I've owned my first generation Samsung, I've replaced the light in the back once. ONCE. And it was easy to do.
I hope Samsung continues to manufacture DLPs, although it looks like the misperception in people's heads about them being "trouble" continues to persist, and may cause the sets to disappear. That would be terrible if that were to happen.
Take a look at the picture on this set at and then look at what the same money will buy you in terms of an LCD (ugh) or even a plasma. Simply no comparison."

What's not so great: Didn't work when I first turned it on.

"I bought the TV on a Saturday, it was delivered the next Friday, first available day. Right after it was delivered I turned it on and window came up on the screen saying, "Check fan no. 1." Then the TV shut off in less than 5 minutes. The fan did not work. I was on the phone with Samsung that day for almost an hour and the earliest they could have someone come out to fix it was Tuesday! I called Best Buy and the earliest they could have someone come out was the next day. Even though it was delivered in that morning, I could not get it fixed until the next day. Quickest and easiest solution was to take it back to Best Buy and get rid of a terrible product."

What's great about it: extremely easy setup, awesome picture from all angles, the depth really is ULTRA SLIM, and the sound quality is perfect

"If youre looking for an HDTV at a reasonable price with a crystal clear image and all the necessary hookups for all components then this is your tv. Also the ULTRA SLIM gives you the ability to put the tv in places that a normal projection tv wouldnt be able to fit"

What's great about it: Amazing qualtiy of picture and value as well as being as small as a flat screen tv.
What's not so great: No problems, great tv.

"I have had this TV for about a year. It's great with video games, movies, or HD channels. It's also great that it is a slim TV too. It's almost half the price of flat panels and looks about the same size. I wish there was a way to attach it to the wall like a flat panel but I just created a shelf instead and that worked too. I would recommend any DLP slim projection TV if you're looking to save money but not quality."

"Before I purchased this DLP tv I was watching a 36inch sony wega I purchased almost 5 years ago it was a 1080i hd tube set.so I was basically a dedicated sony customer until I saw this unit. This tv for the price I paid has a great picture and I got just in time because I have a blu ray player,comcast hd and I just added my nba league pass not to mention the nfl games looks good on this set also.I love it"

"This t.v. is the best H.D t.v. i have ever had. It is really thin and easy to use, and figure out.Every time i turn on this t.v. to watch a game or movie or to just watch anything it feels like im in it.The light contrast is amazing. i would recommend this t.v. to everyone i know."

"I EXPECTED A LITTLE LOSS IN CLARITY BECAUSE OF SIZE. IN FACT IT'S BETTER THEN EVER. LOCATION OF OUR SET CAN ONLY BE IN ONE PLACE AND THE OLD SET REFLECTED WINDOW SUNLIGHT SINCE ENTIRE OPPOSITE WALL IS GLASS. MY NEIGHBOR CAN'T GET OVER THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO REFLECTION WITH THIS MODEL.
THE SET BLENDED RIGHT IN TO OUR FAMILY ROOM.
BEST BUY'S DELIVERY, SET UP. AND OVERALL SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING. THEY MADE IT FUN TO BUY AND MOST IMPORTANT, KEPT THEIR PROMISES!"

What's great about it: this is a competitor to all 1080p tvs it has an excellent picture and when i hooked it up to my hd cable its great
What's not so great: the sound is ok but if you bought a nice tv you might as well buy a nice surround sound
