"This is an amazingly simple way to add extra storage, using drives typically made to be housed internally inside a PC (or laptop). I purchased two of these docking stations (which were on sale). I noticed that one was USB only, and the other one had a USB and SATA interface; so they do have external SATA capability as well (something I didn't notice at the store).
Installation was simple...plug it into a power outlet, and plug the USB (or SATA cable) to an available USB (or SATA) port on your computer.
Then, insert a SATA disk into the dock, necessary software installs automatically (no additional software required...just the usual mass storage device drivers standard in XP and Vista), and you're all set. If you purchased a brand-new disk, you'll need to go into disk management, create a volume, and format.
Overall, this is a great device, and makes expansion unbelievably simple! Plus, purchasing internal disks is typically cheaper than an external one...and, with the simple docking/undocking capabilities with this device, you can swap disks out in a snap.
One hint: when you swap out disks...once you turn it off, make sure to wait about 5-10 seconds before actually undocking it. I removed one disk immediately after powering it down, and could still feel the disk spinning down...didn't cause any damage, however, but it's good to wait till the disk stops spinning, just to be safe."

What's great about it: Simple concept with a total impact. Easy machine prep. Easy storage..
What's not so great: Shortage of 'spare' SATA drives... but that won't be for long

"This is an awesome concept. I wish it also had an IDE bay--it'd make it a total product. YOu can prep drive in assembly line fashion. OR take drives if you need quick storage. Unlike External USBs you are limited to what is INSIDE the case. With this you just pop a drive in and fill it and add another--if you are looking for a large storage solution.

Off site back up storage is great. You leave the station and just take the drive away. that way you do not have to have 2 external drives to facilitate your off-site storage requirements.

There is also a certain element of security. With a regular USB external, a thief need only to plug it in. This makes some one make the extra effort (if they know how) to place it in a machine to read your drive."

What's great about it: Computer crash docked drive (external) and able to troubleshoot drive and fix drive
What's not so great: No electro statice bags too store hardrive; no ide/ata capabilities

"Overall best purchase i ever made when its on sale. Some people had asked if i coud retrieve pictures and songs from a crashed hardrive. Tried with much success. Its user friendly and no additional software installation, which makes it easy to use. Thx for this ingenious device."

What's great about it: Not only great for extra stowage but you can use it for maintence
What's not so great: can't think of any

"Not only can you use it for stowage but if you have a dead computer (desk top or laptop) and your drive is still good and full of data (Photos, Music, important docs etc) now you have a way to retrive all your data with out sending it out and paying more than the coast of this docking station. You can also test, format and clean old drives. I have a few enclosures I will not be using any more."

What's great about it: Easy to use. No problems.
What's not so great: None

"I use this device to copy the hard drive in my computers so I have a bootable drive copy of any computer in my house so if I ever lose a drive I can just swap in the copy and never look back. This device is awesome and for the money it is a no brainer. Highly recommended. Buy one today. I have two."

What's great about it: easy setup and.......easy swap of drives
What's not so great: are you kidding me....none

"I was able to reformat some hard drives I had just sitting around. I also found a program that allowed me to remove a GPT partition. It allowed me to do a low level reformat removing everything from the drive. Awewsome product from Thermaltake. Just wish Best Buy carried the eSata version of this product."
