The Best PS2 Trilogy Is Certainly SOILD!   07/15/2008
By DrPool03 from Brooklyn Park MN

What's great about it: $10 a game, action packed storylines, creative problem solving.
What's not so great: Lacks a couple features originally out, some may not like long cut scenes.

"This is an excellent deal, 3 full length games brand new for $30, $10 a game! I picked this up along with the MGS4 80GB PS3 bundle so I could have the entire series of MGS brand new. I never played it before and now, I must say, this series is right up there with Final Fantasy as one of the defining best! Each game has a great amount of depth and length, with many special features. There are a bariety of weapons and items to use but the key is being smart. Being unseen is the bst way to get through this game. The boss fights require thought and careful planning as well.

Some people might frown on the long cut scenes but I enjoy them. This series is like playing a game and watching a movie together. The story keeps you guessing and you always want to know what will happen next. I guess a couple special features are missing as well, like being able to play the original Metal Gear and it's sequel MG2: Solid Snake, but still, this is a wonderful deal all in all.

I highly recommend picking this up!"

By Mdb2013 from Columbus, OH

What's great about it: Everything you need to get started on the MGS series. Great way to prepare for MGS4.
What's not so great: You need to buy a Playstation 1 memory card in order to save in MGS1.

"I loved this collection because I wasn't sure whether I should start the MGS series, and this really helped me get into it. I haven't stopped playing for hours, and I'm still ready to go for many more! Very good buy, highly reccomended!"

Great to catch up on story   06/19/2008
By HorsemanConn from Honolulu, Hawaii

What's great about it: Great price, great games
What's not so great: No original metal gear or metal gear 2 (not solids)

"Its great that you dont have to go searching for all of them or remember who you lent it out to 5 years ago. If you need to get yourself ready for number 4 this is a quick, cheap, and fun way to do it.
Great controls, unforgetable story and a true classic."

Great Games   06/16/2008
By MIKEoftheDEAD24 from Naperville, IL

What's great about it: Three Classic Games
What's not so great: Need a PSONE memory card for Metal Gear Solid 1

"The Metal Gear Solid games are some of the best games in videogame history. I do not own a Playstation 3 but wanted to play these games with all the hype going on for Metal Gear 4. Playing these games I felt the feeling I had the first time I played them. Compared to todays standards these graphics were some of the greatest. I remember playing the 1st Metal Gear demo for playstation one and could not believe how it looked. Any fan of videogames should pick this up to play. For the younger people who did not play this as a kid also check it out."

Very Nice Collection!   05/21/2008
By XAvenger

What's great about it: All three MGS games in one package
What's not so great: Some cut scenes too long, minor control issues with the first game

"If you are a collector then this is a must have! In this aptly named collection you get MGS for PS1 and MGS 2 and 3 for PS2 at an affordable price (just try finding all three MGS games individually). This gives you the complete story of Solid Snake, a covert operative whose tale apparently comes to a conclusion in MGS 4.

I am a sci-fi fan and I love action games and the MGS series is a great series of stealth action games in a sci-fi setting. The object in all three games the idea is to enter without the enemy knowing you are there. A great challenge for the mind and your reflexes. And the action sequences always keep you on the edge of your seat. These are THE best espionage games ever made, bar none!

Playing the MGS series also shows how technology has progressed in the series life. I actually remember being impressed by the graphics in the first MGS, then you can see the leap in power from PS1 to PS2 in the next two games.

The only control problem is with MGS 1. The analog thumbsticks don't work since this game was made before Sony developed Dual Shock or SIXAXIS.

Can't wait for MGS 4!"

"You get the original Metal Gear for the PS1,and Metal Gear 2,and 3 for PS2.The only problem is that Metal Gear Solid 3 does not have a second disc in the package. But if you haven't played Metal Gear before this is a really good chance to catch up before Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots comes out for the PS3."

One of the greatest collections out there   04/29/2008
By bmstew

What's great about it: It's Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3...that's enough for me!
What's not so great: Some cutscenes can be a little lengthy, especially in MGS 2

"To prepare for the upcoming June release of Metal Gear Solid 4, Konami has released all three of its predecessors in one large, affordable collection. This is, simply put, probably the best bargain in all of gaming. These are three of the greatest games of all time, all in one box. Metal Gear Solid started this portion of the series way back in 1998 on the original PS1. It introduced great gameplay, a deep story, and amazing characters. Both 2 and 3 continued that trend in 2001 and 2004 respectively on the PS2. Snake Eater takes you away from the modern setting and puts you in Russian jungles during the Cold War, and it works to unbelievable effect. It remains, to this day, one of the most emotional and involving games I've ever played.

The only real complaint I could see with any of the games is that the cutscenes do get a little long at some points, especially in Sons of Liberty. However, that is really a minor gripe. If you're yet to experience the greatness of the Metal Gear games, you owe it to yourself as a fan of gaming to go out and get this. It may possibly be the best gaming purchase you ever make."

Tactical Espionage Action   04/24/2008
By Ashley890 from Michigan

What's great about it: Great Stealth Action Gameplay, Phenomenal Storyline and Voice Acting, Graphics, Gameplay
What's not so great: Some might find the cutscenes frequent and length

"Metal Gear Solid: Essential Collection is a great set for both die hard Metal Gear collectors or people that are new to the series. MGS:EC is a 3 game set containing Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Metal Gear Solid came out on the original Playstation back in 1998, and is easily an instant classic. MGS is what made the stealth action genre what it is today. You play as Solid Snake, a retired soldier a who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to eliminate the terrorist threat called FOXHOUND. Snake's mission is to save two hostages, the head of DARPA and the president of a major arms manufacturer and to prevent the terrorist from launching a nuclear strike. The game is filled with fun stealth-action gameplay, a terrific storyline, and some of the best voice acting in video games.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is the sequel of Metal Gear Solid and was originally released on the Playstation 2 back in 2001. Metal Gear Solid 2 improves on all of what made MGS such an amazing game. Great graphics, new weapons, and a great storyline that has a major twist!!!

Metal Gear Solid 3 takes place before the events of both MGS and MGS 2. Metal Gear Solid 3 takes place in the 1960s during the Cold War. The gameplay stays true to the first 2 titles, but the environments are definitely different. MGS 3 takes place out in the jungle. On your mission you will have to hunt for food to eat so you do not starve. There is also an array of camouflages you can select, and a cure system that you will use to heal Snake's cuts and broken bones. Just like the other games in the series, MGS3 has an amazing storyline and voice acting.

If you missed the Metal Gear Solid series or are just a die hard Metal Gear fan that wants to add this set to their collection, this is a must buy! Three great games for 30 bucks is a stellar deal! I highly recommend this set!!!"
