What's great about it: CPU
What's not so great: GPU
This has one of the fastest cpus in a laptop around only t9500 (2.6GHz) is faster. This has a good form, full key board (This is not a big advantage for most, as some may prefer bigger keys rather than cramming the number pad in).
Here is the disappointment though, the geforce 9500 G. This GPU has been stated as the DDR2 version of 9500 GS, IT IS NOT QUITE. its is a rebranded 9300 GPU. This one does not compete with the previous gen 8600 GT. it competes with th entry level 8400 gs.
Note* this gpu has only 16 stream processors instead of 32 of 9500 GS/8600GT. thats half!!.
This is still one of the fastest laptops around but not a good one for games.

What's great about it: almost everything
What's not so great: windows VISTA (yuck) and the weight
first of all, I'm not the type of person that's crazy about new electronic stuff, I don't have to get the newest like I have to change clothing every single day. :) I'm getting (actually got it delivered 2 days ago on thursday) this laptop so I don't have to worry about upgrading the laptop to keep up with "trend". the thing that really bothers me is the weight. I thought my husband's Dell Latitude C810 and his new MacBook Pro are heavy enough, but this thing is a lot heavier! I wonder if people is willing to lug this thing around in their notebook bag? I find this laptop to me more like a desktop replacement that sits happily in a desk.
also, Vista Home Premium is really a pain to use. I'm using XP Pro in 3 computers and I guess I've been way getting used to "no or little questions asked" in XP, unlike "we'll ask you a million times" in Vista. I mean, come on, uninstalling the 60-days trial of MS Office required about 10 clicks to get it done! what's up with that? double clicking on anything almost always resulting in a popup window asking me what to do. geez!
anyway, I find all the aspect of the computer to be great. CPU speed that's even faster than my 1 y.o. desktop, half hard drive space of my desktop, great display in LCD. the built in fingerprint thing (which I haven't figured out how to use yet) and the built-in camera is a big plus. I have yet to try the hardware capability (I have a HD camcorder), but I think I should be happy with this laptop. oh, and one thing I noticed, the exhaust thing on the left side of the laptop tends to get warm pretty quickly, quicker than the Dell that's always plopped on the couch.

What's great about it: everything ia s pro even the face recognition login
What's not so great: the display could be brighter.
Everything about this computer is great. I just installed a geme before writing this reviewand it did well. The only complaint from me would be the display brightness, even in low light it seams just a little dimmer than my Pro-Star laptop. And the touch pad is nice you get use to it real quick.
I have no regrets this computer runs great and packs a powerful punch for the price. Well worth it.

What's great about it: Fast cpu, fast video, great price, build quality
What's not so great: Display not quite HD quality but it will do...
I received this Asus mid April 2008 and it's a great buy for the price. No online or brick/mortar stores at the time had a 2.5Ghz cpu, 512mb video, with 200gb hdd and 2gb of ram for under $1500. At the time Apple MacBook Pro was the other option at over $500 more. But, I chose this Asus and havent regretted it yet.
The cpu is fast, plenty of hard drive space, and speedy video with the 512mb graphics card. I do photo/video so I bumped my memory to 4 gb afterwards. All 3rd party apps such as Adobe, Capture NX, and anything else I run on this laptop had a fast response time.
On some sites this laptop is in the "entertainment" category - but the display is not quite HD quality as it's not close to 1080i. But I can deal with it as the screen is very clean and bright.
One warning with the fancy touch pad - if you tap the upper right corner it will lock up and become music functions (play, rewind, stop, forward fast..etc..etc). Since this laptop was soooo easy to begin to use - I never read the manual. So I didnt realize I had to tap the upper right corner again to make the touch pad become a mouse again...
I have recommended this laptop to my friends as the one to buy. But it was difficult to do so because I wanted to keep this gem a secret...!
